Go buy an Xbox. Go buy a PS3. Go buy a car. Can't you decide for yourself?

Right....

In my opinion, you should get a 360 and associated games (GOW, FEAR, H3, Shadowrun, Crackdown, etc).

PC gaming is going through dull days now...

as useful as obiwans posts in this thread are, maybe I could say something.

Write down what you would use most, it is probably a PC, and write what games you would get for each, then buy that.

I say either sell your PS3 on ebay and put the money towards an Xbox 360 and Halo 3, or trade it in at a video game store and do the same. Then, go to a bank or a credit union and (depending on how long you want to wait) put your money in a 3 or 6 month CD with an AYP of nothing less than 3%. Then while the money is sitting there and growing, you will be setting a small amount aside from your bi-weekly paycheck. When the time comes to take your money out of the CD, it will have gained a small amount of interest that can be added to the money you've set aside from your pay and you will be able to buy yourself a computer as well.

Cheers.

do you people not think the PS3 is worth something? it has a blue-ray play normally a lot more expensive. and the graphics way better than 360

I don't understand...in any case...

you could get Halo 3 and a 360 for a minimum of...gosh, $360 dollars approximately before taxes. But that's a assuming you're getting a core system and the regular Halo 3. Or you could Ebay it and prolly save a few backs that why. Than save it a bit more after that, get a nice flat panel LCD with your new computer, and that way you can just plug your 360 into that whenever you wanna play and you can still play games at your comp :).

I heard something about an unofficial (maybe official) mouse and keyboard for the 360, is this true?

PS 3 graphics are actualy not that much better than 360. This is because they set up the hardware wrong and there are a lot of bottlenecks. Also developers are scared of the PS3 i.e. not many good games coming out for it. Release Game: Resistance Fall of man and Killzone 2 , both were bad. I mean tommy guns against lasers and plazma. GET OUT OF HERE!!! anyhow blu ray is it's only plus but you can just buy one for your pc once it actualy starts being used. Also by that time the prices on those drives have probably dropped.

Slaying noobs since 2007.

The PS3 makes a good grill/paper weight though........

Get both. $2000 will cover a good gaming computer and a new 360.

X360 Premium Set: $399.99, Halo 2 Xbox: $29.99.
*Note to Flapjack: Remember that backwards compatibility on X360 requires the HDD so the core system wouldn't work.
Nintendo Wii: $249.99
Total: $679.97

Remainder: $1320.03

Take another 300-500 and buy other various games for the Wii and the 360.
This leaves you with 820-1020 you can either hold on or do something else with.

Just my opinion.

I believe the OP said he was a serious PC gamer, and yet everyone is suggesting to him different consoles.

To the OP; don't bother with a console. Just stick to the PC. Though ask around some more about tips for buying one as well, as you don't want to walk into CompUSA and ask, "Where are your computers?" Know what you're going to buy before going into the store and you know that if you have to ask for the computer and they have to go out back in storage to retrieve it that you're making one heck of a deal.

Also, just to give you an idea, it shouldn't cost you more than $1,300 to buy a top-of-the-line computer--if you know what you are doing. Buy a few games and then put the rest of it in a savings account. Then get a job.

That's because, as was stated before, PC gaming has been going through a very dull time. For a very long time.

Other than Half Life 2, Doom 3 and Battlefield, look at the sheer number of games that come out for consoles first and then are half-ass ported to PC. About the only games I have seen get developed predominantly for PC first in recent times have been MMORPGs. I know this is liable to erupt into a flame war, but when I go into any shop selling computer games, I see "new" PC titles that have been around on consoles. Sometimes they're ported around the same time, sometimes ports take months or, as in H2V's case, years.

This has been a complaint of mine for years. PC gaming has taken a backseat to consoles and we end up with crappy ports of popular console games. Every now and then we get a Half-Life 2, Doom 3 or Starcraft 2, but it's rare. Instead, PC gamers get barraged with "new" crap like LOTRO, DDO, WOW, and a billion other MMOs that are nowhere to be found on consoles (thankfully).

FEAR was a PC game.

also, OP said he was an avid PC gamer. don't get the console, you'll just be wasting space. There will be periods where you won't use your console for anything but dust gathering (if you're getting a dust ranch started, then get a console). If you use the 2000 bucks to get new PC parts, then you'd have a souped up work and gaming machine. So, i say buy parts for your PC, not a pre-built one, and don't get a 360.

Yeah, seriously. What are all these "bugs" people are always claiming Vista has anyways? I've yet to experience a bug.
