So i accidentally install halo 2 on the wrong hard drive... so i want to uninstall.

i open the program list, and find halo and click uninstall. Since i dont have a Halo 2 folder in the start bar for some reason this is the only way i can uninstall it.

But up comes a message that wont let me uninstall. "This program requires Windows Vista or MS server 2003"

So since i could not go anywhere, i just deleted the folder from the C drive. And then the program list let me remove the icon and info....

So i go to reinstall but it tells me Halo 2 is already installed.

So then i click play... And then it goes through the process of installing back on C drive!!!!

after it reinstalls, i get the "Halo 2 requires Vista" message again.

EDIT: Now i cant play it either, it gives me the message when i want to play.

any help would be great.

System Restore?

Let there be CHAOS!

Holy -blam!- on a stick! A ninja has graced us with his presence!

But anyways, I would say System Restore also, or you could just go all out and reformat....

Also, you could always go somewhere like... http://www.computerforums.org or http://www.tech-forums.net/pc to ask someone smart about how to delete Halo 2 from the registry.

i have no restore points. to pick that are past when halo 2 was installed.

GOD! why cant this just work!

  • 05.23.2007 2:31 AM PDT

Save anything you need on the harddrive you accidentally installed to, and reformat that son of a -blam!-.

Use CC cleaner, it will find it and automatically remove it for you if you do a reg check, etc.

so should i use CC cleaner after i have removed as much of the halo 2 files as possible?

why couldn;t Bungie have a decent uninstall in place

CC will find that the program is not installed and remove it from the regsitry so that it no longer appears to be installed.

Yeah, dude... you can play games that are on the "wrong" hard drive or partition. I have 6GB on my XP partition, I just install and run stuff off of my Vista partition, because it has 68GB of space, out of 73. So, it doesn't matter what drive they're on,, as long as you're in Vista.

Try following:
- right click on “startup.exe” in the directory the game is installed;
- Choose Properties;
- Go to Compatibility tab;
- Make sure that Compatibility mode is not set for this user and;
- Click “Show settings for all users” and make sure that Compatibility mode is not set for all users.
Hope, it'll work.

You also mentioned that you can't see Halo 2 in the start bar. You need to launch Game Explorer to see the game. Game Explorer can be found from Start bar.

I had the exact same problem. I Played the game fine until it got to the gravemind level and that same error came up. So I put the disc in, pressed enter, and some thing came up saying that the checkpoint didn't match the one on live, and to either continue without achievements or restart the level, so i went to continue and the game started but from a level heaps earlier in the game. To continue i had to start a new game from the gravemind level. Sure, that wasn't so hard, but it was annoying that the error come up to begin with. Has anyone else had this problem?

I don't think Micro$hit would know quality even if it jumped up and bit them on the ass.
