Subject: Should I...?

What it is.

^Off-topic: Both are still in update stage. Vista has definitely gotten better since its release. Halo 2 Vista has only been released for a couple of weeks, there still needs core patches to be made for the game to be up and good.

On-topic: Depending if you have a car or not, I'd say buy the 360 and random stuff/games to = about $600. then use the $1,400 to build yourself a nice long-lasting computer, assuming you said you are a major pc gamer(if your comp is already awesome, i.e. 8800ultra, uber cpu, 16gb of RAM lol, then nvm).

Yeah, seriously. What are all these "bugs" people are always claiming Vista has anyways? I've yet to experience a bug.

In the beginning, I had a -blam!- load of problems with it. But now, the only real problem I have with vista is not being able to install a new sound card driver for my Sound Blaster Audigy card- therefore I can't use voice chat, but I can hear everything just fine. And I know it's not a problem with my microphone because I bought two of them to make sure my mic wasn't busted. Also, I could use voice chat just fine when I had Windows XP. Now I cannot use my microphone with my soundcard at all.

I believe the OP said he was a serious PC gamer, and yet everyone is suggesting to him different consoles.

That's because, as was stated before, PC gaming has been going through a very dull time. For a very long time.

Other than Half Life 2, Doom 3 and Battlefield, look at the sheer number of games that come out for consoles first and then are half-ass ported to PC. About the only games I have seen get developed predominantly for PC first in recent times have been MMORPGs. I know this is liable to erupt into a flame war, but when I go into any shop selling computer games, I see "new" PC titles that have been around on consoles. Sometimes they're ported around the same time, sometimes ports take months or, as in H2V's case, years.

This has been a complaint of mine for years. PC gaming has taken a backseat to consoles and we end up with crappy ports of popular console games. Every now and then we get a Half-Life 2, Doom 3 or Starcraft 2, but it's rare. Instead, PC gamers get barraged with "new" crap like LOTRO, DDO, WOW, and a billion other MMOs that are nowhere to be found on consoles (thankfully).

Oblivion, FEAR, Battlefield 2, Source mods, HellGate: London, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, and Bioshock? That all sounds like a slow time for PC games for you?

Compatability is the issue with Vista, at least with the 360 you dont get a:
"Xbox360 cannot find drivers for the following:
* Xbox 360 Wireless gaming controller.
* Xbox 360 Hard Drive.
* Xbox 360 DVD Drive.
* Xbox 360.
We apologise for any inconvenience."
And yes, i own vista, whatever drivers you do get work like -blam!-.

Obvlision and FEAR have morphed into console games. Source is -blam!-. Hellgate London is rumored to have a worse online servrice than LIVE is to some. Quake Wars still has a lot to prove after Quake 4's disappointment. Bioshock is great but will be better on the 360. Trust me, Microsoft is pushing for this.

K, if you wish to support consoles so blatantly, then:

<----------------- The Halo 2 Forum or The Halo 3 Forum <----------------------- That way. This forum is for those that support gaming on computers. Peddle your fanboyism on a forum that supports it.

Also, FEAR and Oblivion morphed into console games as much as Halo 2 morphed into a PC game. They were simply ports to have companies make more money. FEAR will obviously run better on a PC that can support it well, while FEAR for the Xbox and PS3 are plagued by framerate drops and visual lag. FEAR was also not meant to be played with the gamepad, seeing as how many different buttons it uses to control some of the most vital parts of the game, like leaning around corners and slomo. The Source Engine is not -blam!-, because it can constantly be improved to fit machines that can be upgraded. Consoles are stuck as one, unchangeable unit until a company decides to release a new one. Also, how can one argue with the results of professionals using the source engine to its limits, i.e. the Half-Life 2 series. You also can't say that Bioshock will be better on the 360 until you've played it. There seems to be no difference in the two at this point in its development.

Lol, somehow it's Vista's fault that companies don't make Vista drivers for their hardware and/or updates for their software.

get an xbox 360 with a keyboard and mouse if you're the PC-gamer type.
Last time I heard, the XCM XFPS 360 keyboard and mouse adapter is a piece of crap.

No sir, Windows Vista is a huge success. H2V is the failure. Keep the great and the horrid seperate please.
Thank you.

True, it really doesn't work as fluidly as for the pc. And some games just plain out ignore that it's there.

YEAH
Plus think about how much beta testing and changing you had with Vista. RC1, RC2. Halo 2? Beta which wasn't even open to everyone. You had to signup and hope you were lucky.

Obvlision and FEAR have morphed into console games.

That means zilch. You can't mod the hell out of Oblivion on the console and you can't have new maps in FEAR for the console.

Source is -blam!-.
LMAO. Wow, just, wow. Please exit to the left.

Hellgate London is rumored to have a worse online servrice than LIVE is to some.
Rumors? From where? Some backwater gaming website with biased agendas?

Quake Wars still has a lot to prove after Quake 4's disappointment.
Yes, and I'm sure that brings it down a notch in the scene of people going out to buy it.

Bioshock is great but will be better on the 360. Trust me, Microsoft is pushing for this.
I'm sure you'll be able to mod the hell out of Bioshock on your 360, right?

As others have said, if you're pushing for consoles, then go hang out on a console board.
