So, I'm sure that many of you played Halo 1 on Xbox and were totally giddy to get it on the PC and actually play online with friends.

You went out, bought the game, loaded it up, set your controls...

Then you hopped onto a server, ran a warthog into another warthog...and you went flying...and then ended up driving normally 3 seconds later. And then you cried yourself to sleep because HaloPC had the worst netcode in gaming history.

I haven't picked up Vista or Halo 2 for PC because of this reason, I don't want to be monumentally disappointed again (HaloPC has been out for years now, and they never bothered to fix the crap netcode).

So, my question to y'all is...did they fix it for Halo 2? How does the online play compare to Halo 2 for Xbox?

Let there be CHAOS!

You know, they said they were going to fix up Halo 2's netcode a bit for PC, but it's EXACTLY the same. And if you've ever played Halo 2 Xbox then you that well... it's not that great. There isn't really any leading unless you are across the map from someone, but there are some annoying glitches:

1. You lunge at someone for a punch to the face but you miss somehow (and sometimes you even hear the melee sound but it doesn't register).
2. You throw a grenade a second before you die, and it explodes but doesn't hurt anyone, even if you tagged them. Same goes for needlers, you die, they explode, they don't die.
3. The shotgun works sometimes, sometimes it does nothing, hence it's nickname 'slotgun'.

I wouldn't call it terrible though.

Stupid parents let their stupid children play games that are rated M when they should be playing Big Birds Spelling Adventures

Also the AR is actually good in CQB now and no longer a glorified baseball bat.

I find that I have to lead most of the time when sniping, and sometimes when BRing, but otherwise there isn't much lead.

How about vehicle collisions? Does it act like it does in Halo 2 Xbox or does it screw up like in PC?

Logic how? You obviously never played Halo 1 Xbox vs Halo PC, Kim ;)

But, thank you posters above. I may actually consider getting it now...or just wait for Halo 3.

Yeah, except that Halo: Combat Evolved was never meant to be an online game--you don't see people playing it over Xbox Live. Halo 2, however, already had the netcode and was made for online play unlike the original.

Yeah, but I don't see any reason as to why we'd have the same netcode as we have had in the first game...

Yeah, I'm DAMN sure that the netcode is identical to the Xbox's. With semi-crappy netcode and BXR, I'm not even sure if they changed anything besides graphics, which didn't improve too much either (might just be me, damn Lost Planet demo). If it weren't for H2EK, I would've returned H2V by now...
