So, if someone gets a warning, are they stuck with it for eternity? Is it a big deal, does it make them some kind of an outcast?

A warning is no big deal. Nearly every member gets a warning at some point or another, but no one will think badly about you if you get one. People can't tell if you get a warning, it's not some kind of public announcement.

I didn't know we got warnings? Anyways, I'm pretty sure that you wouldn't be an outcast. Everybody messes up now and then. You'll still be a regular member.. although I'm not positive about any of this seeing as I've never heard of it :p

What a coincidence, I just got a warning for replying to this thread. I guess that teaches me my lesson.

A warning is just a moderator's way of being too much of a wuss or couch potato to PM you himself.

When they warn you via the Soul, Achronos's fancy user-rating/trust-rating thing takes it into account. If the ninja were to just PM you, it wouldn't have any effect so if it were just a little warning it would probably be a PM, but if it were a major DON'T DO THIS AGAIN warning, it would be via the Soul.

Or at least that's how I think it works/should work.

I once got a warning for posting in a thread that racism is against the forum rules, great, ain't it?

Was it from the Soul? Did your post itself contain any racism in it?

I somehow ended up with a warning from Pezza, for repeated trolling.

Is this blow to my user trust rating permanent, or will I be able to redeem myself?

Maybe, but everyone was given a clean slate because the user records only date back until the beginning of the New Hawtness 2.0 (from what I heard). So, I feel like a dirty SOB right now with this pm from the Soul sitting in my inbox.

You people have just sent my sides into orbit. A bunch of MLG try hards sucking the dick of some supposed pro half the thread hasn't even heard of. Classic.

I wouldn't worry about having a warning. It is mainly there to let other Moderators know what you have been warned for in the past. That way we can see if a harsher punishment is needed.

In fact I just sent one to myself.

No, warnings are for people who can't be controversial or demeaning enough to get blacklisted.

I haven't got a warning yet.
I'm pretty sure I would have if it weren't for timezones.
As it is, only TPG and Pezza can catch me.

I don't know... The only time i've recieved a warning was when posting in a stupid thread, indicating that it was against the rules to feed the trolls (something actively encouraged in the past). I eventually recieved a warning, and the justification i got when i enquired about it was "we warned everyone in that thread." I've since posted in much, much stupider threads, walked much closer to the rules and been much more vocal in public, and yet, nothing. I wonder if there is a risk that warnings will just become commonplace blanket punishments when the moderators just cant be arsed to check through content of threads, or just plain can't be arsed.

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

A warning is just that, a warning. It lets you know that you have violated, or have come close to violating the rules/CoC. Aside from that primary function, it goes on your records, so that the moderators can see if a user has had a prior warning for that offense, and mete out punishment accordingly.

No one but the moderators and superusers can see your records, so I don't think it could affect your social standings. The only way someone could know if you ever had a warning would be if you told them.

I got a warning from Ghandi 2 about a post that didn't even exist

Also, is there a magic number of warnings that you get before you are banned?
