The Official requirements are as follows:
Windows Vistaâ„¢
2.0 Ghz Pentium 4/Celeron D -OR- Athlon 64/Sempron 64 CPU
1 GB RAM
7 GB Hard Drive Space
At least [nVidia 6200] or ATI x700

Now, these are the requirements to run the game on the very, very, very, very lowest settings with a considerable amount of lag. This is no joke. The game will not even run if you have anything lower, and for good reason. The system requirements are very similar to those of F.E.A.R., maybe a little higher.

The game has a wide selection of Resolutions, up to x4 AA and 3 graphical modes: Low, Medium, High.
- Low: Graphics will look like crap, except worse. Textures are 128x128 on this setting. Model Detail is extremely low on this setting (lower than on the xbox). No anisotropic filtering. Physics performance has been majorly cut.
- Medium: Graphics resemble the XBOX version. Textures are 256x256. Model Detail is XBOX quality. 4-8x anisotropic filtering. Physics slighly better than on the XBOX.
- High: Best setting. This is where you get your money's worth with H2V. Textures are 512x512 (Means you need a 512MB graphics card or be prepared for major cache thrashing - AKA lag). Models are very detailed. 16x anisotropic filtering. Physics are very reactive and nicely optimized.

IF YOU CAN HELP IT, DO NOT RUN THE GAME ON LOW. IT IS BETTER TO LOWER YOUR RESOLUTION THAN TO RUN IT ON LOW. IF YOU DON'T, EXPECT MAJOR GLITCHES, HORRIBLE PHYSICS, CRAP QUALITY ETC.

To run the game on medium settings and a 1024x768 Resolution @ 30 FPS (As in, better than complete ****), you will need:
x850 XT+
x1600+
6800+
Most cards in the 7*** series will work, with the exception of 7300GS, 7300LE and intergrated solutions (not sure if they make these for the 7 series or not).
Any 8 Series card.
--
2+ GB RAM ***** ESSENTIAL = 1 GB JUST DOES NOT CUT IT *****
---
Not essential, but a Core 2 would help the game run nicely.

Nothing but the best can run this game on Maxed settings (with AA). Consider:
- x1900 XT
- x1900 XTX
- x1950 XT
- x1950 XTX
- HD 2900 XT
- 7900 GT
- 7950 GT
- 7950 GX2
- 8600 GTS
- 8800 GTS
- 8800 GTX
- 8800 Ultra
- Rage 128 Pro

Stupid parents let their stupid children play games that are rated M when they should be playing Big Birds Spelling Adventures

Also the AR is actually good in CQB now and no longer a glorified baseball bat.

Basically, just follow the 3.0 and 5.0 requirements scale. ;)

Yes, but I am just trying to say that the minimal requirements are the minimal requirments. The absolute minimum. That is: to run the game with horrible graphics and some bad lag.

it's so funny. a 6800 should be running circles around this game with 100+ FPS.

This game is horribly optimized. Just think this, the original Halo on the PC had more customizable options in the video department.

I guess they assumed everyone who buys Halo 2 Vista will have a monster computer. To summarize, the game has graphic hog settings like Particles, Lighting, and Shadows either automatically on OR bundled into one of their few settings. Probably "Level of Detail".

Does this effect me? Not really since I have a high end GFX card, but it's disappointing to see many people not being to play this game at a stable framerate.

Don't get me started on them leaving button glitches on the PC version of this game......knowing they would be macro'd.

And whats more: Playing with the mouse and keyboard feels... awkward, or bogged down. I don't know what it is, but the controls seem horrible. As much as I wanted not to, I play with the 360 controller.

Umm... Rage 128 Pro? That's a card from the 90's

  • 05.21.2007 3:26 PM PDT

I have a moderate computer, I'll probably be running it on the low or medium settings. Whatever it takes to keep it running smooth.

All I want to know is: Who's the moron who decided that you can't choose individual preferences: you can only make big general changes on this low/medium/high (crap) system?

Classic case of poor porting, to be honest I wish they didn't even bother if they're not going to do it properly.

Is it possible to do a Lan game in H2V, or is it LIVE only multiplayer?

It's possible, although I'm a bit uncomfortable with the fact that "Multiplayer" is replaced by "Live" in the main menu.

  • 05.21.2007 4:44 PM PDT

Not as low as they ought to be. I mean, come on, how old is the Xbox system that they're porting this game from? Why do they choose to lock out a lot of people by using high system requirements as the bar of entry?

I'm disappointed. Maybe it has something to do with Live for Windows, maybe not. I don't see why the requirements need to be so high for a three year old game on a five year old system.

All the new features better make up for it.

I'm on the border of running it on full resolution with 4xAA on medium. Or small resolution and no AA on high. Choose for me because I have yet to see the game (and based on amazon's shipping I won't till next week <.<)

it's hard to believe my OC'd 7800 GT, Can't run 1680x1050 4xAA 8x AF at like 60fps.
I play BF2 at 80fps with max settings and that game is badly optimized.

Um.. An x1950 pro should run it on max all round right?

My specs:

OS: Windows Vista Home Premium

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo (2 cores) @ 2.13 GHz each

RAM: 2G

GFX/Vid Card: ATI Radeon x1950 Pro

Hard Drive: 500G x2

That should be able to play anygame great. But with this news/rumors. It seems maybe on medium settings at maybe 1280x960.
