Do this: think of everything that you do: gaming, sports, school/job, and so forth. Put them in order of what you do best to what you do worst. Like, perhaps you are a mediocre Halo player, a good writer, and a lousy baseball player. Go ahead and add in as many nuances as you like: you may be really good at GoW, okay at Halo, and lousy at GRAW. Out of all of that, where would you put Halo? Call this your Halo Life Rank.

Personally, I only just started playing, and so Halo is way towards the bottom for me.

Now, rank yourself amongst all Halo players. Are you near the top? Somewhere in the middle? Or are you like me, way at the bottom? Call this your Halo Game Rank.

Finally compare the two. If your Life Rank is higher than your Game Rank (you player Halo better than other things you do, but not as well as other players) then any trash talk coming from you is worthless.

If your Life rank is significanly lower than your Game Rank, (you are way better at other things than Halo, but better at Halo than other people) then you can pretty much trash talk all you want, but I bet you don't-- you don't wast time on it.

If your Life Rank and your Game Rank are about the same, my guess is you don't trash talk much, since you have a more or less realistic grip on your place in the Halo universe.

This is just a theory, and personally, I find the trash talkers very entertaining-- so I am not complaining! I am enjoying my newb time, when just 5 kills in a 25 point FFA is a small victory for me.

Your thoughts are appreciated.

Location: Outlaws' Summit.

I don't have a problem at all with "friendly" trash talk. Like, if I know someone pretty well and they're joking and say something like "Don't get out BR'ed too much Iceman!" ................(which happens a bit LOL jk........sorta) then I'll join in because it's a joke.

If it's someone I've never met, like in match making, and they say something like "Oh I beat down the sword guy," then that's ok too, I won't respond to that.

But when someone just goes on and ON like every little kill they get has to have a comment, then it's all gloves off LOL. Because chances are they aren't good and feel talking smack will 'get in our head' so they can win. Or maybe they think it makes them play better. Whatever the reason, most of the time these people lose badly, and get to hear it back in their face in the post game lobby.

I don't know why people smack talk. Just enjoy the game. I'll say "Good game" after every match, no matter how much we win or lose by. But when people talk smack to me, or my friends, I'll defend.

LOL sometimes the voice mic is both the best and worst part of this game....

half the fun is trash talk..although i do it in a friendly way, usually. but i find it frustrating if i don't have a mic and people are saying stuff and i can't say nothing...

thrash talking is only good when the other team does it before the game really starts first min then u win. thats the best

  • 05.24.2007 3:50 PM PDT

No matter what, it's always fun. If you win. So try harder random.

trash talking = sign of an idiot. whenever someone curses at me for being bad at halo, I laugh at them.

  • 05.24.2007 4:07 PM PDT

People who talk trash are the same people who could never win a fight in real life.

Just expanding on that a little: Guys (in particular) talk trash over video games because they don't have the balls to do it in real life. Hell, most of the guys who play Halo don't even have a life. Notice how they're the same guys who hit on girls over XBL. Coincidence? I doubt it. If some of the guys on XBL had a real life, they wouldn't feel the need to degrade others over XBL. Enough said.

There are some girls who are pretty bad at this too, but it's not as bad as it is for most of the guys.

Edit: Most people who play Halo don't really play sports, so that's pretty much why so many people get yelled at for doing poorly in a game. People have nothing to compete for in real life, so they rely on video games to suit their competitiveness.

Seattle FTW, that's where I was born. Anyway I would place a lot of the people that trashtalk in a catagory listed as "The As'sHoles of real life". You must remind yourself that a lot of people just like to be dic'ks

Carrots.

friendly or sarcastic trash talk is okay. It's natural human insticnt to get aggressive, and to trash talk in a friendly mood is fine with me.
Things like "good aim" when a shot is missed, or "Wow! shotgun to the face!" things like that are okay, because they wont keep bragging about it, they'll just continue on in the game. I myself trash talk abit, maybe twice every three games, only to blow off some steam, like if I was killed five times in a row and thn did something cool like kill the sword guy with an SMG.

However, once I played a game, a weird game, and one guy, CHIBBLE, was trash talk to the maximum. He wasn't particularly good, because after ONE kill, he would brag about it all the time and be astonished by the dead body. Him yelling "YYEAAAH!!1 YEAAAAAHHHH!!!!! YEAH!!! YEAH! YEAH! YEAH!!!!!! yyyyyeeEAAAAARRRRRRRRR!!!" while shooting he dead body, jumping over it and crouching over it. Every time.

Congrats. You have made me laugh very hard. Have a cookie.

And I enjoy it when other people trash-talk. Makes it all the more sweeter when they come into the postgame lobby on the bottom of the screen.

So if we do things better than play halo and we own at halo, we can trash talk...but don't.

And if we play halo the best in life, but suck at it compared to others, we are losers and can't trash talk?

Ok. Just trying to get your point because not only is it worthless, it's horribly written.

I don't think I can agree on this one. Most people who play halo do have a life. Not everybody is as addicted to it as I was. I mean, it's just something I don't really believe in. It can be true, I just prefer to think it's not. Maybe even just for believing in it.

Sorry for my double post. I was lost in thought.

Or, it could be that those people are very competitive at everything. A person could just have a competitive nature, and it comes out during both Halo and various sports activities.
