You know...it's funny how obssesive some gamers get about their K/D ratios...the K/D ratio for a lot of people is artificially inflated through custom games. In fact, there's a few out there who play by themselves with guest profiles and inflate their numbers even more. I'm sorry but I don't consider a high K/D as a mark of skill or a low K/D ratio as a sign of no skill. It's similar to the low self-esteem kids who circle-boost their levels up to 50, it doesn't mean they are any type of good, it's just a number and has no indication of your skill level. Just my 2 cents.

Sorry...Kills to Deaths ratio...how many kills you get before dying....number of deaths divided into number of kills.

If you want to be a part of one of the greatest and most active communities in the seventh column, come here. You will thank me later.

The only time kill to death ratio will really matter is during team slayer matches. If you think about it,a player who dies more than they kill is hurting their team's score.

In objective games, K/D ratio doesn't mean anything. Players can sacrifice themselves to create diversions, for example. K/D ratio doesn't matter in free for all, either, because there is no penalty for dying. Even in team slayer, a player with a low K/D ratio can help their team by getting power weapons.

Exactly dude....but I guarantee some other forum user will come in here and say "The only reason you say that is b/c you suck!"...LOL...ahh well...in the beginning I did...now I think I do decently well. And I still have fun with it. It's funny b/c one of my newer GTs: SGT GmanV2 has a K/D that's significantly higher than this one and I was all happy about it until I started thinking about it...K/D doesn't mean a thing after all as I stated above. So, anyway, I'm glad some people actually see through the hype like I do.

I like that I have a low kill to death ratio. It means I am soaking up the power weapons from the other team, and allowing my team mates to move in for the kill. I am a grunt, in the truest sense of the word.
It gets to the point where there is no point in playing, except to mock the 3 and 4 shot snipers by wasting their ammo time and time again. It seems that everytime I get an awesome ratio, the team loses.

I believe that all things being equal, the k/d ratio is indicative of skill depending on the game type. I'm sure you're right about some players "cooking the stats" though that's why I said "all things being equal".

nope...it means nothing. It all depends on a persons play style, even in Slayer matches. I made direct style descriptions along with how it affects the K/D ratio in my thread here:

K/D is just the one stat that it the closest to saying how good someone is at halo. if you are always the bomb running in objective games then maybe you will have many deaths but most of the time people are not.

its not a tell all stat but normally the people with the best K/D are the best killers. but you can never be sure about someone until you run around the corner and square off with them.

And in custom games, kill/death ratio doesnt count. It only counts in matchmade games anyways. And yes people with the best K/D ratio are the best killers, like myself.

I've been trying to improve my K/D ratio (it's 0.97 right now) but have realised that although it denotes a good player that doesn't mean the person can win a game. At least 60% of gametypes in matchmaking are objective based. It's very difficult to win an objective game as a team and still come out with a good K/D ratio.

To say that it means nothing is absurd and discredits your argument right away. In head to head and team slayer if you and/or your team doesn't have a positive k/d ratio...you don't win. That and the fact that you disagree with me is a dead give away that you are wrong.

To your credit though, I do understand that some strategic situations can render the stat meaningless.

As an addendum... a players K/D ratio should mean something to them...they know what they've been doing as far as particular types of matches go so their ratio can be an indicator to them as far as how well they are doing...but bragging or boasting about it or slagging off on other people about theirs is kinda like saying you breathe faster or slower than them...pointless.

You misunderstand me...which doesn't surprise me, I don't always come across clearly.

When I said it means nothing, I mean it means nothing as a personal stat. On a game by game basis (only in Slayer) it definately means something. But in an Objective game...it still means nothing, doesn't take killing to capture a flag or plant a bomb...how many of us have gone end to end with the bomb undetected and scored without firing a shot...probably everyone.

On a game by game basis (only in Slayer) it [k/d ratio] definately means something.

If "means something" = "indicative of skill" then we agree and the debate is over.

I concur with that point, but that's a whole different debate.
