Hey,

After having the game for nearly a week I just noticed that there is bloom. Was bloom present in the original Xbox version, or was it added for the PC version? I know in some other games deactivating bloom can provide quite a large boost in the frame rate. While there is no ingame option to disable bloom, I was wondering if there may be some kind of "hack" or console/target line command to use to disable it. This may fix some frame rate problems others and myself are experiencing.

Thanks,
- FlapJack

Ah, look at the lonely people...

If I recall correctly, there was bloom in the Xbox version, but it would appear that it's more sophisticated in H2V. H2V = Teh Suck, anyway.

Bloom is a full screen effect applied to the game that makes brighter areas or objects glow...so like in Burial Grounds (did I get that name right?) where the ground is really bright you can see a slight glow around your gun. Or, in Lockout when looking at the mountains and surrounding areas you can see that it appears to glow. In some games, depending on the way it's coded and optimized, bloom can have a serious impact on your frame rate whether or not you have a relatively good GPU.

Halo 2 Vista is very poorly optimized, whereas games like Unreal Tournament 2004 (which still looks pretty good at high res) is so greatly optimized that I was able to run it on a laptop with an integrated Intel shared gfx chipset with (I think) 512MB of RAM. It can also run in software graphics mode. If more games were optimized to run well on sucky computers yet look amazing on moderately good computers like the Unreal games, than the world would be a much better place.

Look at the banner for this forum. It says Halo 1 & 2 for PC. Logic must dictate that if there is a second game, then there was a first, no?

Doesn't Halo1PC also have bloom? (sorry if I'm wrong). I mean, for ex. in BG, you go in the sunny spots, and your AR and Pistol glows, or rather shines with the luster it already has. Is this an example of "bloom"?
