If anyone is still experiencing the vcredist issue, make sure there are no windows updates currently installing (check the taskbar in the bottom right). Wait for all updates to finish installing and reboot if necessary before installing the game.

If this doesn't help please reply.

I'm getting the same problem as well, the fix hasn't worked becuase I can't open vcredist, it says to contact the application vendor to verify if this is a valid windows installer package. This thread has died down recently, was there a solution I haven't found yet?

[Edit] Or have people just given up?

[Edit2] Dunno if this helps but I tried installing it on my toher computer and it works, but I want it on this computer. So it's nothing wrong with my file

finally got the problem solved guys, heres how i got passed that annoying vcredist error. 1. go to services. 2. set "Windows Modules Installer", "Windows Installer" and "Secondary Logon" to manual and start all three of those services on. then install Halo 2! worked for me, good luck! :)

Yea.
I keep getting the "you're too poor to buy this game and the 'required' OS to run it" error.

I got it to work as well... I'm a n00b here but not to Halo and not to PC's, this was upsetting me so I came looking for answers.

The services mentioned above didn't work for me... all of them were already running, but I went ahead and restarted all of them anyway and that didn't help.

We then tried to install this on a friend's machine and it worked fine, and seeing as the one file that wouldn't install (vcredist.msi) was on the Halo 2 DVD, we tried running just that application and it asked us for the C++ disk (lol).

After a few more attempts we decided to move the file from the disk onto the desktop and run it from there. It goes through a normal install and closes itself. I then tried to run the halo 2 setup again and it worked fine now that the vcredist file installed.

Try that and see if it works for you guys.

Hey, I was getting this same error trying to run h2 on xp. after 7 hours researching I found a link to the problem. Go to microsoft websight and download the " msicuu2.exe " http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/9/d/e9d80355-7ab4-45 b8-80e8-983a48d5e1bd/msicuu2.exe " file when extracted there should be 6 files in it
1 msicuu.exe
2 msicuu.msi
3 MsiZapA.exe
4 MsiZapU.exe
5 readme.txt
6 StartMsi.vbs

the MsiZapA.exe file is for win 95 ,98, 2000 the MsiZapU.exe is for xp ,vista ect, so just delete the MsiZapA.exe
file .then you must rename the MsiZapU.exe just drop the U MsiZap.exe, then install the msicuu.exe .this is a windows installer cleaner, once you have it installed run it and find any references to microsoft visual C++ redistributable and delete them, once these are all cleared the vcredist.msi error should no longer appear just follow the instructions per the halo2xp_v0.3 file and it should then work,it did for me. have fun
