That really isn't an easy answer for me. There are elements of each game, that I think are enjoyable. Halo CE is for me, more "whole" then Halo 2. Yet, Halo 2 did make some improvements I miss when I play Halo CE, most notably the Xbox Live enabling. I was really really disappointed by what they did to the pistol in Halo 2, I love the initial challenge of mastering it, and then the surprising devastation it could offer if you tamed it. I just loved the "POP" it made, and the precision it offered, like a mini-sniper rifle! I am aware that some felt the "realism" was lost when a mere pistol had that kind of scope down range, which I thought was odd considering what you could probably do to a pistol in the Halo universe, given how far advanced their technology is to ours. The grenades in Halo 2 are not as satisfying either. But the homing function in the rocket launcher is cool. I don't care for the replacement of the assault rifle with the battle rifle, the fact that it is "stuck" on a short burst just leaves you wide open for attack. The battle rifle, just is not the pistol. It is too sluggish, both in fire, control, and reloading. I also miss the more panoramic view of Halo CE, it seems cropped in Halo 2, and leaves you open to attack in your blind peripheral vision.
Then there is the campaign portions of both editions, which is obviously longer and more in depth in Halo CE (in my opinion, lol) but-- if you don't count the awful and sometimes boring repetition of the Library. I don't care for that level. It begins well enough, and if it was half as long, it might of worked, or even if it just had more dynamic scenery. Something. Anything. Especially when they want to corner you with gobs and gobs of Flood. Not very nice. How they expect me to pull that off on legendary just makes me think the game designers did that on purpose to make the game harder for those who beat it overnight and then exclaim-- "Hah Bungie! Your puny game was too easy and I beat it on the hardest difficulty in a mere day!" What about the rest of us? The 99.99% of us that don't eat breathe sleep and live Halo? I mean, you got to put food on the table, right? Or your trigger finger will simply shrivel off for lack of nourishment!
I could probably go on for a long time like this, dissecting all the finer points, but I will spare you all. And sorry for the length of this. But thanks for asking, how about you? (Sorry if I missed your response if you already have.)
This is all just my take on things, no one else has to adhere to my perspectives. Peace. :)
