Halo IMO is not the best game because I enjoyed Halo 2 more :P. So Halo 2 is my most frav game
So, what you're saying is, what must factually be the best game ever is determined by whether or not it's your favorite game.

$50,000,000,000 REWARD!!!

Santa Claus must be stopped! He is a menace who is not only guilty of billions of counts of breaking in entering, but also runs an illegal sweatshop of midgets forced to work for no pay using stolen materials to make gifts that infringe on every company and manufacturer around the globe, causing world wide economic disasters. He is to be taken dead or alive!

Halo 3 Beta is better

I personally prefer Halo: CE over Halo 2. But all and all, I liked the Halo series with many other series and games.

Top series and games to me(No order)
-Sid Meier’s series
-Homeworld
-Company of Heroes
-Warcraft series
-Diablo series
-Westwood series (Played em’ and enjoyed them as a kid(Too bad that EA got their hands on it))
-Oregon Trail series (lol, my wife died from a snake bite again)
-Age of Empires series
-Original RollerCoaster Tycoon series (The no money thing in the second made it boring)
-Never Winter Nights (Get a lan going and you’ll know why I like it.)
-Harvest moon (For the SNES baby!)
-Super Mario RPG (Yet again for the SNES)
-Soul Caliber 2 and 3
-America’s Army
-Dead Rising (I know how to beat these zombies… It’s Jackson time! Link to dance sequence in thriller -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9PXSmhNC71E (They don’t make pop videos like they use to))

And I don’t want to go much further… I have too many favorites spread over too many systems. And I could go on…

And I can see what master Kim has been saying, there is no perfect game, and there is no best game ever, but there always favorites. That and I have a question, do you play alot of computer games?
Halo: CE is still one of my top ten favorites, as for the second, well, I’ll lightly touch base on that…

I see a lot more options to engage the enemy in the first, as for the second, it was a much more set path and smaller environment. For example, You could take a sniper rifle and rocket combo to take out the tank and troops. Or you could jump in the hog and ride around the troops to move on. Multiplayer was a lot better for the first, and I liked the campaign more for the first. It was a lot more basic, and simplistic. The AI in the second is better, and online is much easier then laning for me.

good players that know what the -blam!- theyre doing in halo 1 know why this game dominates and is the best game ever.

Halo 1 has aspects that make it UNIQUE even to halo 2 and 3. You control your own spawns and make chess moves with those spawns. You can be a better shot and win the games but you cant outsmart better tatics and you have to use those tatics EVERY MINTUE. camping is a tatic that cant be used the whole game or you suffer horrible deaths 10x. the reason why halo 1 is the best game ever is because it has a gameplay and flow to it that good players enjoy. if you are just starting out, you can still have fun but theres so much depth to the game and you can enjoy the game at a different level and its just completely a different game when youre good at it. no other fps can touch this game, this is why halo 2 sold out before anyone even had a chance to make reviews about it.
So, what you're saying is, Halo 2 only sold out because it was the sequel to Halo.

yes. were you there on nov 9? it sold out everywhere as the sequel to halo combat evolved. 3 patches later and the games still not in the same ballpark as halo 1in terms of skill and fun.

but....

there are aspects in halo 1's multiplayer that doesnt go noticed by causal players so I'm not too suprised if average or causal fans like halo 2 better, because not only is it easier to be good in halo 2 but theres ways to control the gameplay flow and most average players think that the only thing to learn in halo 1 is to use the pistol. the games waaaaay deeper than that and its still way deeper than halo 2 because people are still learning new spawn tatics and grenade tricks, theres like over 100 different grenade trick variations. halo 2.........sorry, but the average player probably likes smg start( i dont want to get into another debate over the smg start but theres a reason why bungie felt bad about making you kids start with the smg). if you enjoy team hardcore, thats cool but its still not the same as halo 1 in terms of skill and pace.

i just hope halo 3 will be good too, but so far i dont see any impressive TS maps because theres still a ton of camping tatics. good luck anyway, bungie but no way will you recapture the feeling of halo 1.

Most of you are forgetting Final Fantasy 7. That is my all time favourite game and I would consider it the best game ever made. Halo CE is amazing as well and so is Halo 2. San Andreas is also good. I think Spyro the dragon is a great game as well :p. So no I dont think Halo CE is the best game but it is definitely top 5 in my opinion. I'd give it a 9.3/10.

There is no factually best game ever. It is all opinion. A game may be the best-selling game, or the most played game, but there is no factual evidence of a game being the best. Some might say Pong is the greatest game of all time, because it was the first video game. Some would say Super Mario 64 because it was the first 3D game, but there is no surefire Best Game. It is all opinion.

First off, may I ask what you are smoking?

Secondly, Halo is far from the greatest game ever made. I shouldn't have to explain this, it just goes without saying that there are better games than Halo.

Thirdly, just because it is your favorite game and one which you have invested the most time in doesn't make it a great or the greatest title ever. People could say they love Gears of War, does that mean that the game is perfect simply because of its popularity and success? Of course not.

No game is perfect, but some games are more perfect than others. There are certainly better and more perfect games than Halo. If you honestly think Halo is the greatest game ever, you need to play more games, plain and simple.

I could go on and on, but I feel that I've made my point.

Kim I agree with you - for the most part. Homeworld is one of the best game of all time - never gets what it deserves for what it pioneered and how well it did it - not only that but it had amazing graphics and story to boot. I play it all the time.

Realize though, that for most of us - including you and me - games do more than just play. If it was just playing, and other elements, Half-Life 2 would win hands down. People will say otherwise because they want to sound unique but just because a game is popular doesn't make it bad. I can't remember if you played it on the xbox a lot, but that was when it was there in all of its glory.

Halo has something special for me, just like it seemed to have something special for the poster of this thread. It was the first shooter I ever really played - the first one I was excellent at. It made me new friends, gave me a skill, gave me something to do all summer, and gave me the glorious hobby of gaming. Damn it all, it was fun. The single player levels were repetitive and TL 34 gives me nightmares. But in my opinion it is the best console shooter ever made.
THE GAME wasn't all that made Halo great, although I still feel that Assault on the Control Room was the single best campaign level i've played. It was what it did for me, and a lot of other people, that leaves it as THE best in my opinion.

I really do think that Halo: Combat Evolved is the best game ever made. No other game has gotten me and my friends to go to somebody's house for a LAN party. No other game have I played for so long and actually stuck with. No other game has even came close to it, in my opinion.

Well, (for my own virtual safety) I will state the following disclaimer:

"All OPINIONS expressed by Ehsona do not necessarily represent those of Bungie, or any other entities known and unknown to Ehsona to include and underscore the aforementioned -Master Kim- and agreeing parties. Ehsona does not claim, or attest that Halo; Combat Evolved, Halo 2, or Halo 3 Beta, is wholly and completely THE best game ever for any other person or persons than Ehsona herself personally and solely. In conclusion Ehsona states that Halo CE and Halo 2 (having not played Halo 3 Beta but liked what she saw) is indeed for her person and her person only, THE single best game(s) over all that she has ever laid her hands on. Other games have pleased her, but none retain the replay-ability that she has individually found with the Halo series thus far. Thank you reading this document, and again, all opinions expressed by Ehsona are hers and intended for a mature adult audience only."

Thanks :)

Dood you've already participated in the internet -blam- fest by posting in this thread. Congratulations!

-Note- I think that some people have viewed me as a dumb little Halo fanboy in his lonely basement playing Halo all day long with no life or contact with any other games. Others have just "assumed" that I thought Halo being the greatest game ever automatically made me think it was perfect. I have said before, it is not. But I have also said before that I do not ONLY play Halo. I probably play it less than a couple other games, and once again, I have stated a few before. In fact, how about a top ten list, in no perticular order:

Halo: Combat Evolved
Counter Strike: Condition Zero
Day of Defeat
Mercenaries
Cabela's Hunting/Fishing Series
Tony Hawk: Pro Skater (The first one specifically, but I love the whole series)
Burnout Series
007 Goldeneye for N64
Grand Theft Auto II (Yes, before it was in 3D)
Deer Hunter (Countless hours spent hunting on a Windows 95)

I just do not want people thinking that I fanaticize over Halo constantly in my fanboy world of Haloishnessism. Because I don't. Seriously.

And again, it's all JUST OPINIONS!

Hopefully we all understand that - there's opinion everywhere in a topic like this. I'm sure somebody likes Zoo Tycoon.
and Testosterone Is probably at an all time low - we're all a bunch of teenagers or unshaved men arguing about a socially unacceptable hobby. For the record though - do you like Halo 1 or Halo 2 better?

I disagree Kim, it's not all a matter of perspective. Two people with opposing perspectives can both rate a game's merits equally. You can say with authority that some games are terrible. Fun may well be subjective but good design, good testing, technical achievement, original ideas and usability are all examples of things that can be measured and compared.

There is objectivity. It's just not worth wasting time over arguing which game is the best.

Perhaps, objectively, there is less an emphasis on the matter of perspective, but I still think that the way one views a game is still important.

I don't know Master Kim, you tell me :D. Well, for the first part of your question, I will take the blame for people thinking of me like that, because the way I worded the first post did make it sound that way. But I still never said it was perfect.

-Another Note- This has been my biggest post so far, and without some people [yes you, Master Kim] I don't think there would have been quite as much interest in the topic because some people caused a stir and others felt the need to reply to those people. So I would also like to thank you, some people.

That really isn't an easy answer for me. There are elements of each game, that I think are enjoyable. Halo CE is for me, more "whole" then Halo 2. Yet, Halo 2 did make some improvements I miss when I play Halo CE, most notably the Xbox Live enabling. I was really really disappointed by what they did to the pistol in Halo 2, I love the initial challenge of mastering it, and then the surprising devastation it could offer if you tamed it. I just loved the "POP" it made, and the precision it offered, like a mini-sniper rifle! I am aware that some felt the "realism" was lost when a mere pistol had that kind of scope down range, which I thought was odd considering what you could probably do to a pistol in the Halo universe, given how far advanced their technology is to ours. The grenades in Halo 2 are not as satisfying either. But the homing function in the rocket launcher is cool. I don't care for the replacement of the assault rifle with the battle rifle, the fact that it is "stuck" on a short burst just leaves you wide open for attack. The battle rifle, just is not the pistol. It is too sluggish, both in fire, control, and reloading. I also miss the more panoramic view of Halo CE, it seems cropped in Halo 2, and leaves you open to attack in your blind peripheral vision.
Then there is the campaign portions of both editions, which is obviously longer and more in depth in Halo CE (in my opinion, lol) but-- if you don't count the awful and sometimes boring repetition of the Library. I don't care for that level. It begins well enough, and if it was half as long, it might of worked, or even if it just had more dynamic scenery. Something. Anything. Especially when they want to corner you with gobs and gobs of Flood. Not very nice. How they expect me to pull that off on legendary just makes me think the game designers did that on purpose to make the game harder for those who beat it overnight and then exclaim-- "Hah Bungie! Your puny game was too easy and I beat it on the hardest difficulty in a mere day!" What about the rest of us? The 99.99% of us that don't eat breathe sleep and live Halo? I mean, you got to put food on the table, right? Or your trigger finger will simply shrivel off for lack of nourishment!

I could probably go on for a long time like this, dissecting all the finer points, but I will spare you all. And sorry for the length of this. But thanks for asking, how about you? (Sorry if I missed your response if you already have.)

This is all just my take on things, no one else has to adhere to my perspectives. Peace. :)
