I don't know why or if its been reported before but all the posts in my group are out of chronological order and my stickies are floating in the middle of the page. This isn't a cache problem because its been like this for days and I though it was going to be fixed as just a minor error but ts still happening and it makes it really hard to tell what posts are new and what aren't.

The topic index that manages the topic order in the database has a few corruptions in it due to a bug. The bug has since been fixed, but we have to run a cleanup procedure to "re-index" the topics. This takes a while, and the forums must be taken offline to do it. But this is a holiday for most people outside of Bungie, and we don't want to be running maintenance today. Maybe tomorrow.

I remember when I used this space to put cool looking links to my chapters back in the day. I don't even know why I'm using it now. Why are you even reading this? You must be interested in me. Still reading?

Thank you. It is starting to get annoying.

When you run that cleanup procedure, will the effects only be to the main forums or does that work in the group forums as well? Just curious.

Ok, looks like the maintenance didn't happen yesterday. Maybe today? Can you give us a time frame on when this will be done? Maybe even post the time you plan on doing it a few hours beforehand?

Unfortunately, the standard rebuild procedure is not sufficient to fix the problem. I have traced the problem to a different issue within the topic index (involving a bad execution plan, for anybody who understands SQL). Unfortunately, the "quick fix" is not an option here because it was dramatically slow down performance: the site would not survive a spike in traffic, and would be strained under normal load.

The good news is that I have made the necessary fixes to the stored procedure at fault, and the changes will be included in our next maintenance release, currently scheduled for early in June.

Go Chiefs

Yo Achronos, does it still work to un-pin and pin a sticky to resort the posts? I have no idea how long that would take to do (I can't imagine more than a few seconds) but it would be greatly appreciated if the ninjas would do this when they visit forums that are out of sorts. Just until a permanent fix is in place anyway.

A fix for the majority of cases is in place. Some group forums are still not fixed yet, but that seems to be because they get updated less often and the system is not updating them properly. We're looking into it. More active groups and the public forums shouldn't get the error anymore, though. We'll keep at it though.

Ah, I did notice that our our "Ghost Sticky" stopped floating to the middle of the page and that my chapter has become more active. Every once in a while, my chapter will turn into a Ghost town and the "Ghost Sticky" will come ofrth again but it's no big deal.

It's continues to happen in the Maw. Sometimes a brand new topic will pop to the bottom of a page.
