"In the Attempt to gain peace, There will always be War."

Com'on people, i've been reading threads after threads claiming it uses DX10. Get Over it. it does not use DX10.

It uses DX9c which is called DX9 eX in windows Vista. Windows Vista DX9 eX is used to run DX9 games under enumlated DX9.

Thats why if you play a Normal DX9 game on Vista, it has worse performance then XP right now. Video card companies are running around in circles trying to find a way to make DX9 eX work better then DX9. So please stop saying Halo 2 Vista is directX 10.

Somebody finally noticed...
BTW, thanx for that thread. Im glad somebody put a stop the the DX10 -blam!-.

Welcome to 6 months ago kid. Anyone who even took a cursory glance at the FAQ (Meaning the people who are actually smart...) at the top of the goddamn page knows that Halo 2 Vista doesn't use DX10. Better luck next time boyo.

Smart wanna-be Obi-wan....

This is a thread going out to all the n00bs saying Halo 2 will not working because someone has to make DX10 work on XP. If you haven't noticed. I know its in the FAQ, But I just wanna make it clear to everyone. and every n00b.

A few things.

1: I am smart, and I strive everyday to be smarter. Which is more than I can say for one such as you who failed to properly research the subject he's trying to talk about.
2: How does making this thread educate the noobs around here? When all the other threads and comments with the same general theme have resoundingly failed to accomplish that task?
3: If this DX9 eX doesn't work better than DX9, why did they use it on Vista? Sorry, but the reason you get poor performance with a DX9 card is because the video card companies themselves dropped the ball on driver support for Vista. And now they're trying to play catchup.

FYI: DirectX is a Microsoft product. Therefore the responsibility falls to Microsoft to make sure it works properly, NOT the video card companies.

Slaying noobs since 2007.

What? Are you ok, I haven't seen any thread that claimed it was DX10 in months.

  • 06.10.2007 9:11 PM PDT

What it is.

Btw, it's DX9L not DX9 eX, unless they changed it. And the real statement should be, Halo 2 Vista doesn't use DX10 features, because in reality Vista uses DX10, but emulates DX9 into DX9L. So you're using dx10 but using dx10 to use dx9(if that makes sense, lol). All in all the game uses DX9.

1: Wanna bet Wannabe

3: Wrong. I'm using a 8800GTX. That is DX10 card. not a DX9. Also Video card companies have been working drivers for vista since early beta 2 of windows vista. I know because I was in beta. How about You do your research for once in your life. Either then play catch up in grade school.

Where do you get DX9L? its DX9 eX, and can post a screenshot or you can just do run dxdiag in Vista, your choice.

Whoop-de-blam-ing-doo. I have 2 8800 GTX Ultras. Who the hell cares? Driver support sucks for almost every graphics card in Vista. STFU, if you aren't willing to take some constructive critism.

Uh huh, so why is it that when I log onto this forum and several others, I see people making comments about ATI and Nvidia not having decent drivers for Vista yet? You have an 8800GTX? That's nice, can we get back to talking DX9 cards now?

By the way, DX9 eX was formerly known as DX9L.

No sense having a hissy fit over my pointless comment in your pointless thread. Saying something like "wanna bet wannabe" seems rather juvenile don't you think?

The easiest way to kill all Covenant.

1. Put a sign on a door that says. Forerunner Artifacts here.
2. Watch them pile in.
3. Blow it to pieces.
4. Repeat!

Actually Halo 2 Vista does use DirectX 10, Games for Windows Live, but for graphics it uses the API of DirectX 9.

Wow, welcome to 6 months ago.

Seems like "emulated" DX9 is running H2V just fine!
If XP's DX9 runs better than Vista's DX9L, I'd hate to see what my FRAPS log would look like!

lol anyway yeh I haven't seen anyone say H2V doesn't use DX9 (emulated or pure) recently so if you could give us a link to what spurred this thread it would be helpful.

Halo 2 does not used DirectX 10, but in no way does that mean you cannot use DirectX 10 GPUs to play it. Just like how a DX9 card such as the GeForce 7800 can play a game that runs on DX8.
