I really need a new computer, so I recently started looking at diffrent places as to where I can get or build a good comp to run recent games like HL2 and Doom 3 and future games like Morrowind IV. I looked at a Customized AlienWare but 2.3k seems like alot. Anyway, anyone have suggestions as to where and how to get a brand new comp capable of fufilling my needs? Thanks.

Heyyo,

I suggest you build it custom dude, then you can never go wrong, and is much cheaper than buying computers pre-built, and if you need help setting it up you can just ask a local computer shop to build it up for ya. It's much more cheaper if you order your computer parts from http://www.newegg.com than buying them retail in the USA, for in Canada I've found warehouses even cheaper. ;)

Just look at prices and benchmarks to suit your needs, here's what I suggest to aim for:

AMD Athlon64 3000+ (if too expensive then a AMD AthlonXP 3200+)

Asus motherboard (make sure it suits your CPU chip)

ATI Radeon 9800 PRO (If too expensive the 9600PRO or 9600XT are good too)

1GB of Generic PC3200 RAM

You can use the built in sound card, it should do ok, but if you can get this:
Creative Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS (Gamer is cool too)

Any 80GB HD, or use the ones you've already got.

For case same deal, for mouse/keyboard, monitor, speakers, etc. you can reuse those.

Also, if you're lucky and find a good computer shop, they do trade ins for computer parts they believe they can resell, I know one in my town, so you might find one yourself. =D

And then you'd have a really hardcore gaming rig, at least twice as powerful as mine. ;)

Don't forget to ground yourself ! ! ! heheheh
Thats probably the most important thing you should do when you finally put your rig all together
(if you want, go get a grounding strap)
