Isnt that door the main gate on high ground?, they sound similar to me, but then again what do i know.
That's exactly what I thought, why would they show us a sound from the campaighn or something new if they could show us something cool from the beta
(how can you show a sound?)

Although I don't like Valhalla that much, I love listening to distant battle sounds, and when a Warthog or Mongoose is riding towards you, but you don't see it yet, that sounds cool too. On High Ground, whenever I spawn on the beach, I grab a BR and head to the latch on top of the bunker. I love shooting it or melee-ing it and watching it open, it sounds very cool, like you're infiltrating a base stealthily.

Guys that totally sounds like the Zanzibar Gate. Could we be listening to some hints... hmmmmmm......

The "clacking" sound of the turret in the distance is the one of the greatest sounds in videogame history. The first time I heard it I remember thinking, "holy crap, what the hell was that?' That sound is second only to the guys in the original Tenchu that sounded like they said "hee-haw". man, that was awsome.

nice update. good to hear yall've got Marty slaving away on our Halo 3. good. :P
haha, anyways. nice creaky door/gate sound. ill prolly hear that in the game, then be like "omg that sounds familiar..." then remember this about a year later. lol. nyways. Beta noices are pure awesome. the rocket lock-on sound in 2 was kool, but the sound of a missile pod locking on then firing still scares the living daylights out of me. the spike nade sounds are awesome too. keep up teh awesome work!

cool update... the sound in halo 3 beta are awesome..keep up the good work bungie..

  • 05.28.2007 9:46 PM PDT

hmmmm.... It sounded like a three pin locked door with the pins being about 1 and a half to 2 inches thick being turned open. The lock is old and is easily overturned so that it hits the inner locking mechanism, and then it slides open. but by the sound of the slide it is not that wide of a door, and it sounds like rock on rock instead of the screaching sound old metal would have. So it has to be a ston door with an intergrated locking metal system within it. ....and from what I had seen forerunners do not build their machines through nature like how earth does but within it...perhaps a door of the forerunners leading into a room where earths secret past of forerunner run ins? or a forerunner door leading into an epic battle makeing that suond, the sound that send shivers through your body as you replay the campaign level, because you know what is behind the door? We can only hope so.....

I cant wait to play the story mode of Halo 3, I am gunna finally buy a 360 when H3 comes out and I am going to play H1-H3 all in one weekend, hopefully in legendary mode if i feel capable.

Sounds are definitly one of my favorite parts of a game, my family hates how loud i play Halo sometimes but you cant play it turned down and have anywhere as much fun. even when your losing its still intensely fun if you have the audio cranked.

Or maybe it's the Master Chief's porta-potty door.

Halo is a universe?

For the people who're having problems listening to the sound: just right click and use save as to save file. This way you won't need the plugin. Btw great sound Bungie, but i'll probably start appreciating it more when i'm playing on Heroic or Normal.

Don't feed the monkey!!!!

The sound in the beta is absolutely amazing. Keep up the good work sound team.

Exalted is considered "the highest" because you can't get any bans or warnings of any kind for quite a long time, which is harder than just being a member for a long time.

interesting stuff...

Agreeably, as I see with most people who have responded to the article, Halo 3 sounds are excellent. I think the one thing that amazed me the most was the distant sound of the Mongoose in Vahalla. I honestly thought that it was the sound of people riding motorcycles on the highway that is along the other side of the river where I live. It wasn't until about 4 games later that I realized it was Halo 3 sound effects. Your probably wondering why I was unable to distinguish that from reality, but that kind of gives a hint to how well tuned my surround sound system is (hehe.)

I certainly agree that the crossover between the sounds of weapons, grenades, vehicles and other aspects over a distance is an excellent display of nex-gen. I'll look forward to making future comments like "Wow, sombody got -blammed- up" after a large muffled 'bang' is heard.

Yeah, I believe that is my second favorite. I always get cover when I hear; don't won't a "Puma" down my back.

i cannot stand the sound your com makes when talking to your partners but the rest of the sounds are awesome

I'm glad you mentioned that. The way comchat sounds come into the game aren't the same way as in game sounds. I think shouting inside the base should echo... I can't remember if comchat sounds are direction based either; meaning if they are channeled through 5.1 or just overlay as stereo.

If I look at it from a programming perspective, to "render" the audio into the game would require a separate audio module, that may cause some performance issues. So instead, they are probably just bypassing that and sending the audio right into the game. At least it's location base, so you can hear the other team discussing strategy inside their base.

(Or we could have a sound gun, like in Mission Impossible, haahah)

It's all fun and games until someone gets impaled with an energy sword.

One amazing sound is being assassinated by a spartan laser. You can hear their neck crunch.

  • 05.29.2007 10:04 AM PDT

i agree, the sounds are awesome and more life-like. i feel like i'm right there in the battle. the sounds of the weapons from afar is also stupendous!

the battle rifle, the sniper rifle, even the turret on the warthog, sound great in the distance - like a real battlefield. having been around weapons being shot and ammunition flying past my head, this is very realistc.

if i could add some advice as to the music in halo 3 during the campaign. there's this one part in halo2 that just kicks butt: both because of the action and the music. it's one of the last levels you play as master chief, where you're running though the covenant ship. near the end of the level, you enter a large circular room where elites and hunters begin battling with brutes. just as you enter the room to see elites coming from the sides and hunters and brutes advancing towards each other on the ground below and in front of you, there's this sweet heavy metal music that begins playing! i could play this part over and over again, just for the music...but the music totally matches the situation: this feeling of "it's time to kick some a-bam!- " overwhelms you. i would love to have more music like that in halo 3 campaign: music that just makes you feel that "these bad guys are guying down...hard."

anyone else feel the same way?

i must agree, the gun fire from a distance has to be the best audio addition on the game. its just so sweet and i love hearing the fire of sniper rifles from across the map... amazing

Spartans don't die, they simply go to hell and regroup.

Very good story. Some typos made me twitch, but very good. I like hearing about how you guys go about creating the things you do.

I am not a fan of this Lukems. Either learn how to write, or let Frankie do it. I hope you don't pass these updates through an editor, because if you do then i would suggest finding a new one.
