It always crashes in different spots. I've gotten as far as the start of cairo station, and it's crashed. To be honest I know I'm running a video card that's too low for the game. It's a crappy Radeon X300/550. But it runs Half Life 2 perfect, so god forbid it can't run a game that's 2 and a half years old.

I'm assumng everyone is going to say it's my video card, which I'm sure it is, but why will it let me play part of it and actually get into the game. If it was my video card wouldn't it not even let me in the game? So basically all I'm asking is if there is anything I could try before forking over the cash for a new video card. Thanks in advance.

Don't worry.

I've got the same error here. There are either two spots the game likes to crash at. First one is in the itroduction scene, when the camera cuts to show to covenant people who are sitting in the tribune. The second one is at Cairo Station, when I try to enter that kind of "train" at the very beginning with Johnson. It's an repeatable error, however, I managed onced to get passed this scene and it continued to work for another 10 minutes. Then it crashed again.

Updating the drivers of my Pc components didn't helpt at all. Im pretty sure it's a fault created by the game itself, since my version of vista hast just been installed a week or 2 ago and there were no major adjustments since then.

I already read about people having similar problems, It's basically a shame they release that kind of rather "unfinished" work.

My System:
Core2Du E6600 @ 2,5ghz
Vista Ultimate
2x1024 DDR2-RAM
Gainward 7900GT @ 512mbRam

Certainly it does.

There were a lot of buggy games out there and I played some of them. What did never occure, however, was a game that would ocasionally crash and even prevent you from playing. I mean, one can get along with major or minor gameplay flaws, but a bug that's even preventing you from playing it, that's totally unacceptable!

Halo1PC had about an year, or a year and a half to be glorified, and it was. But then the freakin' Godforsaken aimbot came out. But still, nonetheless, there aren't much aimbotters left in HPC now (probably 2-3 botters for every 50 players), and H1PC is still fun, and overall, awesome.

H2V: Before it officially comes out everywhere (<meaning that even before every possible countries and states get this game), it is already destroyed, and has phailed us in every possible way. Major glitches. NO OPTIONS AT ALL (for graphics configuration), BXR and all those button glitches have been ported on, etc. Not to mention Live Anywhere sucks total ass. One helluva -blam!-y port.

Once this game OFFICIALLY comes for every possible nook and crannies, I'll give it about a month for people to be excited about. Hell, maybe even 2 months. But I'm predicting that most of the loyal H1PC players, and overall, the REAL PC gamers will come back to H1PC. I wouldn't be surprised if H1PC still has more servers, players, etc. than H2V a year later.

You're right, compared to H1PC, this is nothing?!

Ah and by the way, im going to shoot the person that did or did not decide to limit the Field of View to 90 or less degrees in this game.

It's like you're running around with blinders, like you kinda lost one eye and the second one is already half gone.

You really get the imagination of playing Super Mario, there is no stereoscopic effect at all! grrrrrr

Thanks for the replies guys. At the least, it's good to know others are having this problem as well. Hopefully once more people get a hold of the game, MS will become aware of the problem and provide us with a patch or something. I read about an update that came out for it today, and luckily I was able to stay on the game long enough to download it, but it didn't do anything as for as the crashes go.

Feel free to try the "send error report" function that came with vista. I hardly doubt those are just send to the waste basket, though. ;D

BXR them for me! xD

And yeah, H1PC was a better port than this. In fact, H1PC was a decent port, besides the fact that some of the environment's graphics (clear camo, clear teleporter color, jackals only having one shield color, etc.) were "un-ported", and also besides the fact that H1PC was sort of a system whore, everything was pretty decent. Hell, the lag-lead "feature" was good too, that's what made H1PC unique (although it was unfair for 167+ pingers =P ).

Yeah, i also enjoyed H1PC. It was ported by Gearbox, what did you expect? They were experts. Shortly after they launched Brother in Arms and it was yet another hit. Now Microsoft gave this port to a "no name " studio.

Exactly. I can't believe people are STILL blaming Gearbox for a "bad port". A bad port? H1PC was an awesome port!!!

Now, about Hired Guns...wait, who are they again? That's right, they're a bunch of ammateur "nobodies", that can't even give a straight release date (not that I mind though, I'm not even getting H2V).

Well, although everybody complains about these crashes, I didn't have one yet... None, nothing, no crash, niet... Of course, on a 2 GB RAM with a geforce 8800 GTX power-house, you can't expect it to actually happen. I loved Halo 2 on Xbox and i'm liking this one on Vista as well. But yeah, who's Hired Guns again? They can't even launch a game properly... I was expecting it to come out today but I woke up having it three days earlier... WTF? Anyway, i'm enjoying the game and MP and having a great time...

Anyone experience crashes with an nVidia GeForce 8 series card or equivalent?

Anyone?

I will declare this game "failed" if this is so, otherwise, get new gfx cards, low end GeForce 8 series cards whoop the 7900.

Such silly people, the only issue I see with the game so far is the button glitches, oh noes! They will so ruin the game!

that's because it doesn't have to run 43 other processes and an operating system in the background.
As for the issue: no idea. I still have high hopes for H2V, If Hired Gun could release a few patches/fixes or something for these issues..... It might actually be saved.

A new video card for halo 2?

I mean, I'm usually not the person to complain about graphics, but the one halo 2 shows are more than 2 years old. There's a lack of detail textures, shaders and high quality bump maps, It's generally to blurry. I can run the game at 1600x1200 res. with antialiasing set to 2x and it still runs with an high amount of fps, even though I stillt have a Geforce 7 series video card.

There's no point in getting a new one for this game, we already got vista, now we should spend money a new vid card? haha

@Asian Knife: You mean, you also experienced crashes? Well that's fine, so more people flame at Bungie and Microsoft. I like that ;)

Like I said, it's a big system whore. A 2 year old Xbox-friendly game, can't even run smoothly on decent cards? Pathetic.

I have. And it's not even that I'm running the game with the settings too high, the damn thing crashes after the Bungie logo is displayed. I haven't been able to get into the menus to change anything. My whole OS crashes though, not just the game.

Does the 8 series have a compatablity issue? Can anyone with a GeForce 8 series run the game?

Hey,

I have Halo 2 crash repeatedly during the Oracle level. This started happening after I changed the level of Detail from High to Mid. I dont know why it is at randomized points on the level but it has become extremely annoying. I have a 7900 GeforceGo GS, which is powerful enough to play the game and 2 GB of RAM. This coupled with the level does not match with Live level error message has made the experience unplayable. If I leave the Level of Details at High the game does not crash (except for the Live error) but the frames are about 15-20 FPS, which is also unplayable. And the store will not give me a refund. I want to know any workarounds or fix Vista drivers and Halo 2 damnit.

This used to happen to me on UT on my old computer. Quite freeguently, It would just randomly crash while I was playing. Actualy, everything crashed on that computer. On my current computer, things only seem to crash when I'm procrastinating. I guesse it's a good thing. I guesse it depends on the computer (not the game).

What are the rest of your specs?

And to the rest: My point was not if your card could run the game according to raw specs, it's how compatible your card is with Vista.

Just bought the game from CC today (37.99 price, nice). Whats not nice, is that im getting this crash to desktop error which makes the single player unplayable. It never crashes in the same spot, it might crash when im in the menu adjusting a setting, or it might crash duing a cutscene within the first level. Because of this I can't get very far. To make things worse, when it crashes and I restart the game and try to continue from where I left off, I get a message saying my progress doesn't match whats stored on Live so I can't continue with Achievements. Restarting the level doesnt help.

I can play online fine with no crashes it seems, so I guess its just the menu and SP.

Im running the game with a C2D e6700, 8800GTS (640mb version) 4GB RAM, 2x250HDD on Vista at 1920x1200. I get a locked 60fps with vsync on (max settings) so I doubt its my hardware.

Oh and I had the "trial" version installed before (to test how well it would run so I could buy it) and that never once crashed on me. I was able to play the only level in the trial over and over again, never once having it crash to desktop. Now with the retail it'll crash anywhere from 2-15 minutes into the game.
