I was wondering if Bungie will eventually implement a private group search function after the BETA and Halo 3 launches are finished? A search function would make it easier for group leaders and new members to find Halo 3, contest, classifieds, allies, and other important threads.

What do you think about the idea? Would it help private groups and Bungie.net?

If you want to be a part of one of the greatest and most active communities in the seventh column, come here. You will thank me later.

There's already a search feature, I believe. There is a link saying "Find Existing Group" when you go to your "my groups" page, so you can find any online chapter that you want.

Unless, you meant something else.

I remember when I used this space to put cool looking links to my chapters back in the day. I don't even know why I'm using it now. Why are you even reading this? You must be interested in me. Still reading?

I'm thinking the same thing. Unlless you mean something else. Allies aren't exactly a feature to the Seventh Column, they are just articles that founders/admins make once a bond is announced between two chapters. Otherwise, the "Find Existing Group" link is what I use.

I meant having a search function inside the group forums. That way we could search for old threads or posts inside groups. Is that more clear?

In other words, have the public forums search function available to the groups as well.

Ah, I see what you mean.

Well, most groups have forums which are manageable enough (less than ten pages of forum posts), so they can find important threads that they want just by looking. It can be a bit tougher to do this in some of the larger, more active groups.

I think that it would be a great idea to have a private group search function. At this point, I rely more on just bookmarking threads to keep track of the important things.

Why not make an index thread, make it a sticky, and include links to every thread that is important?

I have done that, but my group has 50 pages of threads. The index thread is already pretty large, and I would like to quickly find threads from the group's past. This feature would also help groups like ODST Recon and MBT that have long histories and a lot of threads.

This might help in very large or older chapters who have many pages of threads but most chapter forums are managable and threads aren't very difficult to find. I see your point but it may claim pointless to some chapters.

I agree. That is why I want the feature, but I realise it can't be a top priority. It would also be a sign that Bungie is serious about improving the groups. I figure any improvements to groups won't happen until after Halo 3 is released. I am fine with having to wait for improvements.

Groups were re-opened but not complete. The web team saved groups from near perma delete. Then they opened them so we wouldn'y have to wait an extra month until after the Beta and Halo 3 release. After all that is over with, chapters should be a top priority and will be a lot user-friendly and...well...cool!

I agree that Bungie will make improvements after Halo 3 is released; however, I doubt they will ever be a top priority. If only 6 percent of B.net members use them, I don't think they will ever become an important priority. I just hope they add features that assist the admins of groups:

1. PM all members (limited number of uses per week/month)
2. Search feature within groups
3. Colored text for mods and admins in groups
4. Warning system for mods in groups (having an option other than blacklisting)
Etc . . .
4.

I woudn't say 6%. Maybe 15% but they are still a main contributer to B.net's activity/

5.8% of the bungie.net members are in at least one group. Achronos's words, not mine.

Well, that is probaly true and kind of hard to believe. Only about 10% of the members that are a part of B.net, post actively (maybe even less than 10%) So you have think, that 5.8% percent of members in chapters is about half of the people who post actively or from time to time on B.net.

That is an excellent point that Achronos has not discussed to my knowledge.

I agree. Let's not forget how many members made accounts during events such as the release of halo 2, the halo 3 announcement trailer, and the halo 3 beta. Many of these members made only a couple posts, and then never visited bungie.net again. A good percentage of the more experienced and active members of bungie.net are members of at least one chapter.

Exactly, I have never seen a member in B.net post and not be part of a chapter (except the new guys).
