Hi there. Coming off the beta I knew it'd soon hit me as to just how many weapon fixes have taken place during the development of the third game, but the high percentage of unsuitable maps and gametypes I feel populate the Team Slayer and Big Team Battle playlists is quickly combining with the bugs in a way that I just can't find the game enjoyable. Yeah the game's nearly three years old but when Halo 2 offers it's best it can still outshine the rest.
And yet...Colossus...Team Slayer...sorry, but you shouldn't need a veto button to tell you that this should have been taken off of the list two years ago! I've played a load of games lately (on my new 'tag, in case you check), and yet keep getting the same old rubbish...have the chances of getting maps like Turf, Zanzibar, Lockout, Relic, et all really gone down so much that i'm now stuck in an endless cycle of Elongation, Tombstone, Beaver Creek, and Colossus?!
Then there's BTB. Before the beta this made the perfect stable mate for Team Slayer; you could see Team Slayer as pure competition with it's ranked team play, and BTB as the light hearted alternative what with it's unranked team games filling the game to the brim with players across some suitabley huge maps that made for a nice alternative once in a while. But now what...two playlists get merged and so instead of constant Gulch Wars across the beautiful Containment and Coagulation maps i'm faced with option of playing a million and one varying game types over some needlessly included maps (yay for massively multiplayer games on Warlock [/sarcasm], which makes for the fun of trying to get your barings around the game type before realising that as it's unranked half the team doesn't care, and so goes around tea-baggin' their team mates.
Sorry for the rant, but I have to get it out of my system. The ease of jumping in a game coupled with the "high score" style ranking system are what I feel makes Halo 2 such an online draw, though I feel it's down to good playlists that truely make it compelling.
I'm very much interested to hear everyone else's opinions, and would hope that the poor playlist ninja's of Bungie would be to. Am I insane, or are you bored of the changes to!?
Ho hum, off to play Perfect Dark...or buy Shadowrun, I guess!!!
