We don't need it. We don't even need LIVE. The only thing that H2V needs is a normal server browser.

Didn't you guys play halo 2 xbox? that's what made it worth-while. I can't just shoot pidgeons that wear MJOLNR armor all day and be happy with it. The game MUST be a challenge for me. And it isn't like this. This is the fix for Halo 2 Vista that Halo 2 Xbox had.

Yes, I played it, and frankly I wasn't impressed, ok, I play some BTB with a jackass cursing everyone out for nothing and when someone asks them politely stop, starts cursing at them. Random placing of players=fail.

Matchmaking, the way it was done on H2X and H3B, is, in my opinion, a failed idea.

The concept was simple: Let's assign matchmaking ranks to separate skilled from unskilled players to give people a challenge. The problem with this concept was equally as simple: The matchmaking process didn't necessarily reflect skill. It reflected time spent more than skill and in team matches even the last place person on a winning team got bumped up in matchmaking level. Go look at all the flame threads about SmokedYeti on the H3B forums for proof of my statements. Ignoring the fact that he's been able to play in the internal beta as well as the public beta, do you honestly believe he's more skilled than other participants of the H3B or do you believe that he had more time to spend than everyone else?

Matchmaking "ranks" only lead to BS e-peen stroking and envy.
People who think they can somehow make a more valid claim because they have a "level 50".

I'm rather enjoying H2V much more than H2X simply because I don't have to deal with the stupid ranks.

bring it back, it wasnt a flop in h2x, why take out such a good feature.

I always enjoyed playing double team with a mate, or teamslayer. Taking out good features just make the game worse.

That's not going to stop stupid teammates from driving your warthog into a grenade or prevent the enemy from teabagging you.

This thread ended at the second post, anyway.

it makes the game more challenging (at least in multiplayer), but in my opinion no one should have a name or any other kind of icon to dictate their level in the game. Instead it should just remain invisible. Matchmaking should seriously undergo some revision... Maybe give the player a notice that they've leveled up, or keep track of how many kills they've made since they started playing online, but I want it to be more than just some over-simplified game server, but never let them directly see what their level is. Base it on the individual's performance. Informing the player of their level may only influence them to cheat, like how some asshats would boost for their level 50's in H2X when they didn't deserve them.

I just don't want an over-simplified gaming server, like counterstrike source. The way things work now in H2vista is kind of ridiculous. For pete's sake I get all of that from counterstrike:source and you can add 3rd party mods to the game. That is the main difference between H2vista and Counterstrike source now.

H2X kind of set the bar for online gaming in first-person-shooters, except we haven't found any other games with similar matchmaking systems.
