* Step One: Close all background programs, that includes media player, the sidebar, IM, and any other non essitial program running.

* Step Two: Use the disk all the time, so it has two places to load information from.

* Step Three: Find the start up icon for Halo 2 and right click "Run As Administrator".

There you have it, and if this dosn't work then my findings are wrong even though this works for me.

Yep, but I was doing that long before, as I find the sidebar useless. So yes, it helps. Listen to him.

Entirely too true. The "wow" factor of the sidebar wore off within a couple days of using Vista RC2.

I haven't found very many "gadgets" worth using the extra resources for.
Clock? Got on one my start bar and wall.
Weather? Trillian & Firefox plugins.
Post-It notes? Office 2007 and OpenOffice.org.

The game isnt programed to seek the disk ingame so step two you can ignore.

So your "program" pretty much boils down to closing all programs that are hogging memory--and aren't essential to your computer--while running Halo 2 Vista. 1 Step Obvious Helpful Hint?

Let there be CHAOS!

I remember the day I got my new computer with Vista on it the day it came out. The first thing I did when I logged in, was close the sidebar, and I have never had it open since. Seriously, who uses that? Imo, it just clutters up the desktop.

Would'nt step 2 cause more 'lag"? Running off the hard disk is more efficient than running off a disc.

  • 06.10.2007 5:33 PM PDT

Slaying noobs since 2007.

You would be suprised, most games now days even if they don't get much info off the disk, networks will try to confirm the iso image and key, just to let you play. I know most EA games now use that kind of system.

Most Hated disc checker. STARFORCE O_O

heres another solution, click start, run, type in "msconfig" then go in the services tab, check "hide all microsoft programs" and uncheck everything, even video drivers and anti viruses (they will still run, just without control panels) now click the startup tab, and unselect everything there too, now goto start > programs > accessories > system tools > disk defragmenter, run that and defragment the drive that halo 2 is installed, when that is finished, restart and run halo 2, set resolution to 800x600, set refresh rate to your highest your monitor can support (this doesn't affect performance, but it would feel like it is running faster the higher it is) set graphics to lowest, turn off AA, then go into audio settings, set sound do headphones or 2 speakers (dunno which one uses less processing power) and finally run halo 2, but alt+tab out of it and ctrl+alt+delete to run the task manager, then find halo2.exe or whatever its called, right click it, and set priority to high or real time (don't know which one would be better) also, if you can close as many processes running on vista without actually crashing the system that would be great, because i know vista averages and runs like 50+ processes, and xp only uses about 20

Not really. I have nothing running on my computer but Vista's essential programs and I don't have any viruses and no one's hacked me. Same with XP.
