Do this: think of everything that you do: gaming, sports, school/job, and so forth. Put them in order of what you do best to what you do worst. Like, perhaps you are a mediocre Halo player, a good writer, and a lousy baseball player. Go ahead and add in as many nuances as you like: you may be really good at GoW, okay at Halo, and lousy at GRAW. Out of all of that, where would you put Halo? Call this your Halo Life Rank.
Personally, I only just started playing, and so Halo is way towards the bottom for me.
Now, rank yourself amongst all Halo players. Are you near the top? Somewhere in the middle? Or are you like me, way at the bottom? Call this your Halo Game Rank.
Finally compare the two. If your Life Rank is higher than your Game Rank (you player Halo better than other things you do, but not as well as other players) then any trash talk coming from you is worthless.
If your Life rank is significanly lower than your Game Rank, (you are way better at other things than Halo, but better at Halo than other people) then you can pretty much trash talk all you want, but I bet you don't-- you don't wast time on it.
If your Life Rank and your Game Rank are about the same, my guess is you don't trash talk much, since you have a more or less realistic grip on your place in the Halo universe.
This is just a theory, and personally, I find the trash talkers very entertaining-- so I am not complaining! I am enjoying my newb time, when just 5 kills in a 25 point FFA is a small victory for me.
Your thoughts are appreciated.
