I just reinstalled HPC like 20 minutes ago. And Realized how bad It sounded, I went to the settings and realized it's off, and Greyed out.

I have it at 1.07. and my Sound Blaster X-Fi Platinum is updated with Vista 32bit drivers as of 05/21/07. Sooo... any idea what I could try.

I have the SB the only enabled sound device. Also unchecked "Allow exclusive program access to this device" or something like that. All of the 3 check boxes, but it still have hardware accelleration greyed out.

A warning to all X-Fi vista users:

Known issues: (For X-Fi drivers)

This driver does not support the following:
Decoding of Dolby® Digital and DTS™ signals
DVD-Audio
>>>DirectSound®-based EAX games<<<
6.1 speaker mode

The problem is directx 10 and the dx9 emulator for dx10, halo uses EAX sfx and sound, just a compatability issue untill a fixed driver is released.

This page gives you a pretty decent synopsis of why hardware acceleration and EAX sound effects no longer work under Vista. It was a pretty poor decision on MS to not include some manner of backwards compatibility. Soundblaster is working on a side-project that re-enables this functionality. You're in luck, because only X-Fi cards are supported at the moment.

Hardware acceleration is still in Vista, but only in the form of Open AL.

I used the ALchemy and it works great. I have the buffers at 4 and the duration at 5 and it sounds just like the original. I was actually about to post the ALchemy link before I read your posts.

Edit: this is my other account :)
