The graphics are greatly improved over the origional, who cares that their not up to current standards? What did you expect, DX10 graphics and a new physics engine? The game looks good, and since when was Halo good for it's graphics in any case?

Bad graphics + Bad framerates = crappy port.

...

So better graphics make it a crappy port? Because I don't see how your computer being a POS is the fault of the game...

Glitches? Shall I list the major glitches in any number of awesome PC games, or will you people shut up and enjoy the damn game, seeing as campaign is unaffected by these little glitches, and multiplayer isn't suffering at all.

Until everyone learns how to macro those glitches.

Remind me again how everyone having an equal ability to use a glitch results in an unbalancing and thus ruining, of multiplayer?

You make no sense.

I heard cases where it brought mid-high range PCs to their knees. :/

When not everybody knows how to exploit the glitches.

That's akin to saying, "Hey, no shields games are okay--after all, since everybody has no shields, everybody has an equal and fair chance of winning and thus that makes it a balanced gametype."

Not only are these glitches relatively easy to consistently pull off, not everybody knows about them, as I mentioned just before. It's rather unfair for the more casual gamers who just want to have fun have their experience tainted by others using exploits in the game that they are not aware of. What of those who want to play the game it was meant to be played?

OK OK EVERY ONE. watch this video it shows how much more valve has to offer than halo 2 vista.
halo2 vista is the same game as the one on the xbox. So WHY ARE YOU SPENDING ALL THAT MONEY TO BUY THE SAME GAME YOU ALREADY HAVE ON THE XBOX?!!! Oh what, just to get a little better graphics and better frame rate for an old game? Wait for halo 3 damn it. and for the pc STICK WITH SOURCE!!! I don't know why people are falling for it? but lately people have been good with their opinions instead of blurting the words out as a fanboy would do, they have been saying their own true opinions about halo 2 vista. Go ahead and check out my post in the flood about half life2 ep2 vs. halo2 vista.

Why are you angry?

Just because you don't want it dosne't mean you should try to force everyone else off of it.

not to mention that it has alot more to offe and not everyone who is getting it has an xbox.

Fifty dollars? For what, Half-Life 2? I could probably go onto Steam right now and buy the entire Half-Life 2 anthology at no more than $25.00.

PCs don't have to be as expensive as people think, anyway.

Slaying noobs since 2007.

Yeah, Kim is right, if one of my friends can make a good all around pc for only $600.00, then you can't be telling me that it's that hard to do, besides pc's do more for what they cost, unlike a giant grill/paper weight...........

First of all, this thread is probably not going to be popular.

Now, let's take a look at Halo 2 Vista. Not only do you have to upgrade to Vista to play it (which is $99 at the very least), you have to pay $50 for it. $50 for a mediocre port of a two and a half year old game. What kind of bull-blam!- is that? Not only that, but unless you get a Gold Windows Live account, you're basically playing a demo of Halo 2. Microsoft wants you to pay for stuff that is free in virtually every other PC FPS.

What was Microsoft thinking? Is this really a good way to show off how much they "care" about the PC gaming market, and to promote Windows Live? Microsoft once said that they really "care" about the PC's potential as a gaming platform. This clearly demonstrates the opposite.

Which leads me to my point. Boycott Halo 2 Vista. If you buy Halo 2 Vista, you're supporting this blatant rip-off that Microsoft is trying to pull. If Windows Live becomes popular, in the future, a lot of games might be like Halo 2 Vista. Buy higher quality games like Half-Life 2 or Far Cry, instead. Stick with Halo 1 PC if you must. Just don't support this bull-blam!-.

Edit: As I expected, this thread is going to have a lot of Halo 2 fanboys trying to justify Windows Live. Wake the -blam!- up.

Instead of telling everyone to boycott it, how about... you just don't buy it. and if people are going to agree with you, chances are they were already on that train of thought, so chances are, they weren't planning on getting it anyway.

You talk about how vista alone isn't worth getting. Plenty of people already have it (myself included, and according to MS, 40 million other people). It is a tremendous upgrade and would suggest it to anyone, Halo 2 regardless.

And a mediocre port? It has everything the xbox version had and then some. It boxes all the maps from the various downloads and discs into one package and gives us two completely new maps. And then it more than doubles the graphic output (480 to 1200 vertical lines is actually a 2.5x increase).

And finally, and perhaps more importantly, it gives those without consoles a chance to play this amazing game.

And even with all that said, I'm going to reiterate myself. If you think it's a waste of money and/or time, just don't buy it. Why should be have to hear about how Bungie and MS are ruining our lives by releasing a game on the PC when they really didn't have to?

And for the record, I am not a "Fanboy" as you will probably assume. I play plenty of games, most of which are not MS games, nor on MS consoles. I use Mac OS X, Vista and XP. I would hardly consider myself an MS/Bungie fanboy, I probably have less of a biased opinion than yourself, although I won't go so far as to say that I'm completely unbiased. Nobody is.

Gaming Systems:
Intel Core i7 720QM (4 cores, 8 threads)
4Gb DDR3-1333mhz
1Gb AMD Radeon HD 4650
Windows 7 64bit

Xbox 360 w/ 20Gb HDD (2008 edition) & XBL Gold.

OMG, OP you absolute noob! Ignore this guy everyone, he's copy and pasting this thread EVERYWHERE he can find! He's already posted the exact same thread over on GameFAQs and Gamespot! He's just flaming a game he doesn't want, big deal!

"To be really honest, I'm kinda buying Halo 2 Vista for the single player/story experience. I missed it on Xbox, so I'll try to catch it on Vista. I'm not concerned about Windows Live Gold, because I don't need it. So I refuse to boycott, an doing such a thing is stupid because it's not hurting anyone. No game is perfect, and I wish people would understand that."

Damn straight! I'm in exactly the same position, i never wanted a Crapbox so i never played this game. I really enjoyed the original Halo on PC and that wasn't a particularly amazing port. What these idiots don't seem to understand, is that just because they don't want/like this game or Vista, doesn't mean everyone else is going to think the exact same thing.

Also, for those of you insulting Half Life games and Valve, please....gimme a break. Half Life 2 was indeed one of the best First Person Shooters to ever be released on any platform. Hence the 94-97% ratings! The Half Life series as a whole, are very very good.

Fine your loss. I don't see any boycotts that have actually worked except for maybe 1 or 2. But businesses these days don't really care they are selling it because they have seen or had some interest in getting the product or product catagory.

Alright, as one of the few people in this thread who actually owns this game, I will give some of the pros and cons.

Pros
-Higher res textures
-Higher framerates
-Can jump right into MP games much faster than in Xbox version
-Can actually choose the games you want to play in MP, unlike matchmaking on Xbox
-Link up LIVE account and earn achievements
-Two new MP maps

Cons
-Must own Vista to play
-Must have LIVE subscription to play matchmaking and host games
-Same exact game as Xbox
-Glitches apparently still present (I personally have yet to see any exploitation of this in MP)
-Autoaim if using Xbox 360 controller

Basically, if you liked Halo 2 and want a slightly improved experience on PC, then definately get this. However if you aren't willing to spend the money on Vista, don't bother, you aren't missing much. Personally, I'm glad I made the investment into Vista and Halo 2. I think Vista is a great OS and will only get better with time.

To be quite honest, I think that $99 is a steal for a new OS. I bought the Home Premium edition for about $160 and absolutely do NOT regret it. In fact, I remember going to Best Buy a year or so ago and still seeing XP Professional upgrade disks going for around $100-$200. Hell, Microsoft Office 2007 costs MORE than Vista itself does. If any of you are debating on whether or not to get Vista for Halo 2, I'd go ahead and do it. Not only are you able to play a great game (I personally love Halo, along with any FPS's in general) but you are also future-proofing yourself for any new Vista-only software and games.

Before I go, I'd like to say one last thing. While I do love Halo 2 Vista, there are other great FPS's that far surpass it in gameplay and graphics. Does that mean that it should be continually bashed and even boycotted? No, of course not. While it does have it's faults, it still has it's own niche, it's own fanbase, as do other great games. To judge a game by simply comparing it to others is foolish. I like Halo for what it is. I also like FEAR, Call of Duty 2, Counter-Strike, and Half-Life 2 for what they are. If you want the game, get it and enjoy it. If you don't, then don't buy it. Everyone has their own opinion, they shouldn't be bashed for liking something that you may not.

Fixed:

Pros
-A couple higher res textures
-Can jump right into MP games much faster than in Xbox version
-Can actually choose the games you want to play in MP, unlike matchmaking on Xbox
-Link up LIVE account and earn achievements
-Two new MP maps
-Map editor
-Mouse/keyboard support

Cons
-Horrible optimization
-Must own Vista to play
-Must have LIVE subscription to host games, use voice chat, join peer-hosted servers, use Quickmatch (rofl?), and search for a custom match
-No matchmaking
-Same exact game as Xbox except with no clan support, ranks, matchmaking, and some other stuff
-Glitches still present
-Autoaim if using Xbox 360 controller
-There's a long list of bugs

The only reason I'm playing this game on PC is because of the m/kb and the server browser. Other than that, I prefer to play it on Xbox, and that's just sad.

Martin Luther King Jr. = black

OOPS, LOOKS LIKE I SLIPPED OUT A -blam!- RACIST REMARK.

I was trying to say something in a post, and clearing something up, so people who NOTICED that martin luther king boycotted several times for "black" rights wouldn't be offended I used his actions for a "comparison" or whatever you call my post. Do you really have to make me think I'm retarded or slow, just because YOU didn't think that was racist? Even if it doesn't, shouldn't I at least take my time to post a short "( )", so JUST IN CASE people do get offended, they know I didn't mean it in a bad way? You're always complaining I'm acting like a dick (although you are too), but when I try to act nice and in this case, non-racial, you talk like I said something extremely wrong.

Typical of you.

I haven't experienced ANY bugs whatsoever. And I don't see how there's horrible optimization. The game runs as smooth as butter on my rig. Even still, it can't possibly be as bad as Halo 1 was for PC. As much fun as it was it paled in comparison to the Xbox version, Gearbox did a horrible job porting it over to PC.

Bugs/glitches: (to name a few)
-You can't go into crouch mode while walking, this can be annoying.
-Sometimes I can see certain lighting effects through walls (like the plasma pistol charging up or the lights on the elite's armor).
-Chat is really messed up... if you are typing and you hit the same key that you used to activate the chat, it leaves chat mode.
-I've had the game crash on me a few times for no apparent reason.
-Many people have been having trouble loading campaign maps.
-Many have also had trouble with tray and play.
-All bugs/glitches from Halo 2 Xbox are still there: button comboing, superbouncing, etc.
-Etc.

Most of those are just minor problems, but when there's enough of them... it's very annoying.

As for poor optimization... I'm guesing you received your computer from God himself, or it's just amazing. My PC can run CS: Source, Doom 3, etc. with all video settings maxed out, on the highest resolution and I get a very decent framerate. Now on Halo 2 Vista, I'm running on medium details, 800x600 resolution and 4x anti-aliasing, and I get 30 frames or less plus random lag spikes. Also, turning off anti-aliasing doesn't help, and turning the details on low only increases my frames to maybe 40 a second. There's something very wrong there. And I'm not the only one that's been having framerate problems with this game either.

The only thing better about this port is the netcode (leading makes me want to puke), but the netcode was already in place, so Hired Gun, for the most part, had nothing to do with it; it's the same as it was on Xbox.
