First of all, the load times were HORRENDOUS. I can't imagine how bad it would be with the last hawtness.

So, I tried to login. I got to the login screen, typed everything in, clicked Submit, then it went back to whatever page I was viewing without me being logged in. Wierd.

Then I tried reading the update today....man.....never again.....

So anyways. So far, I would recommend not trying to use the DS browser, for b.net at least. I'm not sure if what the DS uses is the "downgraded display" or not, but either way, not fun.

Anyone else try it?

Yeah, it uses a version of the Opera browser.
And Opera is unsupported. Too bad for DS lovers. FireFox FTW.

There's nothing wrong with Opera, Bungie.net works perfectly fine with Opera on my Windows XP SP2 Computer. Though Firefox is better.

Are you sure its opera? Have you tried any other wireless devices?

Opera has always been touchy, particularly when it comes to Javascript. And as you may have noticed, there's a lot of AJAX goodness going on in this new hawtness, particularly around the stats section but there are little interactive "sprinkles" of it throughout.

Plus the whole site runs on .NET; a lot of data about your session is stored in an encrypted Viewstate field. Try viewing the source on a page and scroll down until you see an input field of type "hidden" and id of "__VIEWSTATE". Mine has a value that is over 35,000 characters in length when I viewed the source to the page this posting is on, for example. Yours will be similar. So just that one field contains 35k of data for that one page you're viewing at the time. Were you to paste it into the body of a forum reply you'd be over the limit of characters by 25,000. Now consider that the generated source for the forum page is over 1300 lines long and you start to see where those numbers add up to be rather significant.

Be kind to your wireless browsing experience. It works harder for you than you realize sometimes.

Mourne not your comrades who must dwell / too strong to strive -
Within each steel-bound coffin of a cell, / Buried alive;
But rather mourne the apathetic throng / The cowed, and the meek -
Who see the world’s great anguish and its wrong / And dare not speak.

It's probably the DS. This site is made to take advantage of a computer's cache to decrease load time in the long run. But that means that the hardware is responsible for taking in a lot of information. I doubt that the DS has much in the way of a cache.

Anyways, Opera works fine on B.net. I haven't tried the portable version, but I doubt it's the browser you're using.

I'm pretty sure the hardware that the website is designed for doesn't really matter. Because an Opera browser, is still an Opera browser, no matter what platform it's on... unless they had to make a variant of Opera specifically for the DS.

Point and case, I think the DS is just for browsing... that's it. I can't imagine how the DS would store cookies/temporary Internet files. I don't think the DS has any means of storage. So, idk. Like I said, I think it's just for browsing... not much else.

Frank O'Connor is a 12-year veteran of the videogame magazine industry and has therefore never worked an honest day in his life.

I thought Tom said opera was supported. I'm pretty sure it's got to do with the resizing and stuff in the code. And since alot of us will never use the DS as our main browser I doubt it will be supported.

I tried loading B.net on my PSP and had a pretty short load time. But it only loaded the blue square backround and nothing else. Not that useful.

He said it was going to be worked on after H3. Or some 30 line post to that effect.

Actually, tho, it requires that you slip a memory chip cart in the GBA slot to use it. I can't imagine how bad it would be without that.

This is just a test, i doubt it will work. Try for the url putting in http://www.bungie.net/default.aspx/a, that should load the front page without the background. Then work from there...

To do this for every url put /a after every aspx. Examples -

This wont work for groups the same though. For groups a different tequnique is needed, doing the same will result in going to the bungie homepage. Instead add http://www.bungie.net/fanclub/tomt/Group//GroupHome.aspx a second bracket where shown to go to a basic group homepage.
