Get Marathon Here
Get Marathon 2 and Infinity Here

Such idiots.

You need 3dsMAX to make your own geometry, aka, custom objects.

Everything that is in Halo 2 is available to you through the map editor, no extra software required.

Stop -blam!-ing because Hired Gun didn't develop a free graphics editor for you.

The one who struggles against death is far stronger than the one who simply has no fear of it.

Okay, well than IF you can load Halo 2 architechture onto the map editor, I have just one question. How?
I'd LOVE for someone to PROVE me wrong on this.
So if you can make a Halo 2 map using only the tools they supplied, show me, explain it to me.
I'd be overjoyed to be proven wrong on this, I really would.
So go ahead, with proof, and not just saying "Your wrong, your wrong, your wrong." show me how stupid I am.
If you cannot do this however, you have no right to call me an idiot.

Yea, and you'd think they'd take a page out of Unreal Tournament's book and actually include the 3d editor with the game...

Meh, I'll rely on CMT if they do H2V maps for my entertainment.

Why are you guys complaining about a luxury?

I can't vouch for anyone else, but I personally bought Halo 2 Vista specifically for it's map making ability. Without it, it's no different than Halo 2 Xbox, in my opinion.

A luxury is usually something that people want. HEK2 has about more than 3/4 of its features locked. Where's the luxury in that?

HEK2 is not even CLOSE to being considered "luxury".

98% of all 3dsm export files Gmax can handle as well you just need to know how export plugins convert max files to files a game comprehends

Oh and I laugh at people who complain about tools

When bungie made myth there were no pc tools it was all mac only, Myth 2 only came with a Level editor and Tag editor you could not create your own units and that was sprites!

Remember what The game says in Heroic :"Back in my day We had two rocks and a stick; We had to share the stick" So Look on the bright side you can make modest level designs but if you want to make a mod within the game you will need the most common 3d program out there to do it.

Im just glad its not some crappy program no one ever uses like Software XSI

That's rediculous, to make your own custom maps you need 3ds Max, which in of itself is not bad, BUT it also costs $3,500+!!!!! That is just -blam!-ed up! Big time!

WTF!!?!?!?! y would u have to f.ucking pay any amount of money??

  • 05.23.2007 10:27 AM PDT

Slaying noobs since 2007.

There is always hex!

Dude, there are ways to get that modeling program for free, you just need to give the demo a try, or if you have Turbo CAD, you can make 3d models using that, and then there is some free modeling soft ware out there that can do the same thing as max or maya, and if you need a model file converter, there is one out there on the internet some where, I've found one once.

Did it ever occur to you that the target audience for this product might not be your average PC-user but someone who owns a business involving computers and uses 3D graphics applications?

By the way, stop bypassing the filters--it makes you look like a jackass. You could learn to use spell check and the shift key too.

Um? suck it up? no one said it would be free, and no one said you HAD to use 3dsmax. Just wait till someone writes an exporter for blender or something.

In response to Master Kim:
No, it's a video GAME. Not Microsoft Office, not Roxio, nor anything else like that.
It is a game, meant for a target audience of gamers. Not businesses, or offices, or Hospitals. This is meant to be played by the average consumer for thier enjoyment.

Read this thread again before you post. We're talking about 3DS Max, not Halo 2 Vista.

*Blinks* I should reread this thread? Erm...first post...yeah. ^^;
I thought you were referring to H2V in your previous post.
Yes your right, 3ds Max is obviously NOT for your average consumer.
Which is why I'm extremely annoyed that Bungie/Hired Gun/Microsoft, whoever, says you need it to run Halo 2 Vista Map Editor.

i managed to get 3DS max just fine... for free... off the internets...
