it only plays foreign games. you would have to get the Xbox modded to play US games

People who play imports get stabbed with red-hot pokers for eternity? I like it.

if you race a crystal/ clear xbox against an older "standard!?" black unit trying to rip the same cd the crystal is way slower, some guys were trying it out in the shop, (its not too busy on my lunch breaks)

Clear cases are sold separately ($30?) so you can just trasplant the guts and stuff of your old box to the new case. You will void your warranty if you do this, but your warranty probably expired two years ago like mine. If you don't want to risk opening your box, you can get Xbox skin sticker on the net in all kinds of designs.

Also, somebody told me that if you have a modded box, Microsoft can remotely fry it using Xbox live (to keep cheaters/hackers at bay). I don't know if this is really possible, but I wouldn't waste the money to try.

Or here is a crazy thought. Go to your local retailer of games and buy one... They came out in Canada, I don't think they came out in US. So uf you live near the border I suggest goiong to get one while the US dollar is still higher then the Canadian dollar. Also you wouldn;t have to mod it :)

actually they can, much like the satellite providers used to fry the K-cards that came in the original DirecTV setup.

The thing is that there is a legal gray area of if they can do it or not.

im not too comfortable about how much we're at the mercy of microsoft. it worries me. we pay for the games but they can do whatever they want to it if youre on Live.

I have seen an american/canadian version at EB games during the HAlO 2 launch. I think they USED to only be in the UK and now there is a US version (I assume it is a limited edition)

Actually, no they can't. Microsoft cannot send a boosted frequency through either your standard electrical outlets of your Live service. Particularly with Live and frying it via your cable modem, Federal law prohibits the third party access to privately owned equipment without a warrant. Don't spread these kinds of rumors - it's clear you don't know what you're talking about and too many people take hearsay for granted.

he is correct. even ms (yes, the satan corp who owns everything) cannot break fed reg's on what can and cannot be done over privately owned lines (cable, dsl, etc) and what can and cannot be done to privately owned equipment especially. i hate rumorvilles and these forums are full of them... just do some real research and find out for yourself
