Plot-wise, yes. Halo was fresh and new. You didn't know what to expect. H2 is just more of it so it seems tarnished somewhat. Also the parallel storyline kinda pissed people off. Personally I liked it but I'll admitt, I'm in a minority on this matter. As far as gameplay, I thought that H2 was a little better than the first though. The vehicles were a little more polished (metaphorically; not meaning graphics wise) and there were a better variety of guns of wich their quality was NOT diminished. The flood were more scary in H2, but you're right. The suspense in CE was better because you didn't know what to expect. A reason that makes H2's shortcomings (as far as suspense) somewhat forgiveable.

Yeah that makes sense.
I didn't really mind the parallel storylines, I just didn't think the action was quite as thought out in Halo 2.

Well, with most of them, though I was a sucker for the assualt rifle... but I don't quite feel like beating that dead horse today, and anyway, Halo 3 will heal those gushing wounds in a few months. All I must do is wait.... wait.... wait.... eat some chips.... wait...

EDIT: oh dude but no beef, cuz u got an rvb quote on ur profiley thing too, and us proud few must stick together!

They did such a great job building up the suspense of the part where you first fight the flood I was scared to death. Just after you watched the movie from Jenkins helmet and the took out everybody you have hundreds of them just trying to swarm you. It was one of my favorite parts of the game!

I just thought, hey; now there's an easy enemy to fight!

When me and my friend were playing Co-op, We were on the sixth mission (343 Guilty Spark) we were going through the swamp, when we finnaly reached the structure we fought a few covies and then we went to that one door where you first meet the flood. After the cut scene finished we heard all the doors pop off, we looked around then we saw little creatures all over the ground and then we saw the fat ass carriers and the Combat Forms, We were like "HOLY -BLAM!-" Then we just started blasting everywhere and trying to escape. It was an experience to first see the Flood :)

I accidently skipped the cutscene before the flood, so I had no idea that it was coming. When I saw the little ones coming towards me I just thought "holy crap, what are those things?" It was the same feeling that you get when you see a large bug in real life. Y'know, the kind that's so big that one step wouldn't be enough to kill it?

When the combat forms showed up, I thought they were the little ones smushed together into a bipedal form. I had no idea what to do, and when I checked the objectives and all it said was "escape!!", my first thought was "blam!"

i was playing co-op with my uncle .we had came to the first flood level an we saw them we freaked and nearly wet our selfs.here are the flood coming in big swarms and we ran out of the swaps like hell.after awhile the flood became funny.

  • 06.22.2007 8:22 AM PDT

First time I saw them-standing on top of one of the structures in the room-not much ammo left then....'ahhhh for -blam!- sake what the hell is this -blam!-'....or something like that...can I say stuff like that on the forum??

  • 06.22.2007 11:36 AM PDT

"El honk"
BLARGH

I wasn't expecting it either, but I knew some serious -blam!- was gonna go down when I took that creepy elevator down. Random dead bodies...broken doors...eerie music...then the helmet. Then I was like, OMG, it's Resident Evil!!! RUN!!! I hope there's an event like that in Halo 3.

  • 06.22.2007 5:43 PM PDT

I went back to play Oracle on Halo 2 maybe a month ago. I'm cruising through the level on Heroic when I make it to the elevator-like thing Blasting away, i get smacked in the back of the head by something...turn around and there's like six tentacles waving at me through what was an Elite's body. By then I'm like "-blam!-" The thing slaps me again with its long tendrils and i die. As I'm laying there, i heard the combat form laugh at me like a rival would.

I then proceeded to turn off my 360 and walk out of the room.

The laugh chilled me to the bones, easily my worst Flood moment, Halo CE or 2.

Cogito Ergo Sum

I don't really remember my first encounter, but I know that EVERYTIME I face the Flood, I get scared. And not like boo, but like that tingling feeling all over your body and your palms and bottoms of your feet begin to sweat. If you read the books, even the Chief gets scared of the Flood when he encounters them. I think Bungie did a GREAT GREAT job of replicating this in the game, and it's one of the things I like most about the campaign.

Ok, freaky swamp...I guess I'll get this shotgun here.
Few minutes later...
Why are you running towards me you grunt? wait, I see yellow dots. *looks around and sees a misterious figure in the swamp running* umm...I'm not going back down there...
Few mintues later...
Umm...why are the grunts and jackels dead? And in a freaky bloody way? Oh a marine. He's shooting at me! *runs around a corner and listens to what he's say, then goes to the bathroom, then comes back* Scary!
Few minutes later...
*While looking in the jail room thing and sees red blood and assualt rifles all over the floor*No way.*goes down and watchs the recording, then truns it off* I'll play this in the moring.

i just started firing like a maniac and my friend pissed his pants!! i just laughed

  • 06.24.2007 8:18 PM PDT

It was awesome. Too bad it's only the first time... I must admit that the first enounter of the flood in halo 2 did almost the same thing. Almost because, well we already knew of its existence.

Hah, Lucky bastard, When I first saw the flood it was when Halo first came out. So I was roughly 9 or 10.. I can't Remember, (I'm 15 near 16 now) so I was damn near -blam!- myself. I called up my friend who had beaten the game already and asked him how long I had to fight them. Hah, I didn't finish the game for at least a year later.

Now that I look back at it, Damn I was a baby, Now I like fighting the flood. Easiest enemy to fight I belive.

I don't know if that first feeling can ever be re-created, but hopefully bungie has some tricks up their sleeves and can evoke those same emotions with a new enemy or some bad-a$$ intro to a huge battle

When I first saw them, I wasted way too much ammo on the baby flood. Then the big guys came in and again I was wasting way too much ammo. It also surprised the heck out of me when the flood started using weapons. For the first few minutes you just fight the unarmed versions... It was nice when I realized small, short bursts take out the babies and I was almost disappointed at how easy the shotty took out the big dudes. Before I stumbled upon the shotty for taking out the flood, I felt it was a pretty useless weapon for me.

Mendicant Bias: Someone set us up the Halo. We get signal.

Medicant Bias: Main screen turn on.

Gravemind: What you say?!
Offensive Bias: You have no chance to survive, make your time. Ha ha ha.

Well, when I first encountered the Flood, I was playing with my 9 year old cousin (12 now. he could own every last one of you.) We watched the cutscene with Sgt Johnson and the Flood. I was like, "How much ammo you got?". He replied "Almost full...", Then I said ".....good. We're gonna freakin need it."

The Flood came and the "If it moves shoot it. If it still moves, shoot it till it doesn't." instinct came in full force. I almost shotgunned my cousin in the face on more than one occasion. We we're doing pretty well. "Hey, these die real easily....like.....one or two bullets....." he said. "Yeah.....this is easy......HOLY CRAP THEY'RE ALL OVER ME!!!! SHOOT EM!!!" We ran and ran killing as many of those guys as we could. Then I said "So what do these guys do anyways? *combat form pops out*......man, that's just not right."

Needless to say we booked outta there as fast as humanly possible. But not before figuring out that Plasma Grendades were NOT a good idea, and that the Shotgun is the most effective weapon. Our hearts racing, we get out of there and meet 343GS. "Think we'll see them again?" my cousin asked. "Probably. Hang on to that Shotgun of yours."

I was young, all i thought was that if I needed to shoot something, I'll shoot it... 3 years later I finally realize the whole story of Halo, then when i first saw them for the first time I knew what they were, I was freaked... I was also playing it in the dark at midnight with no lights on so it made it verrrry erily scary for me....
