Subject: What do you use?

Let there be CHAOS!

Lol guys stop being so Macophobic, it's just an OS/computer (a bit on the expensive side sometimes though), a good one at that. The OS just doesn't play most of my games however...

But if I ever did buy a Mac, I can just use Boot Camp to boot XP/Vista when I want to play games.

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

Windows XP Home and GNU/Linux (PCLinuxOS).

And seriously, who in their right mind uses linux as a primary operating system for personal use?
Why, people who prefer to have complete control over their hardware and OS. People that prefer to trust in F/OSS developers than developers that work to make a profit. People that enjoy having almost unlimited capabilities regarding multimedia, graphics, audio, development, and deployment. Oh, and, people that hate to pay for an OS.

Heh, yeah!

And remember that short lived "windows alternative", BeOS? I almost miss it, even with it's putrid yellow default color scheme.

My computer dual boots Windows XP and Ubuntu Linux. I am getting a new computer next week with Windows Vista on it. The first thing I am doing when I get the computer is dual booting it with Ubuntu Linux. (I do not like Vista, but need it for Halo 2 Vista). In addition, I have a dedicated server/domain controller running Windows Server 2008 beta 3. I also have an IBM PS/2, made in 1992, that runs Windows 3.11 in my collection of computers. My collection of operating systems includes: Windows 1.01, Windows 3.1, Windows 3.11, Windows NT 3.51, Windows NT 4 (server and workstation), Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 2000 (professional and server), Windows XP, and OS.2 Warp 3 and 4. I have all these operating systems installed on my computer via Microsoft Virtual PC 2007.

Well now.

You have more control over your hardware in Windows because Windows acctually supports it.

I can't argue about trust, but I'd rather trust someone that I'm paying to do something, then some random 18 year old geek on the internet.

And about the unlimited capabilities regarding multimedia, graphics, audio, development, and deployment...
- Multimedia, graphics, audio: Limited by hardware support and by lack of people caring\using it
- Development: Are you trying to make me laugh? Linux is by far the hardest OS to do any development on. It lacks: .NET, C#, VB, DirectX and a large development and support community.
- Deployment: Is this just so much better than on Windows because your target audience is 50000x smaller?

And lastly, no one is making you pay for anything. You have the completely free choice of paying for the OS or pirating it. (You are responsible for you own actions.)

Awwwwwww, but that's the fun of Open Source!

But seriously, I think there's an OS that's even harder to develop for, and that's Unix/BSD.
