Subject: Bungie: Who put nudity in Halo 2 VIsta?

Let's make XBox live a quality game playing atmosphere.

I'm wanting to know who put the nudity in Halo 2 Vista? Was it Hired Gun, Bungie, or someone else? Also, was it done intentionally?

It was because of a .ASS error.

No.

Pi Studios did I believe. They dealt with the editor and made the two new maps.

They won't answer it.

It was probably just an inside joke by Pi Studios. It's not a big deal.

It is a large issue from the standpoint that those discs out had to have a label on them. Even the one site http://www.ebgames.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=646888, where the game is on sale, it says partial nudity is in the game. There are people like myself that don't think it should be in a game. I realize that someone other than Bungie might have put it in.

It wasn't put there on purpose, but you do have to ask HOW it got on there and why it was there in the first place.....

Microsoft is delaying the release of Halo 2 for Windows Vista after partial nudity on the game was discovered, the software giant said Friday.

Halo 2 for Windows Vista is now expected to hit the stores sometime in the first week of June, approximately two weeks behind the revised May 22 schedule. The game was originally scheduled for release on May 8, but was delayed due to some technical problems, Microsoft said at the time.

The software giant attributes the most recent delay to an "obscure content error" found in the initial production of Halo 2's map editor. That error was partial nudity.

Despite the error, Microsoft said it would be difficult to stumble across the offending content.

"This file is not in the game itself, nor will someone who simply plays the game ever encounter it," Microsoft stated.

The company has no plans to change the rating of its game, given it affects only the initial run of games and not subsequent shipments. Warning labels will be placed on packaging for the affected games, and Microsoft has developed a patch that can be downloaded to remove the content in question.

Bungie wouldn't -blam!- up their game by putting nudity in it. Some other people did.

I'm pretty sure it was a Bungie employee, however.

Speaking of which, I'm not surprised Bungie isn't mentioning any of this--at all--in the Bungie Weekly Update or whatever.

If Bungie isn't saying anything- on one hand it would seem like they should...make a public apology. If it's their game, they should be first to explain what happened. Maybe they're off for the weekend. I don't know when this news first got out.

For the last goddamn time Bungie had absolutely NOTHING to do with any part of Halo 2 Vistas development. Hired Gun and/or Pi studios put that in as a joke. It's actually quite common between programmers to leave easter eggs, backdoors, and other similar little goodies. Maybe for thier coworkers, and maybe for those few who take a poke through the code.

So you think that wanton and gratuitous violence is just fine and dandy, but the game shows a little skin and you suddenly develop a severe case of rectalgerbilitis necrosis? Please go get yourself a clue before you make such a bipolar statement ok?

I never said wanton and gratuitous violence is just fine and dandy. I have been playing Halo for a long time, and played Gears. I may be over both. I'm leaning more towards games that seem more "fun". "Dirt" (Demo) and "FlatOut2" are games I've been playing lately. I have so many laughs playing "FlatOut 2". It's really fun. Some games like Halo and Gears can be too frustrating. Maybe it's the nature of the game- like maybe being chainsawed- is too personal.

Uhh.. what is everyone talking about here?

"In an e-mail statement sent to Next-Gen, Microsoft said, “It has come to our attention that an unfortunate, obscure content error which includes partial nudity was included in our initial production of “Halo 2” for Windows Vista. As such, we have updated the initial game packaging at retailers with a label, so customers are aware before purchasing the game. Additionally, we’ve developed an online update which can be downloaded from www.halo2.com to remove the content.

“At Microsoft we take the Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB) guidelines very seriously and hold ourselves to high standards, with our customers always in mind.”

Sure enough, at halo2.com under the “support” section, there is an update dated 5/22, although it doesn’t explain the contents of the update.

Friday morning, however, the ESRB e-mailed Next-Gen a statement that said a "photograph of an individual showing his bare backside" is accessible within Halo 2 Vista's exclusive map editor tool. Apparently, it pops up when an ".ass" error occurs (see pic below, via the Halo 2 Vista forums).

Halo 2 is an M-rated game (17 and older). Microsoft informed the ESRB about the content just prior to the game's shipment to retail earlier this week. In effect, Microsoft has applied a "Partial Nudity" sticker as an additional content descriptor on the initial shipment of Halo 2 for Vista in the US and Canada.

"We have been advised by Microsoft that future runs of the game will be produced without the content in question, thus negating the need for the descriptor to be displayed on those versions," read the ESRB statement. "...ESRB’s job is to ensure that games are appropriately labeled, and that is precisely what we did in this case. We greatly appreciate Microsoft’s cooperation in this matter.”

Microsoft confirmed to Next-Gen yesterday that it had delayed Halo 2 for Vista from this week to next week. " - http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?option=com_content&task =view&id=5757&Itemid=2

Slaying noobs since 2007.

Before you ask more questions, if you look to the right of your tour you will see many informative posts, if you look straight ahead of the tour you will see flame bait put to use. Now have a good day, and remember before you open your mouth to say something just ask yourself, is it worth getting flamed over?

The map editor wasn't made for Halo 2 Vista, so there is a chance it was left in from Bungie's work on it from all those years ago.

But, like I said, also may have been Pi. One of the two!

If you're that bothered, look through all the Bungie employee photos and see who fits! ;)
