After trying to reinstall Halo 1, I have an annoying, nagging problem.. It simply reaches 92%, and gives me the following error message.. "Halo Setup encountered a problem while writing to the file C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo\maps\infinity.map. Make sure your hard disk is not full, and that the file is not in use." I've tried nearly everything I know to do, and nothing has worked.. Please, somebody give me a hand. I appologize for sticking up a help request, by the way, but Microsoft support is useless.

Make sure your hard drive isn't full. And go into the c hard drive microsoft games, halo, maps, delete all maps and then reinstall the game.

1) What is your current HD space? Make sure you have at least 1.2 to 2 gigs left on your hardrive.

2) Make sure EVERYTHING even REMOTELY related to halo.exe is out of your hardrive.

It doesn't have to be "unfull", it needs to have "enough" space left. You can have 30mb of space left, but that ain't enough for HaloPC to install on. How much space do you have left?

Sorry about that. 62.5 Gigs of free space, which is why I didn't clarify the exact amount. Tried deleting the files.. Doesn't work, gives me the same error, and freezes on the same map file, which copies when I checked.. I have no idea whats going on. (Tried deleting only maps, and everything, by the way.)

Whoa, lucky bastard. xD

I guess there's nothing wrong with the HD...try the second suggestion said by me and preap. Make sure every halo files are gone, (even the files that have been 92% installed). Then try reinstalling.

The second-in-command in my clan, fixed this not only by doing what I suggested, but by ignoring ALL error messages, and retrying over and over. I know it sounds frustrating, but it's the best I got for now. =/ Sorry.

So deleting everything and constantly retrying is my best bet?

It's a bit scratched, but not terribly so. It worked a year or so ago in the same state. I'll try it on my other computer to be sure and get back to you. Can't keep it on that PC, by the way, if your wondering why I don't just use it.

I manually extracted the missing files, and now it says the CD key is invalid.. I installed it again to be sure I typed it right, and it says the same thing.. =\ So is there a way to change it without reinstalling?

So uh.. Does that mean you don't know what to do to change the key? Reinstalling doesn't seem to work out.

Stop asking that annoying question, you are on the internet btw. Use google, or walmart.com.
