One more thing, what is your average FPS in Halo 2 Vista?

Let there be CHAOS!

Depends on where I am... 36-50 most of the time, but sometimes in a crazy battle (or even just when I'm near someone) it will drop a bit. In the menu though, I'm usually getting an awful framerate (think 15-25).

When I run it in windowed mode, I seem to get a higher framerate for some reason though, maybe a little past 60 at times.

4xAA
800x600

Wow how can you not get 100+ FPS on this game ..

I have a BFG Nvidia 8600GTS OC (ftw) and I play max gfx, max AA, and 1280x1024 ressy. GG??

EagleEye FTW

(The only lag I ever get is when ur mom gets on the server .. imagine setting a 3ton rock on a fat kid trying to roller skate up a grassy hill. Dam!)

I get 60 constant at 1280 x 1024 (though i prefer playing in an 1152 x 720 window, w/s ftw)

WHen I take vsync off, the fps feels like -blam!- but fraps reads at about 180ish on midship.

eagleeye, There's a difference between badass and dumbass. what I have seen of you, you lean towards the latter.

I don't know how much fps I get. But the game runs very smoothly. I run 2x AA no vertical sync, 1280x1024 res, max visuals and all that good stuff. I am going to try 4x AA to see how much of a performance hit I get. For some reason my computer ran this game really badly at first, But now it runs great... who knows...

Yea, its strange. I'm playing at default settings (1024-768-----High Details-----4xAA) and in some areas it will drop below 20fps, in other areas it will rocket above 100fps. When my frame rate does go above 100fps according to FRAPS, the game sometimes still looks like its playing at 25-30fps, which is about the amount of frame rate you get with the xbox version. The game is a bit buggy, but some of the reason could also be due to crappy NVIDIA drivers. I think once a patch comes out for H2V and a new NVIDIA driver we will see around a 10-20% performance increase.

30+ for me most of the times, average of 60.

depends, i have a pretty good setup (2.8ghz, x800, 1gb ram) and most games can run 80-100fps even in a fire fight, but for some reason every game in windows vista (including halo 2) runs up to like 40-50 fps, and in fire fights i've seen it go as low as 10fps

Learn to take a joke. K Thanks.
As common courtesy, joking comments are usually accompanied with something along the lines of "j/k" at the end of a post. Besides, your post does not appear to be in jest, it looks to actually be pointed and hurtful. Besides, if I couldn't take a joke (not that I consider what you posted as a joke), I would not have been able to reply with sarcasm (a form of joking), could I?

I used FRAPS to get the following results after playing the Outskirts level to just after the first beach battle:

1920x1200, all max settings, no AA - 102.361 FPS avg, 190 FPS max
1920x1200, all max settings, 4X AA - 83.63 FPS avg, 142 FPS max
1280x1024, all max settings, no AA - 127.146 FPS avg, 233 FPS max
1280x1024, all max settings, 4X AA - 108.353 avg, 210 FPS max

I'd really expect this game (considering its relative graphical simplicity, especially compared to F.E.A.R. and HL2) to run faster than this on my system. I'm also surprised that AA gives such a performance hit. With my 8800 GTS cards, AA is usually "free." Regardless, I'll probably stick with 1920x1200 and no AA...I don't really notice any difference with AA on anyway at that high resolution.

Oh yeah, my system:
C2D E6700 @ 2.66 GHz (no o/c)
2x EVGA 8800 GTS 640MB Superclocked (SLI)
EVGA nForce 680i LT motherboard
2GB Corsair XMS2 TWIN2x1024-6400C4 memory

One other thing...I had to force Vsync Off in the NVIDIA control panel. I might have missed it, but I didn't see an in-game option for it.

I had the same problem with my set up. Just make sure you completely install the game to the hard drive before you play it...once you do that, the flickering will disappear.

How do you display the in-game FPS without using FRAPS?

The funny thing is Halo 2 runned on an Intel 733mhz p3 based processor that uses the same architecture found in pc cpu's, nvidia gpu intergrated into the north bridge chipset that shared 64 mb ram. I have seen ppl use a normal xbox converted to a debug kit with the xbox monitoring program up and it showed halo running at a locked 30 fps max and it rarely went under 20 fps. Now how can a top of the line computer thats over 4 times more powerful and 32 times the ram system, a ton more Graphics ram not run halo 2 vista smothly? On one web site a guy said Bungie doesnt know how to make code run efficiently it wasn't Bungie that stuffed up it was MSG and Hired Gun Halo 2 runned excellent on the xbox. Also how could MSG and Bungie get H2 running on the 360 good and not the pc? It has a totaly different cpu architecture than the x86 processor and won't run x86 code without an emulator, a new gpu made by ATI and 512 shared ram? Sure there are some glitches but it runs smooth. Bungie OWNS at programing. Now its back to making maps for H2 and when im done i can only hope that a patch will make H2 run more smothly because im going crazy not to blow the triangle count on my map.

  • 06.11.2007 7:31 AM PDT

depends on the map, if it's indoors its usually at like 40 fps, but outdoors in big maps it can be as bad as 20fps and maybe 10-15fps in a fire fight

Well, for what it's worth, my frame rate never drops below 80-90, even during outdoors firefights...as it should be with the hardware I'm running. Hopefully a patch will be released because this game ought to run like butter on even low-end systems.
