Obvious rebuttal:

Some people don't reply when they vote.

Logical reply:

A thread is bumped to the top of the list because there's something new added to the conversation that people might want to read. A vote is simply another number.

Subsequently:

Not every poll requires a written response and a simple click adds to the query.

Friendly Interjection:

Could be used to anonymously bump threads by clearing the cache and re-voting, thus disallowing the potential for punishment.

Respectful Aside:

This is a discussion forum, not a voting forum. Threads that generate discussion are better than a bunch of replyless polls.

Ominous Prediction:

If voting bumped a thread, every thread would contain a poll from now on.

Disarming "winking smiley":

It'd need some tweaking of the polling mechanics. being able to hit back, forward, then vote again to anonymously bump the topic might be a bit.. spammy.

Strange evolution how people have come to believe
That we are it's greatest achievement

Overrating themselves

It could be viewed that a new vote is new input to the thread/poll and should bump the topic.

I dont see it being abused anymore than someone bumping thier thread with lame replies or "oops, sorry for the double post".

its like a large force of win going through fusion, thus creating a chain reaction of a huge asplosion of win destroying any fail within its awesomeness.

No, some polls may be popular, receiving many votes. Maybe a compromise would work. Maybe every 5, or 10 votes should 'bump' the thread.

Yes, but that's against the rules. So it IS bad.

Moreover, people who bump threads with lame replies or the old "oops" trick can be seen and punished. Votes are anonymous. Unless some pretty significant changes were made to the polling system, thread authors who "bumped" via voting could never be caught.

One option would be to have a list of the top five recently active polls on a side bar...
Then if someone voted it would go to the top, not necessarily of the threads but of the side bar.

I remember when I used this space to put cool looking links to my chapters back in the day. I don't even know why I'm using it now. Why are you even reading this? You must be interested in me. Still reading?

Not quite sure about the voting bumps the thread thing. I still think that comments should be the only thing to bump threads. If a topic you post or a topic that you enjoy drops to the bottom of the page or to the next page doesn't mean it's time to be bumped. If no one posts in it, the members obviously aren't interested in wasting their time posting to it. If a person votes and doesn't back up their vote then there is no discussion and no need to post. Bumping will just lead to comments like "Stop Bumping!" and stuff like that and has nothing to do with the current discussion and will keep it at the top of the page and will probaly be locked.

If you read the B.net forum rules here, you will notice the part that reads, "* Bumping is illegal. Breaking this law has high consequences. Such as but not limited to: assignation by ninja, hippo licking, and/or complete forum thread annihilation. Or we will most likely just lock your topic. Don't bump!" It doesn't say anything about vote bumping and nor is it a feature of Bungie so if you like, you could add this idea to one of the "Future Ideas fo B.net" threads and discuss it there.
