Has anyone noticed that there is an unusually large amount of crap on these forums?
You make a valid point--just read the titles of the posts on the first page of any forum. The spelling on just about ANY post is just horrendous, let alone the content. Consider the fact that a good chunk of posters have a limited amount of obligations in terms of responsibility and a lot of free time and you can see how the problem arises.
However, I have to offer a defense as well. To counter my own assertion, many of the responsibility-free individuals may not even be old enough to be expected to have said duties. In other words, not everyone is a 30-something overweight individual living with or off of his parents.
Second, and probably most importantly, Halo 2 will probably be a defining game in terms of, well... in terms of anything. It's understandable to me, then, that people get excited and can't control themselves. A good solution would be to ask everyone to read every post 3 times--at the least--before he decides to post it, both for reasons of grammatical/spelling atrocities and for inanity of content. No, it won't solve world hunger, but it might clean up the deluge of garbage that spawned the idea of creating more forum categories in the first place.
Basically, it's inevitable that people are going to say stuff you think is dumb. Some will never get the message and will continue to make post after post with 0 or 1 replies--the 1 reply of course being them responding to their own post. People drive dumb, do dumb stuff in the grocery store, even say the dumbest things you can imagine--do your best to take it in stride, or just avoid it altogether. Frankly, the only realistic way to avoid dumb things on the forum is to not click on the forum.
