Bungie, as much as i love the Legendary Edition and will get it, as long as i preordered it early enough, I too feel jipped. For a few minutes i actually felt that i may downgrade to the Collector's edition and use the other money to buy another game, but i decided against it. The fact that people are getting a hard copy for $10 more is quite frustrating. I mean, im paying $130 for the game and then another like $20 for the S+H, so thats almost enough for two more games, and we are getting the digital copy that, as people have said already, can easily be scratched or ruined by any other means. The Collector's Edition definitely seems to give much more for your money than Legendary Edition, and this is a good example of that. And, unlike those who are making there first posts complaining about this, I have been a regular here for over a year and i was an observer of the conversations before that and ive always been a huge bungie fan. The dissappointment about this is across the board, new people to old regulars. i hope you guys reconsider this.

I have a job. I can afford the Legendary edition. I'm not getting it because I couldn't explain to a friend why the game costs more than the used ps2 he just bought. I tried, believe me. "It's got a helmet man." Strained look. "You can watch Halo 1 and 2 as a movie." Pained expression. "It's got tons of exclusive artwork and behind the scenes info." He relented "You're not even into that stuff." And he was right.
If you don't appreciate the collectibility (sp?) of it all, save your money and give the helmet a chance to be bought by someone who will put it in a glass case next to his original master chief action figures and unopened Halo Clix board game. Besides, the the collecter's ed. is only $70, and did I mention I have a job?

Does anybody else like the hard cover Beast book thing but is obviously going to buy the legendary edition? I'm buying the legendary edition, but would love a coffee table version of the Beast book thing.

Edit: Sorry I realise now it is called the Bestiarum. And after reading through your other post that a huge amount of you agree with me! Why would I want the expanded Bestiarum on a disc I can ruin instead of a hardcover book I can bring anywhere in the world, including the toilet.

Sorry guys, after reading this I'm seriously reconsidering changing my pre-order from the Legendary Edition to the Collector's Edition.

Let me get this straight - the $70 version of the game comes in a metal case with a hardcover art book while the $130 version comes in a cardboard box with a plastic helmet, a few copied storyboards and an extra disc. What exactly cost the extra $60 there? I certainly doubt that the helmet was all that expensive to produce as the information from previous updates stated you had them made in China.

Take the helmet away and if anything, the Legendary Edition should actually cost less than the Collector's Edition - so are you guys saying that helmet is worth $60+? When the Legendary Edition was $100 maybe that added cost would make sense, but at $130 something is seriously wrong here. For $60 more, that Legendary Edition should include the art book AND the metal case.

Bottom line? The Legendary Edition isn't exactly sounding legendary.

One thing we don't know is the subset of the Legendary Beastiarum (I feel dirty typing that... did I spell it right?) contained in the Collector's edition.

Thanks for clearing up the difference between Collector and Legendary.

Now I'm glad I cancelled my Legendary pre-order after Microsoft jacked up the price.

I understand that it's likely not Bungie, but MS making those calls...
but there is no freaking way in heck that I'm paying $130 for that.

No way.

I've given you and your owners enough money already.

I'll see that bonus content on you tube a few month after the game is out.
I don't need the 10cent plastic helmet.

I want to be friends with this guy.

I hope the rest of you do too.

Legendary is a FREAKING RIP OFF. Paper and plastic that are made in China = $130.
Give me a break.
I know China. Trust me. I understand our economy, trust me.

If the Legendary version was made in the USA, that would TRULY be Legendary.

Sorry Bungie, love you guys, great developers, cools guys you are...
but you know... most of the community knows it... only kids who Moms are buying it and fan-boys wont admit it... the Legendary Edition is a RIP OFF.

So gross it almost makes me want to buy the original version.
You and Bill are lucky, very lucky I'm going to buy the Collector Edition.

I want to barf up the beer I'm drinking and I'm not even done drinking it.

Now we see what Frankie meant:

More on that later (some of the details are still being worked out), but it should be smiles and sunshine. Seriously.

I don't know why people are complaining about the cost of the Legendary Edition- if you don't want it, don't buy it? I dunno, seems like a good idea to me. I'm getting it for the sheer collectibility of it, really. Seriously- quit complaining and just don't buy it. Don't shout to the heavens that it's not worth it, or that it should have more- just DONT BUY IT. It's that easy. Yeesh.

Calling it a "ripoff" without seeing the content is a bit silly. Some people will pay lots of me just for collector's items, and that's just the way it goes. I got mine reserved today, and I'm pretty happy with it. Kind of a silly purchase to be sure, but I just want it to have it.

Good catch, I had completely forgotten that update. And it looks like he completely misses the point as well--notice how he uses the word content rather than something physical like product/item. Sigh.

Okay, somebody think this through with me, okay? If I go to Deviantart.com right now, I can download full copies of all the art there for free. But if I want a print, I'm paying potentially upwards of a hundred(s) dollars. Never mind that...according to Frankie, having the content is having the content, right? Who cares whether you get a hardcover art book or the art on a disk! We've still got the content to look at, so long as we use our television as an incredibly expensive picture frame, and burn that art into the screen REAL hard so we can just hang that sucker on the wall.

Look--Frankie, Bungie, Microsoft, Sunrise Identity, whoever is in charge or merchandising--for the love of pirates make that art book available on its own. If at any time I find out that the book is exclusive to the middling edition I'm canceling my Legendary pre-order and going with regular unleaded.

A truly wise man never plays leapfrog with a unicorn.

I thought there were three editions Standard, Limited and Legendary. I realize I'm splitting hairs here, but did they change the name of the Limited Edition to Collector's Edition?

Nice, meaty update. It's the most information you guys have been willing to divulge in a long, long time. Can't wait for Campaign and the permutations sound awesome. Wish I could find a store that actually sold Gamepro.

Still, I want one thing to be answered, will co-op be available on Live? I know it seems stupid because, you would think it only natural to akkiw co-op on-line but you guys didn't do it for H2, so I'm nervous.

Keep up the hard work, Bungie, and I can't wait till September!

Thank the "Monkey" for my content enrichment today. I can't wait for Gnop Halo style in the CE.
This line is my favorite part of the update: "Achievements and other, yet-to-be-revealed activities, options and features are going to make Campaign in Halo 3 have much more replay value than ever before." :D
After Sept 25th, Bungie will be remembered officially as LEGENDARY!!!

Allright. I almost get why you are appealing against the Legendary's price. But I'm still buying it. And I guess you should too.

Okay, there's a metal case in Collector's, but Legendary has a Spartan helmet. And it might be made in China, but that still looks cool, you know. Some pictures have shown how cool it is. It look's much better in nature than in those images. That might look a $1-rubbish, but it really isn't.

So, why I am buying the Legendary? Because there are lot of differences between Collector's and it. Legendaryd disc has all these things: the storyboard collection, hi-res Halo CE & 2 cinematics, the Cortana chronicles and Red vs. Blue exclusive + something more. And yes, I would like more that book version of the Bestiarum than the CD one, but that's OK for me.
Hey, what I do with the metal case, if I can get that all-mighty Spartan helmet?

But the important thing here is just the damn game!

EDIT.
Stan Marsh: "I thought there were three editions Standard, Limited and Legendary. I realize I'm splitting hairs here, but did they change the name of the Limited Edition to Collector's Edition?"

Maybe it's called Limited Collector's Edition? I don't know.

But I can't help but feel it would be awesome, if there was actually a collectors edition case inside the Legendary. With the FULL beastarium and everything.

Achievements and other, yet-to-be-revealed activities, options and features are going to make Campaign in Halo 3 have much more replay value than ever before. This is vital for folks who don’t have Live (yep, there’s a few out there) and a great boon to folks who just don’t like multiplayer.
Exactly a year ago, this would be the best news I'd ever heard. But then, I was able to have an Xbox Live account. Yay!

I'm also seriously considering cancelling my pre-order for legendary now, and getting collectors edition instead. If this is the complete package why not give us the artbook as well?? I mean collectors editions of Bioshock and Assasin's Creed come with figure, artbook and the bonus DVDs. Why does the "Legendary" edition for Halo, MS' flagship game have to be gimped compared to third party games- answer me that Bungie!

  • 06.09.2007 4:49 AM PDT

I really hope Bungie put a theatre mode in Halo 3 so that you can watch the cutscenes whenever you want (if you're sad enough, maybe before you've even finished the game?) or even put them in with the re-mastared cutscenes. Please Bungie, make it so!

Cool update.

A witty signature you say ! ? well at the moment i have nothing witty that springs to mind, so sory..................nope still nothing.......

Awesome update this week

So much cool stuff, lol. I cant wait to see what the bonus material is like, especially the re-mastered cinematics from halo and halo 2, I’ve got a felling you will have that seen put back in that was taken out in the second to last cut seen in halo 2, were the arbiter has a full on scrap with a brute on the platform leading to the scarab. Also the new customisation options for the Spartan armour sounds awesome, correct me if I’m wrong but is Frankie saying we can have different Spartan armour model types, because if that's correct that sounds sweet. Campaign to sounds excellent to and nice to here it's got enough replay value for those without live. The cortana chronicles and the sgt. Jonson ‘mockumentry’ features also sound cool, and should be a good laugh. Well I have pre ordered my legendary copy, so I will be looking forward to seeing all the hard work Bungie have poured into the game.

Cheers Frankie and keep up all your hard work bungie

Oh and the Forza 2 Master chief car was sweet to, well done to m0dus !
