Hah. Just so you know, I turn thirteen next week and live in Florida. Linky to evil site

Excuse me, ladies, but where do the parents come in? I am a 35 year old man, and my two thirteen and fourteen year old children love to play their new game, Halo 2. I understand where you're coming from, but shouldn't you be spending time to bond with your children instead of making a web site? The reason that the fine students at Columbine became so deluded is not only video games and movies, but also the fact that all of their peers shunned them. Shouldn't the parents have tried to teach their children some social skills? If the parents had been more responsible, we would have had two more fine high school graduates. Please mail me back with your answers to my questions. I personally love video games. I am a doctor at an esteemed Boston-area hospital, and I often sit back and play Counter-Strike with my associates. Again, please respond.

Agreed. Such groups cannot be convinced in any way by by any one. God himself could come down from heaven and say "video games don't cause kids to do violent acts" and they would still not change their minds.

The best thing to do is just ignore them.

Nice e-mail I suppose, but that site has been proven to be nothing more than a joke played by a couple of bored college students. I'm sorry, but if you really are 35 then I'd like to warn you that you may be wasting your time...

Haha who ever made that site is dumb.... In my opinion it's the bad parenting that make bad people. Example: You were overly obused as a child. When you have children you will think it's alright to hurt them(maybe not think so). But you will because your parents were basically training you (not so much punishing). So I conclude that parents are responsible for violent children(not making it up(learned it in Health class(learned it in school))). Thus causing mental harm.

but... They wouldn't listen to me if I spoke as an eigth grader, because they would just say that I was addicted. That wouldn't be good, so I played the name game. I was actually born in a hospital in Boston, so it's partially true. ;-) Our little secret, eh?

By our I mean the forums. There's nothing secret within the sect. Now, where are those needles..... hey! I should try some of this! I've been looking for it for ages! *loud sniffing* Aah. See? I'm not addicted to videogames. It's something else.

Just kidding.

If I complained to them and told them I was a freshman in highschool, they wouldn't just call me addicted, they would call me a pot head. I'm sick of it. I'm not a pot head.

Exactly. We need them to think we're on their level, so they come down and talk to us. Ah, the marvels of the internet.

Easy... just send a well written email... like this one i sent (similar to the one above)

"In my opinion it's the bad parenting that make bad people. Example: You were overly abused as a child. When you have children you will think it's alright to hurt them (maybe not think so). But you will anyway because your parents were training you to hurt your child (Meaning that you will abuse your children without thinking… you just will). If you fail to understand the last sentence, If you teach a child to speak the English language, will the speak French. So I conclude that parents are responsible for violent children. Thus causing mental harm.

I rather enjoyed that letter, quite well written and i agree with your points.

However, i still agree that it isn't wise to lower yourself to their level.
Again, however, it is a well written letter with valid facts.

You've done a good job.

That site is pure evil!! E3: The Evil Entertainment Expo??!!! WHAT!!! That was low. If you don't want your kids playing games with certain content, don't buy it. I know they mention the whole thing about "warez" but if they're talking about consoles, that's different. Plus, the system would have to be modded, which kids probably wouldn't know how to do (or be allowed to buy the chips!!). (I am leaving this alone for now, due to fear of being banned for mod discussion). By the way, I like the idea about the letters.

They even knocked LAN parties. LAN parties are awesome!!!!!! I don't even remember how many times I've remained awake all night just to play Halo over a network...

Hey man, when you're right, you don't need to lie! It is only in truth that we can show these people their folly. If we lie too, then we're just as bad as them. The ends don't justify the means.

I got this off one of the articles they had links to on that site.

The Interactive Digital Software Association (NIMF), a major trade association for the video game industry, says concerns that the violence in video games can result in violent teenagers is unfounded.

"The most objective and methodologically sound studies of video game play and aggressive behavior find no link between the two," the association says in a written report on its Web site.

That report quotes former Surgeon General David Satcher as saying in January 2001, "We clearly associate media violence to aggressive behavior. But the impact was very small compared to other things. Some may not be happy with that, but that's where the science is." It says he made that comment at a news conference to release a report on youth violence following the Columbine shootings in Colorado.

Kind of contradictory to the message they're trying to send, eh? Maybe they should focus on rooting out abusive parents and other things like that which involve real life situations, as opposed to singling out media violence.

People like this are far too close-minded to be convinced by anyone short of God that video games are not the sole cause of violence.

That's ironic too, since it seems as if Duke is trying to say there won't be any violent videogames in HIS house, and yet Duke is THE MAN when it comes to violent videogames and babes (or at least, he used to be). I never got to play it on the PC, but I remember playing it on the 64 at my relatives, man that was fun. Then my grandma hid it because she thought the screams of the pig cops was gross.

The PC version of Duke Nukem rocked. I think that being my first game ever kind of predestined me to like FPS games.

here is what i wrote to them:
To whom it may concern,
i would like to start off to say that i am a higly
educated 15 year old who loves playing video games.
and as far as blaming video games for violence i do
not agree with you. you should really not blame video
games for kids acting violent. think of it as this
way, Adolf Hitler wanted to find a "scapegoat" so he
used the Jewish society, when it wasn't the Jewish
Society's fault. you are doing the same thing with
video games. and its not the video games' fault that
children are so violent. its the parents' fault, if
they werent so ignorant to what their kids are doing,
parents should be more responsible, just as they are
when they are watching movies or watching tv. movies
are fun for the whole family, only if you pick the
right one. video games are the same way. on the plus
side video games are a great hobby, its a way to meet
people and as a surprise, to learn history. also video
games are a great way to relieve stress, and its
always better to be playing video games in secure
place(home) than to be doing drugs. this is what i
feel every time i hear that parents are upset about
the way their kids are acting and blame video games.
p.s. please write back. i look forward to hearing your responses

Yep. I hope they respond to mine. Probably a form letter. You know, something like,

Dear Mr. Simmons (not my real name, but it'll do),
We regret to inform you that we do not share your views, but rest assured that we are expressing the utmost concern to relay your message. Please accept our apologies for thinking that we are perfect, but we are. You suck. Videogames suck.

Unsincerely,
MAVAV
