So I popped in the Halo 2 disk for the first time in about 2 years today (no more beta) and I started seeing some strange artifacts/watermark effects appearing in the background while I'm playing. Some are outlines of Elites and Grunts, others are Brutes positioned on cliffs, also I'm seeing letters from the Covenant alphabet, and once I've even seen the huge forerunner ship plastered across my screen. All this right after I stopped playing the beta. It kinda gets annoying after a while, but once I save and quit it goes away; But once I cross a new checkpoint, I get another new and exciting artifact/watermark... OH JOY! I can't help but think maybe its a sneak peak at Halo 3... then again, maybe not. I can't even explain these artifacts/watermarks, but it could just be my Xbox360 acting up... then again, maybe, maybe not. Any thoughts? feel free to discuss.

I think that this is because you are playing on a 360, there have been other people that have had similar "sightings" all on a 360. It has something to do with the fact that it is an xbox game and was not made for the 360. There was also an issue with backwash being played on them too. I am sure someone can explain it better than me, please feel free to, i think it had something to do with the processor or something.

Kind of looks like Uprising right after you get inside the building where the Elite says: They have shed our brother's blood, and for that they shall die.

I just started re-playing Halo 2 today. Beat Halo: CE yesterday and decided to start on the campaign in Halo 2 this evening. I'm at Regret and I saw the exact same image. I did a search to see if this has ever been brought up. I've played Halo 2 on my 360 when I got it launch day (too poor to buy any games) and I don't remember seeing this. I was young and just wanted to shoot things so that may be why. I'm older, wiser and play games to try and grenade jump into places i shouldn't be. It's just such an odd coincidence that this happens after the Beta. I've never had any odd silhouetted images in any of my other XBox games when i've played them on my 360. I saw it and i got really freaked out and now i'm really happy to know my 360 isn't broken. I can't explain it, maybe someone with higher understanding of the 360 Hardware knows if it's truly something acting up or Bungie decided to give us a cool little Easter Egg.

I hopped on Halo 2 last night (first time since the beta) and experienced the same thing - cept in multiplayer. So did another of my clan members. Like visual remnants on the screen that just stay there until you leave the game and return. Weird that its only started since playing Halo 2 after the beta not before.

I'm more inclined to believe something software related is causing the problem. If it was a 360 hardware issue this should have been happening when I played Halo 2 BEFORE the beta as well... but it never had.

It's because of the backwards compatibility of the game. The emulator inside of the 360 isn't perfect so that will happen sometimes. It happens to me, though not as often as it seems to happen to you.

dude what your talking about is called burning the image into your screen. i dont know why it happens but if the image stays on your screen too long, say 30 mins, then turn off your console and turn it back on cause if the image stays on the screen too long, it will stay there permantly!!!! oh well there you go later...

When I used to play regularly (up until the Beta), I would occassionaly see the outline of another map while playing Coagulation, It was like if you cut out the view of Ascention from the Banshee spawn or Lockout from the flag plant point, and threw that outline ontop of my screen, thats what I saw. I tried washing the disc, but after awhile that didn't work, and just figured my disc was scratched.

It would happen on other maps too, such as Containment and Sanctuary, but it almost always happened on Coagulation. So I doubt there was a difference between downloaded maps and on disc maps.

i could see that. if it happened other than just while playing Halo 2. I'm watching TV right now and it's fine. I don't leave my 360 on like that if I'm not playing. I know all about image burning onto the screen. When i lived at home my mother would freak out about me playing videogames on the living room TV. That's why I bought my own TV. It doesn't just happen like that. Especially when I saw the exact same image as Hellf1re during that exact same level. That's an extraordinary coincidence.

On a side note. It happened a lot during the game so much so that it was extremely annoying to play anymore. I decided to start and beat Halo 2 today, which I did, but it just kept happening and wouldn't stay away even if I shut down my 360. Therefore I'm going with the emulation problem which sucks pretty bad and I wish could be fixed. If I feel like doing a Halo: CE run on 9/23 and a Halo 2 run on 9/24 I'm going to be extremely annoyed again. No worries sucks that it wasn't a special secret message from Bungie of sorts.

I know what burn in is. What I'm getting isn't burn in.
