I know many of you are aware of this so it's not really to you but I cant believe allot of these cheaters take the time to learn the cheats but dont take the time to read up on whats now going to happen to them. Now it's not Just Bungie and not just Halo either. I'm sure some will find work arounds, they always do but for the not so smart ones. Some say just get a new gamer Tag :) In case those have not been reading and are here to see what this is about? They (MicroSoft, XBox Live) are not playing around this time. They are going after your XBox not you, meaning your box will no longer work on XBox Live, also to take it further it will only play games you have already Played (nothing more will be saved) and will not play any more new games. So your XBox pritty much becomes worthless.
Now this is only what I read so I dont know first hand but like Bungie said "go ahead and try" Sooner we get rid of them the better. We may not really know what level they really consider to be cheating but if you know it wasn't intended to be part of the game? Dont do it.It's not worth it to find out. You know no matter how hard you plead it wont work and not one single reason will work.
I only posted this because I just read a post about someone pleading to get back in and this might be worth spreading around more to make more aware for the ones that arent.

Agreed, although after the last update I've yet to see a cheater. as far as Bridging goes, from what I know it's pretty much impossible now.

Since I joined Xbox live, every time I reported a cheater by email I've harped on them to ban Xbox hardware mac addresses, instead of by gamertags. That would make their xbox useless for live, but they could still play games offline. This would be dumb for them to do, though, economically. Forcing them to buy new gamertags to play fills their coffers. Keeping them from playing online hurts their sales. Do you really think they would do that? I still think they only go after gamertags, not xbox's.

Show me documentation that they're actually banning xbox/360 units rather than gamertags.... I'll jump up and down in glee. Until you do, I don't believe it.

Well, for the Halo 3 beta if you're caught modding it whatsoever, you do get your 360 banned. This was told in a weekly update not long ago (the week before last if I'm not mistaken.)

I'll see if I can find/link it.

edit

Ok, I can't seem to get the link (for some odd reason) but I could at least track down the quote based on people copy/pasting it to other threads.

This is from SketchFactor I believe:

Major Nelson and Gamerscoreblog posted reminders today that people who log onto Live using modified consoles are being dealt with. As more and more people pour into the Halo 3 Beta, please take this warning to heart. Using modified content and hacked boxes is against the Terms of Use for Xbox Live and doing so will result in your console being permanently banned from the service. Forever. For all games.

If you get an error message "Status Code: Z: 8015 - 190D" it means you are done playing Xbox Live on that console. Congrats.

I don't believe for a second that xboxes are being banned for cheating. There's only one reason MS ever banned hardware, and that's if you hard-mod it - endangering their revenues by being able to play copied games, and using your xbox (which you paid for, remember) for purposes other than that which microsoft deemed you permitted to do.

When they ban a gamertag, ch-ching - that's another gold account sold, right there. However many people can't or won't replace a banned xbox, meaning MS just lost out on more moolah.

Yeah, I knew about modders getting their just desserts, but other cheaters, such as bridgers, standbyers, etc just get the slap on the wrist (aka gamertag ban).

That is what has always been most prevalent as far as cheating goes. Most people have seen modded games at some point, I think. EVERYONE has been affected by standbyers/bridgers.

But, like I said, MS would never ban Xbox's for that one. It would cut into their profits.

did this guy just have a fit or something?? :S anyway morons aside.

i would love for MS to ban cheaters for good but as you said is not all that likely to happen due to profit reasons, not saying this in a bad way its just they are a company and its what they make games for so no hard feelings there bungie.

however i was thinking it would be somewhat more productive if they banned there gamertag forever and gave them a cooldown period of say 1 week before they can create another one.

a 3 strike rule could also work for modders say banned gamertag 3 times and its the banhammer for good. what you think? i think thats more than reasonable for dirty cheating scum.

Or for injecting modified content into Live's closed network, thereby jeopardising their ability to deliver fair online games and risking account cancellations from their honest customers. Don't forget that.

-- Steve's thinking that one alone is enough to justify a hardware ban. Besides, it wouldn't kill hax0rs to just not play games they can't afford.

Economically wise that would be the best thing or would it? Some people will actually cancel their accounts because of all of the cheaters/modders.Thus, both ways they will lose some profits from modding. Either way modding is stupid, annoying, and really freaking unfair to honest-to-God XBOX Live players. For the above guy that is a good idea but soon the modders will find a more effective, slyer way to modd. So sooner or later they'll have to make it where they just disable said modder's XBOX or 360 from XBOX Live for good.
