Heh, I got a top of the line gaming PC here for about $3,000 - the only part less than top-of-the-line is the video card, a Radeon X800 Pro, but the only reason I have that is Newegg.com shipped the wrong one and I'm waiting for the Asus X800 XT to come back in. Of course I put it together myself and OC'ed it with help from HardOCP and some other places and saved a couple thousand dollars.
So, if you're not going to be using thie computer on the side you might as well just head to you local comp store and have them throw together some $400-$500 junk heap that'll work just fine for word processing, e-mail, and other boring office tasks.
