Depends on where, and who you're playing.

Sums it up nicely.

I'd add more, but this arguement is such a moot point. There's one side arguing one thing, another side arguing another thing, then some people sitting back and laughing.

it isn't cheating.. mlg allows it so mm should definitely allow it. double shooting is hard to get the hang but it is awesome when you do. BXR's are just as sweet. Just because you cant do it you call it cheating.
I assure you that I can do it. I had to learn to be competitive in custom games where use is rampant. I never use it in matchmaking because Bungie and Microsoft (the people who graciously allow you to play matchmaking) say it is cheating. MLG is a completely seperate entity from Microsoft and Bungie. They did not make the game and they don't run the matchmaking system.

It is glitching. According to Bungie, glitching is cheating. Therefore, it is cheating. I don't understand why people are trying to debate this. Just because you enjoy doing it because you think it takes "skill" or because it makes you feel special is no reason to deny the stance of Bungie or Microsoft on its use.

I'd Rather Be A Smartass Than A Dumbass

After much careful consideration of evidence I do hereby proclaim this here thread useless.

For indeed the first thread entitled to pose a question as to the validity of such tricks as BXR and double shot was made over a year and a half ago.

After much deliberation bungie reached a consensus that they are cheating and will be valid for feedback. However I still believe it to be entirely legitimate to use these glitches. (If that is the word you so desire) In custom games and/or unranked gametypes. Please note that is not from bungie but merely the humble opinion of yours truly.

These Glitches are of course not auto detectable by any kind of system so you will not be autobanned for your despicable behaviour you shameless soul you. But if enough players leave feedback on you, then you will of course be banned. So such behaviour should not be maintained if you wish to remain an upright and long standing citizen of Matchmaking playlists.

Or of course you could ignore all my friendly advice and merely use these glitches to further your own ends and stroke your ego to your hearts content . However let it be known good sir that i for one will not tolerate you whinging here if/when you get banned for it. That is all I have to say on this matter

Crouching works wonders against BXR.

Or it can also put your face into the barrel of their gun..

Yes. XBL terms of Service says so, so did Bungie. You just have less of a chance of being banned since it can't be detected, only people can report you.

Keep in mind, I find button combos mostly dishonorable and cheap, it takes no skill, I performed a BXR that I never have before...did it first try. that means no practice=no skill. For RRX, it might take skill, but any well trained RX'r it becomes impossible to stop, no counter in sight. Kinda like modding, you need skill to do it, but it isn't fair in any way.

what do you mean there is no counter for it. its called crouching. if your gona bxr and kill someone, they're aiming for your head.....so if ur crouching theres no way in hell that your gona get hit. if u do, they're cheating.

i wana see this XBL terms of service and Bungie saying that button combos such as these are cheating. how can they when it is the game itself and noone has modified the game for that to happen? All this button combos, superjumps, they arent cheating, it was a screwup with not Bungie, but the company who created the maps. If it was such a big deal and was cheating, im sure that there would have been some kinda update allowing for this not too happen.

I do believe it was either Shiska or Achronos that stated these combos are ALL cheating if some gracious gentleman or indeed woman were to go trawling through their posts I'm sure it could be found to satisfy this good young sir.

Ok, so when did this thing where you cheat and not get banned get started?
They are button GLITCHES... Bungie has stated millions of times that GLITCHES that give you an unfair advantage in MM is CHEATING and you will get banned for it.

It seems like everyone who uses these glitches has the same arguments for why they are alright to use.

First I want to ask, how is a button combo with the BR a map problem? The button combos were Bungie's mistake, as it wasn't intended for the 'X' button to cancel the current animation. As for them patching it, the problem was too deep in the source to patch. Patching it would cause many more problems.

How can you say Bungie intended for the player to be able to cancel a melee, jerk the weapon back into place, then shoot resulting in an insta-kill? If you look at the character as he does it, you will see that it looks really glitchy. If it was intended, they would have added proper animations to make it look like a fluent motion.

Finally, Bungie said it is cheating in matchmaking, so it is. Deal with it.

This debate has gone on far too long for an answer that should be simple.

It is cheating, but most people do not report it. That's why it is still abundant in MM: most people (including me) don't consider it cheating.

Whether or not people consider it cheating is a different topic, however.

There's like 600 threads exactly like this... In MM, bungie considers it a manipulation of the game (glitch.) It is not a bannable offense because it can not be proven. Also, MLG does allow these glitches... HOWEVER, Bungie makes the rules for MM, NOT MLG! Get it?

No , its not cheating because all can do it.

  • 05.26.2007 4:09 PM PDT

Let me sum this up really fast: There are not cheating anywhere except for matchmaking. It does say somewhere that if the party leader considers it cheating then you can't do it in there party or some -blam!- like that. Bottom line is it is only cheating MM, feel free to do it in customs and MLG all you want.... and if you decide to be a "dishonorable" player and use it matchmaking like a normal person then your not gonna get banned anyway.

Getting banned for button combos is about as likely as seeing a Male homo-blam!- Canadian jew with herpes who is pregnant.

Well then everyone can mod, standby or bridge then?

If everyone, in real life, could get away with murder, does it still make it right?

It is of course cheating... it is used by cowards that need an advantage to win... at a videogame, how pathetic.

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

Bungie considers button glitches to be cheating, because they violate the xbox live ToU by allowing someone to manipulate the game code to their advantage. They are not intentional, they are a glitch. Being that the the people who own the system view these kinds of glitches as cheating, it can only be described as cheating. The decision has already been made, and none of our opinions will alter that fact.

It is cheating when used in MM.

MLG uses customs or LAN parties in order to have their competitions. Custom games and LAN parties are the people who are hosting its domain, so Bungie does not care what rules they use to compete. Its their system, so its their rules.

Button glitches, or "system manipulation" are defined as cheating according the the xbox Live ToU. The Bungie.net CoC and ToU forbids discussing or advocating cheating on these forums. Ergo, this thread is now locked.
