Alright. I get H2V, install it, works fine, play it for a day, go to sleep. Come back the next day, boot it up, couple seconds later.."Halo 2 (pc) has stopped working, searching for solution." I installed it as 'install and don't play', downloaded the patch manually, since the auto-downoad update didn't work for me, and yes, my computer meets the system requirements. Same issue with H2EK. ('Halo sapien has stopped working' or somethin'.) Anyone have any suggestions? I checked out H2vista.net already, asked there, and got minimal response, so I come to you, b.net users. Could it just be I have a defective disk, or can I fix it?

If it installed, and worked for a day, why would the disc suddenly stop working. Did u reinstall? If that dont work then return it. Where did u get it anyways?

Can't install.
When trying to install Halo 2 Vista, I get this message:
One of the installation steps failed. Do you want to retry?
redists\vcredist.msi:
Fatal error during installation.

Click retry to attempt to complete the failed step, or click cancel to cancel installation.

Rebooting, installing in safe mode, etc. nothing works.
Great job Microsoft/Bungie. Thanks for nothing.

Maybe it was a .ass file error.

Thinking of something witty to write here since 2004...

Yep Bungie's stuffed up yet another PC port [/golf clap]

Here you will need this to help you get your foot out of the back of your throat, looks llike its in there pretty deep. And what is that on your face? Egg?! *hands Kim a washcloth*

Nope, it isnt the disc at all if it installed properly. After the install you do not need the disc at all to play.

Copying the DVD to a folder on my desktop and obtaining a different version of the VB runtime distributable (vcredist.msi), then replacing the one in the folder allowed me to install.

Probably wasn't such a great idea to buy before release eh? I suspect there's more than just an ass in the early release copies and microsoft is using the partial nudity to ignore the rest of the problems.

It's on the shelf at Circuit City. I'd call that released.

You can still get it there right now. If MS was recalling the game, they'd have stopped it from being sold. All they're doing is putting a sticker on the boxes that have already been produced.

wait what?

EDIT: Oh yeah and one more thing. Whenever I load a new level in the game, I suddenly start spinning around, as if the mouse is pressed over to the far right of the screen. Which it's not. Help?

Do you have a joystick or gamepad connected? If so, try unplugging those.

MS is just adding a sticker to the front of all the boxes which have already been produced saying the game contains partial nudity, to avoid any GTA-type problems.

I just purchased the game today, about 6 hours ago. I'm also getting this frakking "vcredist.msi" error.
Has anyone managed to find a solution yet? Or at least a cause?

*edit*
After some further digging, I've narrowed it down a bit. As was mentioned above, the problem resides in the vcredist.msi installer contained on the DVD. This file installes the Visual C++ 8.0 runtime libraries on computers that do not have VC++ installed. I tried browsing to the installer directly and running it X:\redists\vcredist.msi

The exact error I recieved is
"Error 1935: An error occured during the installation of assembly
'Microsoft.VC80.ATL.type="Win32",version=" 8.0.50727.762",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b&quo t;,processorArchitecture="x86".'
Please refer to the help and yadda yadday yadda"

Following the suggestions of previous posts, I went straight to the MS website and downloaded the VC runtime installer from there.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=32bc 1bee-a3f9-4c13-9c99-220b62a191ee&displaylang=en
Exact same error. (side note: Windows Vista was NOT listed in the "Supported Operating Systems" section of the download page.)

I dont have Visual C 2005 installed on my computer, but a quick glance through my Program Files directory tells me that at least SOMETHIGN from the visual studio suite is installed, most likely put there by Microsoft Office 2007.

Thats about as far as Ive gotten so far. If I find out anything else, I'll post. Or, if Im just wasting my time because no one looks at this and gets any ideas, I shall just go cry in my beer.

Im getting the same "Halo 2 Vista is not responding." Message that everyone else seems to be getting. Or atleast the topic starter. Does anyone actually know WHY its crashing? When viewing the error report im getting something saying "These files may help you sort the problem" and it directs me to some Halo 2 temp files 0_o

So, please can somebody tell my what the hells going on. Ive shelled out £160 for Vista and got nothing but heartache, all my saved games lost, and a computer which no longer plays games......

Oh yeah and heres my specs, just incase ;)
Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4GHz
7900GTX 512mb BFG Tech
2GB DDR2 RAM
Vista Ultimate 5.2 rated system.

I had this on my second play.

Although it did say it had stopped responding, i just clicked on "wait..." after a second or two clicked on the Halo2 bar on the taskbar and the game jumped up with the Microsoft Game Studios logo.

Never happened since (although i did only get the game yesterday (thanks play.com - 1 day euro early))

I tried adding this as a new thread, but apparently I am not yet worthy to start threads.

Figured it out. It seems to be a permissions issue. Dont know exactly whats going on behind the scenes, but here is how I worked around it.

1: Log in as the Administrator. Not an account with Administrative priveleges, but the actual Administrator Account.
2: Browse to the redist/ folder on the CD. Manually run the vcredist.msi installer.
3: Reboot. (Yes, this is a required step. If you dont reboot, the Halo2 Installer will still fail, but with an error message stating you need to reboot)
4: Log in to your PC under your normal operating account
5: Install Halo2 normally.

I just received my copy of H2 Vista today, and threw in the disc...The auto play popped up, and I clicked play H2 now. About 3 minutes later, while it is trying to download my Live account, I get booted out, and the infamous "Halo 2 has stopped working" I waited for a solution, only to get the close program option.

I then try to uninstall the game, and do a full install before playing, no dice...~3 minutes later, the same message pops up. I uninstall, and restart my computer. I then reinstall before playing completely, I create a new profile instead of trying to download my Live account, and I get the same error...

WHAT IS HAPPENING!?!?

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.
