The Rating Points (RP) Ranking system is based on military ranks and is the secondary measure which measures you up in matchmaking. The points given goes accordingly, and are given in both ranked and non-ranked matchmaking:

Win a match: 1 RP
Lose a match: 0 RP
Quit out of a match: -2 RP

Long story short, avoid quitting out of a match.

** NEW ** Also, to become an OFFICER (i.e. Lieutenant, Captain) you need a certain level in matchmaking, which is posted now.

*****There appears to be more axes on which the RP system is based upon. So far we have TWO (points and MM level). If you have any more conclusive ideas on other ways that they base the RP ranks, please please please help us out in the forums so we can discuss it!*****

First off, thanks to Bungie for doing a public Beta, its been a lot of fun so far. Now for questions/suggestions...

I think the only thing that stuck out to me for a complaint is: Why do we have to push a button for team speak in team games? Why can't it just be default that when you speak in a team game your team mates hear you? Then if you want to say something to EVERYONE playing, you could have the dpad activate that. Seams to be more effortless and logical this way.

Also, I like the fact that you removed homing from the rockets, but I think they should retain the rocket speed that they had. Was this a balancing issue for you guys? I feel removing the homing AND slowing the rocket speed may have been too much nerfing?

One last question, from playing multiplayer in many fps's including Halo 1 and Halo2 , I always found it frustrating that the melee attack was mapped to a face button in almost all FPS's that ive played. Its impossible to aim your melee attack because you have to move your thumb from the right analog to push the melee button. What would you guys think if melee was mapped to the right bumper instead of the reload function on that bumper? You dont need to aim when you reload anyway, right? So it would be good to have reload as a face button function. This seems to make more sense to me. I can't tell you how many times playing Halo 2 ive been frustrated because im meleeing with someone and we're both like retards with one arm who can't hit each other because we can't aim and melee hit at the same time.

Ok, here are the questions that appear to be popping up most often. And besides, anything on the intartubez needs a top ten list to make it official.

1) How much useful info (if any) have you gotten by releasing the beta to the public, and has any of it caused you to institute any substantial changes to gameplay, geometry, netcode or otherwise? In a similar vein, were there any surprises that came about from the beta? Player reactions that were unexpected? Unanticipated veto data?

2) Is there any possiblilty that beta testers will get a special gamerpic or a background on our namebar in the game, like bugie.net was in Halo 2?

3) Will Bungie consider implementing an open team chat feature to replace the current push to talk option?

4) What is the criteria for determining the MVP?

5) Why is there slayer in Team Skirmish Matchmaking?

6) Will there be additional customization options for your spartan and emblem in the final game?

7) Will there be fully customizable controls, perhaps down to the individual buttons?

8) A lot of people have noticed how hard it is to get a splatter nowadays, especially with the mongoose. What with it having no weapons, splatters are its only offensive weapon, and it is pretty much impossible to pull off... er, there's a question begging to be answered in there somewhere... I guess can we expect to see splatter damages tweaked?

9) Why the changes to the medals? (ie running riot, killing frenzy and killtacular)

10) Also, a lot of people are asking about RP, but that's already been answered at this website.

Why is the Question:Answer ratio of this thread appauling? lmao. and id like to kno y a lot of weapons seem to b overpowered, like the spikers, and y it takes more than 2 plasma grenades to kill anyone in a warthog. oh and ive often wondered about wat MrR3drum said about the beta testers keeping their ranks for when the final game comes out? or even an achievement worth 100 Gs or sumthin (lol) stating that we've played the beta, which it seems to me the achievements are part of a 360's account so u can prove to people wat uve accomplished

I've had some laggy games. One was so bad that I was jumping around the map like the lag in Halo 2(you know-you're here then there instead of normal fluid motion). In terms of networking feedback you are gathering behind the scenes, can you guys now notice this easier than in Halo 2 and, using that info, help the shipping game to have a better host selection system and/or tools to fight lag?

Do you only get feedback for matchmaking gametypes if one is actually vetoed by the majority(or not vetoed) or can and do you guys tally each veto vote regardless if it results in a gametype change?

Have we played enough games for you guys? Over 400,000 in a day. I think we little hamsters could do better.

and i have some pretty bad overscan on my HDTV, because like many HDTVs it doesn't do EXACTLY a 16:9 ratio, so there is some overscan. in the final version of the game, is it possible there can be a way to change the HUD and pull it in a bit more, toward the center of the screen? maybe even a few toggle options, just to move it 10, 15, 20 pixels or whatever. because when the HUD is unbent (like in third person view), the scoring bars are obscured.


I have the same problem. But this only happens to me when the camera switches to 3rd person.

-Since the rocket launcher no longer locks on to vehicles, why is it not more like the Halo 1 rocket launcher? The worst part is the auto-aim assist that guides the rocket to a person and not where it is shot. (Faster moving rockets would be nice too).

-Why is someone with active camoflauge still easy to see?

-Why does the mongoose stop right when it lands a jump? Really annoying.

-Will a pistol style weapon make it to the final version?

-Why don't stickies kill people when stuck to a warthot (barely kill).

-Will the sword be more balanced?

What's the cube root of 343?! I want more guilty spark! lol

Sucks to be you

Of all things you are prepping for with this beta, are you ready for the whiners that will fit one or more of the following categories:

1 - folks pissed that the beta ended and now have to wait months for the game to be released.
2 - folks that will play the full game and lament that the beta 'had it perfect' and are pissed that you tweaked some things.
3 - folks that will play the full game and lament that the beta 'had obvious problems' and are pissed that you neglected to tweak some things.
4 - folks that will never buy the game and be pissed that you don't simply leave the beta running forever and ever.
5 - folks that will now somehow judge the beta as a metric of how weak the graphics are and are going to be expecting the released game to be better than their mother wrapped in bacon.
6 - folks that are just generally pissy and love to whine about anything and everything.

A few things perplex me, but most of all... Why is it nearly impossible to splatter with the Warthog on Valhalla? I don't want to sound like a "noob", "nub" or "n00b" (one of which only seems to be pronounced right in german...)

But myself, like many others, are excellent drivers and have probably hit atleast 50 or more people so far at full speed, straight on and had no splatter. I can understand a few cases where due to lag the player "wasnt actually there" and such, but in 99% of the cases there was virtually no lag in the game, and I should have had plenty of splatters.

Understandably, sometimes splatters were too easy in Halo 2 (especially teammates for some reason? You could roll over a teammates toe at 1mph and he would die in Halo 2.)

But I think you've toned it down way too much, as it's nearly impossible to get a hog splatter. Granted, its easy to dodge a warthog, so it shouldnt be hard to get a splatter with one when you do hit someone...

(1) The Spike Grenade/ Suicide situation needs to be addressed.
(2) There have been a couple ocasions where my other team is still playing and I will be in the black "Uploading" Screen, yet my connection strength is certainly green bar.
(3) The Warthog Turret = WAY too powerful. You can die in just over 1 second if the gunner is accurate.
(4) There is already a way to "Get out of the map" on Valhalla. The base with the huge waterfall. Just head over to the corner with the rocks and crouch jump onto one just right and you can squeeze through the barrier. This allows you to walk underwater and get FAR away from the real map.
(5) The Carbine > The BR. The BR could use a little more auto-aim at only long distance to help balance it back out.
(6) Where is the Sword and the Magnum in this Beta? Also, what about the overshields?
(7) The Banshee is crap now. You canot aim down. Sure, the Banshee Bomb is back, but being unable to aim down makes it 10 times as hard to actually USE the Bomb. Either revert to a Halo 2 style Banshee, or weaken the Bomb and give it better manueverability.
(8) Are Spike Grenades supposed to stick to the shield doors on Snowbound or not??
(9) The delay on the human sniper now makes the Beam Rifle a more powerful since it can fire 2 lightning quick shots, or 3 slightly-slower shots.
(10) The Shotgun is balanced now with it's ammo and clip size, and the Brute Shot's 6-clip is nice, but the weapon doesn't do as much damage as it should.
(11) Rockets without homing is nicely balanced, but the rockets themselves don't do a lot of splash damage when you shoot a wall next to a person such as from Rocket Spawn on High Ground to Carbine left of turret. If you shoot the wall behind the person it almost certainly never kills them.
(12) Power Drainer deploys a little too quick, often making the person that dropped it a potential victim as well.
(13) Why can't our RP carry over to Halo 3? I understand levels would be stupid to carry over and saved films might not transfer right, but why not RP :-(

1.is lockout and midship comming back and will we get a sneak peak of one of them in the beta.
2.is the hand gun as powerful as halo 1.
3.will clans comback in halo 3 and the match list for the clan.
4.will we get any new maps to see before the beta comes out.
5. will we get Team hardcore before the beta is done.
6.will we get to keep are ranks when the full game launches in september.
7.will we get any chance to try out custom matches before the beta is done.

What did you factor in when deciding on the start date for the beta? I only ask this because I didn't know if it was an absolute coincidence that the beta opened May 16th, the same day that the #1 gaming school in the nation (The University of Texas at Austin) ended its spring semester.
