Next, this is why H1PC is lacking.
- Horrible Netcode. (You mean I have to lead ALL my shots, melles, grenades, rockets, etc??!?)
Saying this acctually makes the game require "more skill" just means you like playing against people who don't know how\what lead is and win (cheap). Let me also point out how excellent (in comparison) the network netcode in the XBOX version was. Just something to think about.
Ok, yes the netcode sucks...but what can you do about it? Lead your shots. Even most new players learn this within the first few days of playing. It didnt take me long at all to figure out that I needed to lead my shots, and Halo PC was my first experience with online multiplayer gameplay.
- High Pings. (Yes, this also relates to the netcode, but is its own catagory)
I have a 600/250 Mbps FiOS connection, and the lowest ping I've EVER had was 100. In games like CS:S and F.E.A.R., I average about 40.
Why not try going to servers that are closer to you? I live in west coast USA, and the only servers I get 33 ping to are California based ones, and there arent quite alot of those. I deal with a 100-134 ping in almost every server I go to. I just got used to it.
- Poorly written shaders. (nVidia drivers can't render the invisibility shader for example)
Not only are the shaders written for SM 1.0 (making them look horrible), they are also incompatible with nVidia's driver set. Really, how hard was it to download both a copy of ATi RenderMonkey *AND* FX Composer (Both are complete and free)?
Either get a Radeon card that does support camos floating point alpha render target so you do get glassy camo, or just get used to spotting faded camo. I have a Radeon X1600 Pro and that works just fine for me.
- Textures are low res. (XBOX version texture resolution - When on high)
Don't you think that when porting an original XBOX game, you should increase the texture size?
Valid point there. On Xbox Halo, it was meant to be at 640x480 res...but with Halo PC at that same res it does look bland. I have my resolution set at 960x720 and that is perfect for me. Good framerate and the quality is just right. And you can also put the UseAnisotropicFilter command in Halo PCs config.txt file to further increase the detail of the maps.
And also, they did not remove backpack reloading. You can still do all the same glitches in Halo PC that you could do in Halo Xbox.....except for some, it requires some timing due to lag (like the crouch fall). As for the shaders for the flag pole, Assault Rifle and the Halo Ring in the main menu, there is a mod out there that mimics it quite well.
