What does activating Halo 2 do? I know it unlocks features, but does it like register the game to my computer? I'm wondering because I want to install the game on another computer later on and am worried whether this activation might prevent or stop that...

Activating insures that only one copy has been installed. If more than one computer uses the same product key, one of the Halo 2 multiplayer will not work, or even the whole game. If you don't activate it, the game my refuse to run after a period of time. Hope that helped.

So, would it be possible to transfer the "activation" to another computer? Because my primary gaming rig is being fixed now while I'm playing on a computer tat can barely handle minimum settings...

Yes you can install it on as many PC's as you want.

You can only login to Live or use multiplayer on 1 pc at a time.

It prevents multiple uses of the same cd key online simultaneously.

I have it on my laptop and my primary PC. I only use one at a time. Its nice I will be able to take H2V on the road with me.

If it's anything like Vista's activation (assuming its not oem), then you can transfer it to another computer. It will no longer run on the previous computer unless you transfer it back.
