vista the full version is about $150, the upgrade is about $100, vista capable means your computer had been checked and can run the Vista operating system

My specs are AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ @ 2.8Ghz, Nvidia 8800 GTX, and such. And I'm getting Bullet/Hitbox lag.

For all of you with lag, have you updated your graphics drivers to the latest version?

I have 4GB of RAM a GeForce 6100 with 553 MB of memory and AMD Athlon X2 3800+ (~2.0GHz). A 2.0 GHz CPU is the minumum requirement, so I wouldn't expect to be able to run everything perfectly, but I have turned down the resolution to 800 x 600, turned of Anti-Aliasing, turned the graphical detail to low, and turned off all flashy Vista features (Right-click My Computer -> Properties -> Advanced system settings -> Performance Settings... -> "Adjust for best perfomance" ----- this turns off Aero, DreamScene, etc.).

Still, Halo 2 is unplayable for me. The framerate is too poor. I'm hoping this is an issue with the game, not simply a lack of capability on the part of my hardware. I know my video card and CPU aren't the best, but I expected the game to be playable on the lowest settings.

BTW, I did not intall via Tray & Play. I installed the traditional way.

I called MS support (and I did get transferred to the specific MS Games support). They weren't really much help; I didn't expect them to have a solution anyways. I just wanted to have that issue stated in their support system. I thought if there really is something that needs to be fixed with the game, then perhaps enough people will email/call in with the same issues and Bungie/Microsoft Games will look into the issue and see if something needs to be fixed.

BTW, on a side note, I originally tried to submit a support ticket online, but the support site wouldn't recgonize my Product ID which I pulled straight from the About screen in Halo 2 Vista. The phone support guy couldn't validate my Product ID either.

BTW (again) I just read this recall business and the MS support guy made no mention of it. I was

Your graphics card is lacking. A lot.

You'd have been better off not getting 4GB RAM and investing in a better card.

Yes, I know. The graphics chip is built into my motherboard. I just got a cheap mobo+CPU combo deal because I needed one at the time. I'm waiting until the good really real quad-core processors come out before I get a sweet new motherboard and a good graphics card.

In the mean time, I would still expect to be able to play this on the lowest settings. If it can't be done, then so be it. I'm just trying to find out for sure if it really is just a lack of hardware capability, or if something's wrong with the game that needs to be patched.

You don't too hardcore of a motherboard to run a Quad-Core. My mobo can run a quad core. Don't try and be cheap and expect to run games. That GeForce 6100 will never run this game up to par, so stop trying it and just buy a card. Video cards that can run this game go for as low as $110. If you don't have that, you shouldn't have bought so much RAM. When are you ever going to need that much? Nothing's wrong with the game, you just have integrated graphics.

I get about 70-80 frames with mine with max settings but I do feel like the mouse is being held back. over all it feels better then halo 1 pc. But not as good as call of duty 2. The game play for halo 2 is just a little jittery
I have a 6600 and a 1900xtx and 2 gig and I use a g5 mouse. I will try it out on my friends computer to make sure its the game and not something with my pc or mouse

when people talk cpu clocks they mean P4's. and amd running at 2.0 is like a P4 runnning at 2.4 or so. It's your video card man... they sell 7300 integrated video now.

I'm running 2gb of ram, amd turion ml-44 at 2.4ghz, and a 7900 Go GS.
Like halo 1, this game at its current release date shouldn't be a resource hog for most computers (cnet reviews agrees).
Anyone with comperable specs as mine (like many of you) should be able to run the game perfectly fine with no lag at all.

I tried running the game at 1920x1200, my max res and it lags. I have tested it on all resolutions and all quality/aa settings and the lag does not change. It must be a problem/hang up in the game itself, not a compatibility problem with our systems.

Like someone else said, the game feels very untested, as if we're playing a beta release.

  • 05.29.2007 4:01 PM PDT

What it is.

^That's very similar to my problem. It doesn't matter what settings(res, detail, aa) i have it at, i get the same performance. This only leads me to believe that it's an issue with the game itself and not my system specs..I personally believe i can max this game fine. But i am receiving poor performance on many maps due to, what it seem, the game.
