I think that they are really pushing it for the real PC gamer. Most, if not all, are used to not having to pay for non-MMO games such as Counter-Strike, Battlefield 2, Call of Duty 2 etc. With this I think they are going to turn off real PC gamers as the majority of them will not want to pay for something that was free and was really good. I myself have a 360 and Gold so it doesn't matter to me, but if I didn't I probably wouldn't be buying this. What do you think?

XP when it was released, it was just like the Vista on everything. All new operating systems are like that. You just have to wait forthe companies and everyone just has to take some time and get used to.

just so you all know, their are two different types of live accounts, the silver membership and gold membership. The silver membership is free and the gold membership you have to pay for. THe silver account is for the most part the same as to what most pc gamers are used to. if you want more information about windows live accounts just go to www.gamesforwindows.com click the live icon enjoy.

Most of the PC issues posted here are the result of PEBKAC.

Remember people, part of that subscription pays for good dedicated servers. That's definitely something you want as a pc gamer, and if you don't, you are practically a fool.

I'd rather pay for WoW or something, but definitely not stuff I can already to for free with Xfire, Teamspeak, Vent, etc.

Monthly Fee for FPS + PC = Fail

Any btw, look at the Battlefield series. Everything from H2V + LIVE Gold = free.

You're not paying just for that, you're paying for cross platform play, that costs money to run, especially for servers, moderators, etc.

Battlefield lacks company provided dedis. You're not paying for voice chat and such, you're paying for future cross platform play and company provided dedicated servers. (you're looking at really low ping here)

And H2V doesn't have cross-platform play. We'll cross that bridge when we get to it (don't except it to hold either). There's tons of great BF dedicated servers out there running full 48/48 titan maps (probably the most grueling game out there right now) that still have low ping and no lag. I don't really know what you mean by "company provided" servers, EA has their own servers too. (if you mean something else please tell me.)

The real solution is simple. Do not freakin pay!

It is as simple as that get Silver, or get nothing. Quit complaining like little schoolchildren.

That was not a problem in Halo PC...people/clans bought their own dedicated servers from tons of hosting companies and that worked just fine. If they could pay their bills for monthly bandwidth and space, then it was fine....why should the casual gamer have to pay for others expenses? In a way, its kind of like that...

Enough with the vista bashing already! i've had it for several months now and other than a few minor compatability issues with some of my oldest games (very old games!) which i have sorted out with very little hassle there have been very few problems. Having gone back to XP now it just doesnt quite feel up to scratch. Vista is fast and efficient having had uneccesary flashy visuals disabled and startup programs and processes cleaned up and i am very satisfied with it. Contrary to many rumours flying, i have found vista to be quite up to scratch for gaming.

Back to the topic however - How can you expect them to run a service without having money to pay for it eh? Yes some people don't charge for the added online play but remember you're not just paying for online access for one game, but many games, hundreds in fact. Plus it is an absolute fraction of the cost of most MMORPGs and the like (although its difficult draw comparisons). Personally I'd rather pay for the online features of literally hudreds of games and pay a fraction of the fees associoated with many individual games.

No, I don't think anyone likes paying subscription fees but I am quite happy to so long as they continue to provide one of the greatest and most popular online services that exists to date, surely expansion onto the pc from the xbox can only be a good thing and will hopefully help to put pc gamers back into the loop when it comes to games which have as of recent been fairly console dominated.

Also in case any of you perhaps havn't realised if you have xbox live you automatically have live for pc too so for most people who enjoy gaming this isnt an added cost at all since they already have live on their xbox. Surely most of you have halo 2 with live on xbox anyway??? If the answer is no, then shame on you.

If not, its irrelevant anyway, just like everything in life its quite simple : IF YOU DONT LIKE IT, THEN DONT PAY FOR IT. And dont complain about it if you decide not to. Its a service and no one is forcing you to pay for it if you dont want to.

I for one would never pay for a live subscription. Many feel the same way.

Between the shoddy release and the cost of modding maps and such, the H2 online community is getting off to a sputter.

No offense, w3tw1lly, but what kind of trivial question is that? Do we like having to pay fifty bucks a year for something that isn't an MMORPG? Hell no. Games for Windows Live is like selling ice to Eskimoes.

Congrats, you've reached Level 11 in attribute ignorance!

On topic I have no intention on spending a dime towards Live, I get better services elsewhere for free.

You can't create a server and play in Halo 2 PC with silver. You can only create a dedicated server with silver. Halo 2 PC has worse modding tools. To mark a server as a favourite you have to have a gold account in Halo 2 PC.
