I wanted to know if there is a free downloadable dedicated server files, so that game hosters can host servers that are on 24/7 (like normal css servers) instead of the user having to create it themselves and when they quit the servers goes offline I wanted to know if it is available or will it be available in a short time.

The H2V dedicated server is included in the H2V disk.

The HPC dedicated server download is found here:http://www.fileshack.com/browse.x?cat=1818

Can you give a path for the H2V dedicated server files? I need it for a friend as I don't have Halo 2 YET.

Just remember that you need a Windows Live Gold membership to host dedicated servers.

I have a Gold account I use on my Xbox 360.

1. Will I also be able to use this gold account for HV2?

2. I want to run a dedicated server offsite at a server farm, will i be able to run that server 24/7 and play from home at the same time or will i need a gold account for my server and another gold account for the game client at my house?

3. I assume the dedicated server files will run on "MS Windows 2003 Server"? Is that correct?

I am in the same boat as NitroKOS - we manage dedicated server software for our business and we're being asked to run Halo 2 servers.

The standard PC dedicated server model is that games publishers/developers release the dedicated server software as a free download and then they're just run by anyone that wants to run a server.

If this isn't going to apply for Halo 2 it's going to make finding servers much harder than it should be.

Yes, please create a standalone version for the Halo 2 dedicated server. We need some dedicated servers here in Australia, I/we cannot depend on 1 or 2 people to host servers that are on and off when they play...

Even if it is a free download there are two things you need to run it on Live. You need a silver or gold LIVE account, and you need a valid CD key. The $25, 000 question is.... do these things have to be unique or can you use existing? If it is the former that going to require the server company to purchase a copy of the game for every server they make which they will pass on as a setup fee and discourage people & clans from getting a server.

Yes Microsoft needs to change the part about Gold membership only gets dedicated servers...it is letting so many Halo fans and server farms down.
