I just did a fresh install of Vista Ultimate on my gaming rig today for the sole purpose of playing HV2. I ran all the updates and installed the latest drivers for all my devices, here are my specs:

Proccessor: P4 3.20 GHz
Memory: 4GB (3GB reported by the system as its only 32 bit OS of course)
Video: X1950Pro 512MB
HD: Two 10k RPM Raptor Drives run in a RAID 0 config for speed
Monitor: NEC 2070NX (20 inch LCD)
Mouse: MS Habu
Keyboard: Logitec G15

I am a contractor for MS (yes, sad I know) and I have spent some times in the MS labs building and configuring 1000's of machines in one year so I know my way around a PC and I know how to make sure everything is up to date with proper drivers and in good condition.

I load up HALO 2 PC and immediately even the menu screens and load screens lag real real bad. Before I play the game i set everything to the lowest setting: 800x600, turn off AA, Low detail, etc. When i get in game the lag is so bad its unplayable, doesnt matter if im playing solo or multiplayer. This is just a huge letdown.

Has anyone found any tricks I can try to get this slow dog workin correctly?

Gaming Systems:
Intel Core i7 720QM (4 cores, 8 threads)
4Gb DDR3-1333mhz
1Gb AMD Radeon HD 4650
Windows 7 64bit

Xbox 360 w/ 20Gb HDD (2008 edition) & XBL Gold.

I don't see anything wrong with ur job. Do MS pay well?

There is something seriously wrong there. In this situation, the problem is not with the game, i think. I know someone with a similar rig:

-Pentium 4 3.2Ghz w/ HT.
-1GB DDR533 RAM
-Radeon X1800 256Mb.

But as you can see it's not really as fast as yours is. Something i have noticed is that those with Dual Core CPUs do fare much better than those without. Whether this is an artifact of the Dual Core optimisations Hired Gun made with the engine to future proof the PC version, i don't know. I know HT isn't Dual Core, but it's a similar albeit inferior CPU concept. But, still, there is nothing on your PC that should lead to it being unplayable, that's certain, your Graphics Card and RAM are obviously ample. My friend is running Halo 2 Vista at 1600x1200 with High detail but no Anti-Aliasing, at around 30-40fps, so more than playable.

So rest assured it's not an unsolvable problem :P If it was with the game, you'd have to wait for a patch, which may be weeks in the coming yet.

NitrioKOS I am running

p4 3.2 ghz
2 gb ram
7200 rpm drive
ati x1600 256 mb card.

My game runs fairly well at 1024x768 on medium detail and 2x AA.

Did you install your drivers for your motherboard? It needs those north and south bridge chipset drivers. Sounds like you didnt and that would definitely make it run like a turd.

Most of the PC issues posted here are the result of PEBKAC.

Is your HD LED flashing or lit up constantly?
