Yeah, back in the day, candy bars were 5 cents. Things change, you can't get everything for free these days.

Okay, so I wasn't aware that was only the original XBL system that erased your name. It probably will erase your stats however.

The whole point with the fee is not wanting to pay for something I already had for free. It could be $1 or $1000. The point remains the same. I don't want to waste $78.8092 (that's the price I'm billed per year in the UK to be exact).

I see it leading to worst things. I mean, how can you condone locking me out of my own game until the end of the Halo 3 beta? Seriously. Is it a sign of what's to come?

You. Only. Need. The. Maps. To. Play. Some. Of. The. Matchmaking. Playlists.

Not all. Enjoy the ones that do not require it. And enjoy the social games.

So it's perfectly fine to lock me out of only most of the game, just not all of it right? Because I don't want to spend even more cash to play it?

I'll remind you...

My Internet. My Xbox. My TV. My Halo 2 copy. My original maps I paid for. My map pack I paid for. My XBL sub. Oh, but it's okay. It's only most of the matchmaking I'm locked out of!

Had it been a PC game, the publishers wouldn't even have the power to do this! With Live, MS do have the power and have proved they will use it.

That is a completly different subject. That is when the currency exchange rate was different from today's. This is where suddenly we're getting charged for something we had for free. We're not going to just say 'meh' and pay for these. We can actually think for ourselves.

Hey, what can we do about it? If you can afford a rig to play the games, you can afford to pay a fee online too.

Also, to further elaborate with what Program Log is saying--inflation and the standard cost of living. You'll read about it in high school.

No, I buy a rig to play games that I buy, not to buy the games and then, on top of that, pay a fee to continue to play them. I would expect a service that has always allured me to the PC for ages would continue on, considering all the other game developers thought it was a good idea as well. It's still not the same thing.

Well, IDK. But I would say you choices are as follows:
- Pay $4.
- Wait until June.

$4 is a lot of money these days...

Wait... Do we have to pay for H2V online multiplayer?

PPL that says it's cheap and such are idiots. If we all let thems do that, what will it be next? Will they charge us for all the words we use in the chat? Will they charge us for "online mic usage" ? Looking at what Live offers, it has nothing more than what I always had for free when I bought a game. oh and btw H2V sux

You can look at stuff like that but you shouldn't. You shouldn't have to start paying for something you had for free for many years... Not to mention you're playing on dedicated servers now (which the community for the most part pays for, with a few exceptions).

I see the same "Just pay" attitude over and over.

Why should I? Do you want me to tally the hundreds I've already paid to play Halo 2, or what?

It's not a damn MMORPG! Least an MMORPG isn't charging me to use someone else's private bandwidth.

14 cents a day. Look at it that way, does it seem that much? About 1 dollar a week? Sure, it's not good news having a fee, but it's not redicously expensive. Gaming has changed a lot. If you think about it, the features are worth the 50 dollars, even if they used to be free.

That game itself isn't worth $50. There's nothing but two new maps from the Xbox version, and the Xbox version only costs $20. You're actually paying $30 extra for two new maps (that is if we're not counting the Vista upgrade as well).

They aren't worth $50 actually ($75 here remember).

It's also about the power it gives MS to control the users and force them to buy content as we've already seen done with H2PC.

Gaming is important enough to me where I would spend that much a year. A little boy COULD afford to pay live with his weekly allowance.

It's been done with a lot of 360 titles to date too. These stupid things they come out with split the population.

This is very true as well.

I remember PGR2 (Project Gotham Racing 2). The fastest car available was one you had to pay extra for. What fun that was. Everyone who paid could use it, and those who didn't want to waste their money had to put up with losing.

You don't see that nonsense in PC games.

actually, if memory serves me right in Mechwarrior 4 there were a few packs out for sale. If bought, this would bring something like 4 new mechs for either Mechwarrior 4: Vengence or Mechwarrior 4: Mercs, and even to online. Mechwarrior after mechwarrior 2 became more like the console kiddy friendly mechassault anyway :'(

I'm not buying the game. I've only said that about a few dozen times. The fact that I was anticipating it to be worth money is why I complain, and I have a right to.

Also, stop with your childish remarks. Only little boys spend their money foolishly and blindly and don't question the product they buy.

That wasn't childish, I was just stating a fact.

Slaying noobs since 2007.

Ow my head. So remind me about what it is that we the highly mature, respectable, intelligent maw members are arguing about? From what I can gather this is called maw math: console<pc xbl<live this goes for graphics, multiplayer, controls, the whole shebang. Everything in this capitalistic society is going to have an up and a down. For instance, I want to play shadowrun with my friend online, oh noes! He doesn't have a pc. Live anywhere he can use his 360 and I can use my pc (i mean it's not like victory is going to depend which platform I'm on) but what a hidden fee?!? "Oh noes!!! WTF?!?"
