I've not seen any threads about this, and I'm wondering if im the only one. When I got my 360 my halo 2 disk was in perfect condition, as it had been in my xbox all the time until I put it in my 360. Then I bought Crackdown. I took out my halo 2 game to find a circular ring was scratched into my disk about 3/4 of the way out. I looked at the disk tray and the only thing I could see that could have caused this was a small hole in the tray. I thought everything worked at first, but when I leave the main menu on and it goes to the ad thing, at some point it starts skipping and either freezes or gets through it. Campaign was just fine for a couple of levels, but then it just stopped working when you meet the first hunters. Am I the only one???

Something similar happened to me. The store gave me a new 360 and let me keep the hard drive. I bought a scratch repair kit for the disk and it worked fine after that (it wasn't Halo 2, though).

But the scratches I had were small and were all around the disk, not in one spot. What you're describing seems to be what you get when you rotate the console while it's turned on and a disk is spinning.

Either way, though, a hole in the tray wouldn't cause that. They disk doesn't sit in the tray when it's spinning, it's lifted out first.

Sdrawkcab Eman is right about the rotating the 360 while it's on. My friend did that and the same thing happened to his h2 disk....about 3/4 of the way out on the disk there is a ring all the way around.

Try this argument in a courtroom and see where you go:

"I don't consider theft a crime because it is easy to accomplish. Don't be hating on me judge just because you don't have the skill to do it!"

You must've moved your 360 when it was running, cause it happened to me. (Twice) That way.

Make sure you have it horizontal, too. Having it vertical is asking for replacing games, basically.

The circular ring in your disc is called laser burn. It is caused when the 360 is moved while the disc is spinning inside the drive. The disc actually rubs against the laser lens, scratching the ring into the disc. Unfortunately, these are very difficult to repair, even with commercial equipment. The best solution is simply to get another copy. Unfortunately, this has been a problem with 360's since they came out.

Unfortunately, this has been a problem with 360's since they came out. It's not actually a 360 problem. The same thing would happen if I tilted my computer with a disk spinning that fast in it.

True, but I meant that it's been a problem more for 360's than any other game system, mainly because they are easy to tip over if you stand them up.

The disks also spin alot faster than with older systems, unless you play an original Xbox game (but that's still fast enough to scratch). An audio CD spins much more slowly and it won't scratch from tipping the console.

well then that settles it! one time i knocked over my xbox while it was running, it didnt fall all the way down, it landed against my laundry basket but it was at a 45 degree angle. thats the only explenation because i've had mine vertical since I got it. I was thinking about the pros and cons of vertical vs horizontal and i think i'll try to get a sturdy table with lots of little holes in it or something to keep it horizontal without blocking the air suckinners at the bottom. then it wont fall over and it wont get hot and it wont melt and it wont click... btw it clicks when i play 360 games... this thing reminds me of the regular nintendo. i feel like i should be blowing in the disk tray or putting the disk in very gently

Its the hardship and tales of self sacrifice in life that makes us stronger people or, of course, an Overshield and freshly spawned Spartan Laser.

Yea, same thing happened to me. Just do what everyone else is saying: Dont move the 360 while it is playing.
