This game is almost like it's setup to fail.

Video Issues
- Give us more settings? What game in the world has not allowed us to choose to turn on/off shadows and lighting effects on the PC. This Low/Medium/High crap is the worst thing ever. Weather effects are too much for 6100 / 7100 / 7300's to handle. Lockout, the map that is played the most in my opinion, is unplayable because of it, gg.

Server/Multiplayer Related Issues
- Congrats on being the second game I've ever played to not have a connect by IP system. Now for competition, we either have to find the server we're supposed to be in or join though our friends, but what happens when our friends lists become full? Thanks for the job well done there.
- Why is it you can't limit the amount of people that are in a server. Who wants to play 8v8 in Midship on Assault or 1 Flag. Even TS is a pain because there's just too many people on that small of a map. I've NEVER played a game where you couldn't lock the amount of players.
- Server browser is laggy. Don't know why, but it seems like it is for everyone I know in game that I've asked.
- Why can you stop the countdown on the dedicated servers??? I've been forced out of a server so many times because some idiot that is mad at life and wants to /kill himself keeps pressing "x" to delay the countdown everytime it comes up. Why is that even an option for people? Great thinking.

Misc. Issues
- Why is it still "Press X to change teams?" I know it's a console to PC port but give me a break. You couldn't have worked it to favor a PC player??? If I really wanted to play with a controller I'd spend $100 on an xbox and $20 on the game and just play with that. It's a cheaper way out as oppose to having to spend $250+ (not including the price of Vista) to play a game that I should be able to run at least on LOW with a steady frame rate on every map. 30+ at least.
- Issues with GeForce 8800's. The frame rate is.... too fast? GG. Some of my friends computers are "too good" for the game to run.
- Laggy mouse feeling. Half the people have it, half don't. It does seem like it's a hardware problem though. Not sure what the cause to it is, but you people are the experts, test it with lower grade mouses and fix it plx.

Bungie, you guys did a GREAT job with finding someone new to make the port. I would have rather had Gearbox make it than Hired Gun. At least they knew how to make a game playable online.

I love the game, but it's going to die out unless you guys (talking mainly to Bungie) fix these things for us yourself. Hired Gun was apparently incapable of making a decent port.

Anyone else have changes they would like to see come to the game?

If you think you can do a better job, then do it. Don't complain. The game is still fun as hell.

That's just it. It's not my job. And I never said that it's not fun. I love the game to death, but myself along with a handful of people have been waiting for it for competitive play, but this game seems to not support that aspect at all. When Hired Gun made this, they didn't think about the aspect of competitive play at all it seems. Heh, to them, it's apparently fun to play with 16 people on any map on any game type.

Most of the PC issues posted here are the result of PEBKAC.

Video Issues
-6100's arent' supposed to run this game at all. 7300's only a low.

Server/Multiplayer
-I don't think your friends list will fill up for a while.
-Figure it out.
-Specs please.
-You can stop the countdown just in case someone wants to join last second. Everything is abusable somehow, deal with it.

Misc.
-PRESS E DAMMIT!
-Faster framerates are good.
- It's not the mouse, it's just you. get used to it.

Quit complaining.

Agreed, Forthewin88. Hired Gun obviously does NOT know how a PC game works/or should be played.

The easiest way to kill all Covenant.

1. Put a sign on a door that says. Forerunner Artifacts here.
2. Watch them pile in.
3. Blow it to pieces.
4. Repeat!

Hired Gun has done a good job in porting the game, it's just Microsoft which causes all the problems. Hired Gun was "hired" by Microsoft to port Halo 2 the way Microsoft wanted to see it on the PC, so all these limited options and other problems are Microsofts wrongdoing.

I actually agree with all of your points in your first post. No one can argue that this port doesn't need more work. The section I've quoted above is a particularly strange behavior that I'd like to emphasize (as I haven't seen anyone else mention it). With no vscync, gameplay seems to literally speed up relative to frames per second, much like playing an old emulated Nintendo game without frame limiting on a modern computer. It is one thing to experience this when playing old games on an emulator, but to have it exhibited on a professional port of a blockbuster title is a bit discouraging.

Another thing the Golden membership, we need to pay an amount every month to get Golden membership (don't we?) and that sucks for all those server farms out there, specially here in Australia. How much exactly does it cost per month for Golden Membership (Australian Dollars IF POSSIBLE.)...

For the record, my 7900 GS runs the game poorly on any video settings. Should that be the case?

The video issues do need to be fixed.

It isn't an "amateur game company". Hired Gun is a part of MGS, not a seperate company.

One thing I believe needs to be changed is the mouse sensitivity. The 1 to 10 scale works perfectly, for controllers that is. But since I use the keyboard + mouse, I need a higher sensitivity option. I'm tired of having to run my mouse off the desk just to turn enough to see my target.

Also, gold membership to play an online game where the servers AREN'T hosted by M$/Bungie is just plain ridiculous. If you could play against players on their Xbox/360, then it would make a bit more sense.

No, I mean that they aren't doing any hosting so it isn't costing them any money. Thus, since they aren't spending money to keep the online games going, why should we have to spend for full online capability?

That is why Xbox live costs money, because the game servers are run by M$ and we just pay for maintaining them.

  • 06.02.2007 6:51 PM PDT

Thinking of something witty to write here since 2004...

Completely agreed with you. It seems like Hired Gun wanted to make a port from Xbox to PC for Xbox gamers. Why are the menus still biased towards controllers? And why does the mouse feel like you're dragging around a 10 ton weight when you look? They made a good effort at simplifying an online FPS but the veteran PC gamers know what everything does. Is an advanced options in the video settings too much to ask for?

You actually don't need the GFW Gold membership to play multiplayer servers. What you get with Gold is multiplayer achievements and a few convenience options, otherwise the multiplayer is playable on Silver or Gold, unlike X-Box Live.

I understand the disappointment some people might be dealing with, however the game is playable. No game is perfect when it first comes out. Give it time, bugs will be worked out. I'm not against people pointing out flaws as long as it's done professionally, but to flat out insult these companies is rude. These people took ALOT of time to bring this game to you. You could at least be a bit more appreciative of their hard work by NOT trashing the company. As one guy earlier said, if you think you can do better, go for it. If not, live with it. No one forced you to play this game, so stop acting like it.

I won't even if I had a 360. (which I'm saving up for atm) But really, we need a higher mouse sensitivity (even 10 is too slow, I'd need like a 20 on their scale)
and we also need more advanced video options. Actually, the video problems wouldn't be so bad if Bungie wasn't so freaking in love with bump mapping.

Hmm.. Maybe an option to turn off bump mapping would be a good idea.
