Hey, I'm new here

I don't know if this subject has been brought up before, but a few weeks ago I finished reading Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. It really was a great book, but I couldn't help but feeling that there was striking similarity between the story told in EG and Halo. I mean you have this kid who is trained from the age of 6 to a be a great soldier and possibly the greatest general the world has ever seen. They are fighting a against an alien species, that has attacked some of Earth's outer colonies and is supposedly going to move in for the kill. But what got me the most was the way that the aliens were discovered. According to the book contact was lost with a planet on the outer fringes of Earth's colonization area, and then a ship was sent to investigate. This ship is captured and destroyed ofcourse, but the way the covenant are discovered is very similiar to this.

Could the Bungie writers have borrowed some ideas from the Ender's Game? Or is it just a coincidence? Ofcourse there isn't the deep religious, and mysterious backstory found in Halo, in the Ender's Game, but there seems to be alot in common between the two.

Anyways I would recommend the book if you want some good Sci-fi action.

I think that maybe Ender's Game influenced Halo somewhat. It's in a general concept sort of way with the war, but it would be hard to beleive that it had no influence between the children raised to be generals and the SPARTAN-II's.

Ender's Game is a great read, and is compelling. The only part of the story that I really didn't get was with the two children bent on taking control of the world thing. I mean eventually someone would find out that they're kids!

Yeah, that was alittle weird, but I guess Card wanted show that even though they weren't accepted to battle school they were still geniuses, and were two different personalities that blended into Ender.

I think if Halo ever had any spinoffs they would have to make a strategy game where you commanded a whole fleet of ships just like from the book.
